  • verry good video, I had Necrotizing Fasciitis last year November, but I am still recovering from it and I hope to get at work in October or November. I got at the hospital at 12.30 and I got surgery at 13.00 hr. I am happy that I survived!!

  • @appievanheerlen great story

    thanks

  • Possible causative pathogens: Streptococcus Pyogenes Group A Streptococcus/Gram + (primary cause) Exotoxin-Cytokines target skin bacteria

Transmission of pathogen-A common entry point for the bacteria is through a wound such as a burn, cut, scape, or insect bite

Treatment-Powerful, broad-spectrum antibiotics, skin grafts may be needed, hyperbaric oxygen therapy-this involves placing the patient in a chamber that delivers 100% oxygen at high pressure-if bacteria determined to be oxygen-avoiding.

  • I lost my father to this disease when i was 10 years old....

He got it while on a airplane flight for his work they had to make a emergency landing, im guessing he got it from the airport somehow and it was under diagnosed for i think more than 24 hours.

  • @InfestedPunxx sorry to hear that

  • I lost a very close family member to this. 5 days after diagnosis.

  • @girlinterrupted4life SORRY TO HEAR THAT

  • For the skin grafts, do you use autograft or allograft?

  • @tsbialecki autograft

  • Very educational video!!

  • @kamelg1 great

  • Great illustrations!

  • @ajwassef THANKS

  • Fascinating video!

Does the small cut in the limb have to be a deep laceration, to start necrotizing fascilitis, or can it start from a small scrap?

  • @kaleidoscopekay

It can start without a wound

  • Great case examples and easy to understand.

  • @TCMAUMEE great

  • very useful video!

Give us the information of necrotizing fasciitis. Early diagnosis and treatment could save the limb and the life.

    I like the video.

  • @chinafox1 thanks

  • Thorough, yet to the point. Excellent video!

When doing the debridement, is there a special type of antibiotic wash that is used?

  • @mwidmer84 debridment is important

    antibiotics according to the culture

    treatment should be early

  • @nabilebraheim - Speaking of anti-biotics, would you treat empirically while waiting for the CXs, or would you just treat with a broad spectrum ABX while awaiting CX results?

  • @AnimalGuardian71 yes i agree with you ..

    treat with vanco,clinda and penicillin

then give specific antibiotics when you obtain the result of the culture and sensitivity

  • @nabilebraheim - Makes sense. I just wasn't too sure what the protocol is for something like that. I was a trauma RN for 15 yrs, before changing careers, but never really had to delve into the longterm care aspect of medicine. Great video by the way :)

  • @AnimalGuardian71 thanks,spread the word

  • Great video
