This spring was an attack on us With only three-quarters of the normal amount of sunshine, it was Chicago's cloudiest spring ever. In addition, the city officially logged only nine days with maximum temperatures in the 70s, close to the least number ever -- seven days in 1996. In an average spring Chicago has 15 days in the 70s. To make matters worse, rain fell on four of this spring's nine "pleasant-temperature" days.
Global cooling at our lung's and life's exspense!!!
Okay, ALL OF YOU KNOW THAT OBAMA IS NOT RACIST, If he was, why would he care about this country so much? And WHY WOULD His dearly beloved mother be white, which he loves, and I know he's not racist against other people, which people call him, is it because he's black? I mean if he was white people wouldn't actually say that, D:<!!!
I don't care if you have ur own opinion, but he is not racist, and that cold hard truth! McCains good.
@Snowsp0ok Yes they would dumbass there will always be racist people its just common sense that Black people do not respect whites, Whites dont respect most blacks, and mexicans dont respect whites. And if he did care for this country he wouldnt be putting us another trillion dollars in debt!
I'm aware that people are still going to be racist. It's common sense to everyone. I'm also aware that people aren't going to respect other people. It's still obvious he isn't racist. That was a very odd and stupid reply to me, I'm not a dumbass. Think clearly, I know about racist people and how they can be, and I know how the race system of hatred goes. There's always going to be racist people, "dumbass." You can't change the world... just how it is. ^^
@Snowsp0ok Oh and by the way, klayman2. I know that whites are going to still be hated by people, it's kind of obvious. It wasn't a huge deal about other white presidents until the first black president came.
Obama doesnt care who's name is on the bracelet. He couldnt even remember, but yet "he wears it every day" he had to look at it to figure out who was on it. He's not American.
1) Part of Obamas decency of character is, despite the rumours of Risk that were flying around at the time, he STILL chose Biden for VP over Hillary; the very fact that he did NOT pick Hillary simply in order to gain MORE votes only reaffirms that this man is thoughtful & has substance.
He went ahead in picking who he FEELS is the best choice to look after America, if needed. THAT is brave & THAT is showing integrity & staying true to what YOU believe is right for all.
2) McCain, in contrast, sussed the situation at the time (vexed Hillary fans) & used this to try & advance his OWN chances -- by choosing Palin, which simply displayed a *ME first, COUNTRY later deviousness.
Compare that to Obamas thinking, above.
Yea, desperate for PERSONAL gain, NOT Americas gain!
I saw right through that one.
AND she is learning on-the-job? Joke!
However, most of their supporters will choose to stay in denial about that.
The real racist is Obama. He also doesn't like the military, he's always voted against us (ex: voting against more body armor for us). Obama is a joke, he's putting on a fake image and it's frightening that so many people are caught hook line and sinker with his propaganda. Ignore what he says because: 1) What he says varies depending on what crowd he's addressing 2) His actions speak louder than words, look at his voting record. I love the Bill of Rights and this Country too much. McCain 08
John McCain has previously voted against funding for troops also.
What about the overseas troops favouring Obama over McCain?
Guess you forgot that part huh? You're obviously not very biased are you?
How can you call Obama a joke and endorse McCain when he chooses someone like Sarah Palin as a VP candidate who is being REALLY regarded the world over as a joke?
It's kinda hypocritical of you to be talking about spreading propaganda with that biased post you just made.
McCain voted against it because the bill was ear-marked as hell, one of which was a pull out timeline, which he did not want to endorse. Obviously not every military man/woman wants McCain, but it's safe to say most of us do. Palin is experienced and many woman like her because she's gone far without comprimising her morals (Hillary) and she's a mother. Yes I am biased, in case you don't understand how the world works, everyone and everything is biased, congratulations you figured something out.
Obama voted against funding because it DIDN'T include a pull out timeline, which he did not want to endorse.
Yet somehow it is only Obama who is the bad guy.
As for MOST of you wanting McCain. More than 50% of the military donation is in favour of Obama. I only say over 50 cause I don't know the actual figure but I know it's a lot more than 50%. That's not most of you.
As for Palin not compromising her morals.
She's recently been found guilty of violating public trust in her own state.
Then there's the fact that she lied about not pressuring Monegan into firing Wooten, when there were several phone calls logged to Mr Monegan from the Palins.
Then again, since you're so openly biased, none of this is compromising her morals is it?
McKlan voted against the SAME BILL. For his homewrecking drug addled thief sugar-mommy wife to be whining about Obama's vote is pathetic. McKlan voted against the SAME BILL.
A mother cannot make decisions for her child forever. He chose to go. Many choose to go back/re-enlist. But if Obama wants to honor the mothers request, he would not cut funding for the military. He would increase it so that our soldiers, our loved ones, had the resources they need to protect themselves.
The bottom line is that our soldiers choose to enlist and choose to go to Iraq. I have two brothers in the Marines, one of which went to Iraq.
And I would never dream of DISRESPECTING him, the others who put their lives on the line, or who GAVE their lives, by saying that this war should've never happened and we should pull out before our goal is reached. Should they have died for nothing? or should we continue until THEIR goal is reached?
I too have loved ones in the military (my boyfriend and two other friends are in the Marines, two in the Army, and three in the Navy). Although I would love to the war be over so that our soldiers are safe and can come home, I agree that the goal needs to be reached first.
I don't think the deceased soldiers would wan't more people to keep fighting and dying in a war that seems to have no direction or goal to justify their own deaths. I don't think they're selfish like that. Many soldiers don't want to be in Iraq and don't see where the war is going, they're just there because someone told them to be there.
Would you disrespect those soldiers by saying they should fight and possibly die in a war only to justify others who did the same?
Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) made an overnight change in the homeowner bailout he proposed at Tuesdays presidential debate, making it more generous to financial institutions and more costly for taxpayers.
Clearly, one of the candidates actually cares about our servicemen and women and their familes and the other doesn't. You can tell by the way they treated and spoke about them PRIOR to the campaign.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
i'm voting mccain because I don't want a marxist racist to be my president. and YES, obama IS a racist, he calls his grandmother a typical WHITE person because she's a racist.
Go ahead and vote obama and then we can just change our country's name to "the soviet union #2"
Does anyone really think Obama cares at all about veterans or soldiers? No way!
Bottom line-Obama belonged to a racist church for 20 years. Obama's mentor and pastor of 20 Years-Jeremiah Wright, is an anti-American bigot. If was not running for the presidency, he would still be in that church.
Palin attends church where the preacher is a self confessed witch hunter. He has confessed to the approval of killing witches in the name of God, and "witches" HAVE died as a result of beliefs like this.
Sarah KNOWS this and still attends and is in good companionship still. There is footage of her being blessed by the preacher as he mentions keeping her safe from witches.
Obama has cut himself away from Jeremiah Wright and ended their friendship.
The dead soldier's family specifically instructed Obama not to wear the bracelet, but he continues to exploit this soldier's death, ignoring the family's wishes & not only wearing the bracelet but bragging about it in a brutally crass televised display. How disgusting can this guy get!
No, in february her divorced for many years husband who is now stationed in cuba said that she told him not to wear it.
She make a statement on sunday saying that she was ecstatic of the mention of the bracelet and that her husband did not correctly represent her views on the radio station.
Who will you believe, a guy saying what he thought the mother said, or the mother herself?
THAT MEANS HE IS USING IT FOR HIS OWN POLITICAL GAIN.
HOW CAN YOU NOT SEE THIS?
Obama actually didn't one up McCain AT ALL. In fact he explained that since McCains bracelet and a mother with a wish does not represent ALL grieving mothers wishes, such as Mrs Jopek.
That actually means that Obama is in the SAME BOAT as McCain so does that mean that Obamas views are better? NO!
That's the point he was trying to put across, but you guys are so EASILY blinded by biased footage you cant see shit!
Look it up. Reports show that her HUSBAND who she has been divorced from for YEARS and is now in CUBA, had in her words "wrongly portrayed her views on the matter" and was "ecstatic" that Obama mentioned his bracelet and was "honoured"
Here is a clip showing the WHOLE truth.
watch?v=gtsPn5KMjr4
So now we got that out of the way what next?
Obama saying "McCain is right too many times?"
Can we MAYBE get back to discussing the issues now??
Get over yourselves! When you can stand in the shoes of the leaders, then criticize and condemn! How perky would you be given the pressure Obama is under.
DO YOU NOT WONDER WHY THE SECOND PART OF OBAMAS STATEMENT WAS EDITED OUT WHERE HE EXPLAINS TO MCCAIN THAT SAYING YOU HAVE A BRACELET AND A WISH FROM A MOTHER DOES NOT REPRESENT THE REST OF THE GRIEVING MOTHERS ALL AROUND THE WORLD?
If anything it was McCain pulling the gag but you're all so damn fucking blind too see it.
You guys DESERVE another 4 years of Bush if you can't even look at a blatantly biased and edited video like this and come up with your OWN conclusion.
ilovesaskia, The dead soldier's family specifically instructed Obma not to wear their son's bracelet but he continues to exploit this family & their soldier son's death, completely ignoring the family's wishes & not only wearing the bracelet but bragging about it in a brutally crass televised display. How disgusting can this guy get!
I remember when Obama said that there were 57 states. His supporters said he was tired. You can't blame him. They use the same excuse here too. Pathetic. If he is too tired to run for president, he should not be president.
Tracy Jopek of Merrill told The Associated Press on Sunday she was honored that he remembered Sgt. Ryan David Jopek, who was killed in 2006 by a roadside bomb.
She acknowledges e-mailing the campaign in February asking that Obama not mention her son in speeches or debates. He's had the bracelet for more than seven months and still can't remember this man's name? "DAMN" Bad move Obama, I guess you really shouldn't speak without the teleprompter!!!
If there would be Any Electoral corruption in this US Election and if John.McCain wins by hook or Crook, Then USA is definitely no more a country that will be 'looked-up-at' by the rest of the world.
It will be
the Global symbol of Corruption and Evil
and definitely !"""NOT"""! a symbol of Democracy.
People have no value if not any sense.
The 700 Billion for bailout, how else do you think they Plan to use it?
And palin belonged to some wacked out religious sect in wasilla that has a self proclaimed witch hunter as a leader. AND she was the mayor of the meth capital of Alaska....her hometown. And her husband works for BP. If you need a reminder of why this is important, see Richard Cheney.
Jeremiah Wright is quiet as a church mouse these days. Wonder what Obama camp promised him or did behind the scenes to shut him up. I say FREE REV WRIGHT!
Yeah like a presidential candidate doesn't have a million things going through his mind at a debate. This simply shows one thing: Obama knows how to prepare. This proves nothing.
As a public speaker I've learned that it's better to read than to misquote. He was just being careful. Imagine how it would be presented by the opposition in post debate commentary if he got the name wrong.
Still, how long did he have to prepare for this debate? I've only heard this guy's name like ten times today and I'll never forget it -- Ryan David Jopek. There, I even spelled it correctly. And the point isn't that he had to read the name, but that he ignored the mother's initial request that he not mention her son in public anymore.
You can find multiple news sources in which Tracy Jopek defends his use of the bracelet in the debate. Google "soldier's mother obama." The news/internet, I'm afraid, can support any "argument," liberal or conservative. There will always be sources of information that speak to and validate one's personal views and agendas. The closest thing to unbiased are the candidates' websites, and even then, they are both honeymooning us, fighting to win the vote.
Well I basically agree. I think all in all this is not a big deal for Obama. She defended him, despite her earlier request that he not use the bracelet in public. But, since she now says she's 'ecstatic,' I think this is a non-issue that will not even get 15 seconds from the MSM.
he is not dangerous. foolish we are the world and as long as we all hold hands and talk is the truely dangerous thinking. you cant negotiate with madmen. they see it as weakness. it emboldens them b/c they know we will not respond to their actions. i thought the world would have learned from hilter. i rather a bucch of small wars than wait for a giant one
yeah, reagan negotiating with gorbachev, Nixon with china was so absurd.. really.. before you talk out your ass, learn some history. Wars and isolationism virtually never achieve a goddamned thing.. Talk about a propaganda opportunity. What do you think rallies Iranians to join their army? Seeing us as a monsterous potential invader, or seeing that we're willing to talk and attempt peaceful resolution to issues?
the point was that obama was eager to allow all the sacrifices endured by the coalition and the Iraqi people to have been in vain. whatever may be said about ousting the baathist regime, there is always a higher price to be paid for handing victory to extremists. at minimum, obama lacks resolve to stand against the enemies of freedom.
obama and his supporters could eagerly betray our allies, if not actively support those who seek the destruction of western civilization.
Obama wants to go after the attackers housed in Afghanistan and Pakistan, where the real fight is. Not Iraq, even after its been proven that Saddam's regime had no ties to AQ
cuz he beat mccain at his own game? lol. i think mccain is low for having brought it up as if it was rehearsed; obama probably wouldnt have brought that up without mccain trying to play politics with a soldiers death.
So what, if he can't remember a single name, at least he remembers how many houses he owns. And this is comming from me, a racist sob, who'd still vote for the Hussein guy, even if he didn't remember his own name, caus 8 years of homeland terror, oppression of humanrights and destroying the economy is enough for me.
its important b/c he fakes caring every day. libs always say they care but never do anything to help or little things like know the name of the man you are citing as a reason for your position
Joe Biden is a buffoon. He had to drop out of the 1988 presidential race because he plagarized from then Labor leader Neil Kinnock. He insulted Indians and blacks, told a cripple to stand, and said that FDR was president in 1929 and addressed the US regarding the depression on tv-FDR was not elected until 1932 and the tv was not unveiled until 1939. The hairplugs fianlly damaged his brain.
The Wall street elite count on morons like these to fight over bullshit bracelets while they loot the taxpayers for all they're worth. Anybody who believes there is any real difference between Republicans and Democrats is deluded. Lobbyists make sure there isn't. All the same dummys, open your eyes. The 2 party system is broken and subverted.
Poor poor comment. Obama was making a valid point,(in fact, he says 'let me just make a point...') for which the bracelet and the name were not the main thing -- at least he hadn't planned beforehand to exploit it, unlike McCain.
The parents of the deceased soldier asked Obama to quit wearing their son's bracelet months ago because the exact same thing happened in at least two other speeches he gave. The mother was against the war but can't stand the thought of her son being used like a political toy when Obama can't even remember his name, the father hated it from the beginning because it removed the honor from his son.
I'm sick of the republicans saying "This kid dies in Iraq, vote for me!" What Obama said is the thing that is true, "Don't let another mom go through what I am going through right now" People, she want's her child out of Iraq, just like the rest of America want the troops out! Vote Obama '08!
Madison resident Brian Jopek, the father of Ryan Jopek, the young soldier who tragically lost his life to a roadside bomb in 2006, recently said on a Wisconsin Public Radio show that his family had asked Barack Obama to stop wearing the bracelet with his son's name on it
Jopek: "She (Sargent's mother) has turned down any subsequent interviews with the media because she just didn't want it to get turned into something that it wasn't. She had told me in an email that she had asked, actually asked Mr. Obama to not wear the bracelet any more at any of his public appearances."
Thanks for this. EVERYONE LOOK THIS UP!! It sickens me to know Obama used the Jopek's for his egotistical purpose of winning. So sad. Obama will do anything, just anything, to win.
As far as I know McCain's camp was not involved in caucus fraud (Obama was). McCain's camp did not threaten & pressure repub delegates who supported others (Obama's camp did). McCain did not tell Israel that Israel was its own greatest ally...
Obama belonged to a racist church for 20 years. His mentor and pastor of 20 years-Jermiah Wright is a bigot.
Obama has flip flopped on FISA, offshore drilling, taxes, Iran, Iraq, accepting public finacing, Countrywide and Fannie Mae.
He rails against Wal-Mart, yet his wife made a small fortune from a food-processing called Treehouse Foods. Treehouse Foods largest customer is Wal-Mart.
This is why veterans and the military have such disdain for democrats. They use them as props. Democrat Dick Durbin calling them nazis and comapring them to the troops under Pol Pot. Democrat John Murtha committing libel agaisnt marines in the Haditha 'massacre' 7/8 already cleared. Two have just sued him for libel.
Talk about disasters, how about democrats JFK and LBJ getting over 57,000 Americans killed in Vietnam?
Talk about coherent. The liberal media is protecting the gaffe machine known as Hairplug Biden. Just this past week Joe Biden told a cripple to stand, said that FDR in 1929 addressed the nation regarding the depression via the tv-FDR was not elected until 1932 and the tv was unveiled in 1939, and said that paying higher taxes is patriotic-eventhough in ten years, he has donated less than $3,000 to charity.
Don't forget he never said partition Iraq... that one blew me away, since he only said it a million times and it's on tape. They get the lie out and roll to the next one, the media will push it and not do facts, corrections, etc. Free speech, journalism, Pravda.
Haha! This is what republicans are pointing too? What about the the nearly 4,200 dead soldiers that McBush supported? Tell those dead soldiers families who was responsible.
A democrat president who thought getting BJs, selling our intel to China, cozying up to NK and looking good was more important than answering our deaths at embassies getting blasted, the USS Cole, the first WTC bombing. Not to mention the opportunities missed when OBL was offered on a platter or we had him in our sights.
You are here because of blood, you don't have to pretend to be 'counterculture', this country was minted in that. We fight, don't take land, feed and help the world.
This is a MAJOR GAFFE that the mainstream liberal media is conveniently not reporting. Had this been Sarah Palin...the media would be drooling all over this gaffe and replaying it thousands of times.
Neither of them look good here. Using Dead soldiers to score political points is pretty disgraceful. McCain looks worse than Obama because he went there first.
Obama didn't know the name because he hasn't been using the dead kid for scoring political points at every rally the way McCain has. It's ridiculous to say that Obama doesn't care, or that McCain doesn't care. Everybody cares about dead soldiers. That's why politicians use them as props.
Obama could care less about the troops. He uses them as props. When he couldn't use them as a photo op in a German military hospitable, he didn't go visit the troops.
Bottom line: Obama belonged to a racist church for 20 years. His mentor and pastor of 20 years-Jeremiah Wright-is an anti-American bigot.
Look, you can't have it both ways. He's damned if he does, damned if he doesn't. Had he gone, what would be the republican talking points? Oh he only went there for a photo op. But hey that's politics.
People want change. That's a fact. There is however nothing new under the sun. What Obama stands for is not new, just old style liberal politics. I've been around now for quite a few election cycles. I've seen what works and what doesn't. The only thing I have ever seen stimulate and grow our economy is lower taxes.Trust me I am not rich but you have to let people make money without taxing them to death. This is what creates jobs.
obama is a fake. how could he not know the name. b/c he didnt care. liberals dont care. they see soldiers and they see evil. they are against iraq b/c they dont understand you have to fight sometimes. talk is all they want to do and once they force us out of iraq see how quick they say we cant wil afganisran and want to leave there.
Honestly, I think Obama looked down at the bracelet and stuttered on purpose.
Think about it, this is what Obama and the Democrats want the Republicans to focus on. This way they can turn around and say, "See, Republicans don't care about the economy, war...". Also, it opens up the dialogue about why the young man died in the first place -- Bush/McCain's war.
This complaint is nothing short of trivial. It's nothing but a desperate attempt for people who want to find something to complain about Obama. As if reading the soldier's name is more important than Obama's point, that it's not worth having so many of our soldiers killed for a war that should have never been started in the first place.
Come on, this is sad and pathetic on Obamas part. He should of at least remembered the guys name. Why the he** did he mention this Soldier only after McCain mentioned a Soldier? IS Obama playing I can do you one better? Thats so childish and Obama should apologize to the family of said Soldier for this stupid stunt.
I think it is completely sad and pathetic for McCain supporters to miss the irony of it all. McCain had planned all along to use this bracelet thingy to gain sympathy, not suspecting that Obama had one too. The name is utterly irrelevant, and it was a hard name to remember too. The first names were really common names that are easy to mix. Doesn't hurt to double-check it first. People matter, not names. Obama's 'stunt'? McCain is the only one who had planned such an exploitation in advance.
With so many challenges in this world, 0bama's "Me too!" and "John is right!" show that he is not ready to lead. He already sparked a strong reaction in Pakistan with his comment of unilaterally enter Pakistan if their leaders don't agree to work with him.
You have to have a person with GOOD JUDGMENT, intelligent, with will but with heart, too. A president has to surround him/her self with the same kind of people. The president has to be fearless and have a mindset that the good of the American people is more important than his/her personal welfare. Who do you think embodies these qualities more? Obama? Obama seems to be one of the most self-serving, ambitious, disingenuous people I have ever seen. I don't trust him at all.
self serving? he falls into the tax bracket for people that HE wants to raise taxes on. He doesn't accept money from lobbyists.. He wants to put an end to lobbyism in DC.. He was a community organizer.. How is that self-serving? McCain CONSTANTLY talks about his imprisonment, and his days in veitnam, in order to bolster his image in everyone's eyes. It's a pathetic ploy. THAT is self serving.
Obama conveniently says "I have a bracelet too" then can't even remember off the top of his head who's name is on the bracelet. Pretty weak attempt at trying to equal McCain's genuine concern for the mother of the fallen soldier he wears a bracelet in honor of. Cheap, very cheap, Obama.
Sadly, the New Hampshire Mom's son did die in vain, and other mothers will face the same loss as the mother from Green Bay. The election changes none of this, and neither does jewelery.
If Obama has to look at the name on his braclet, it may be because he hasn't been figuratively waving the dead soldier's corpse around for political gain at every rally like McCain has.
he looked at the bracelet.. big fucking deal. it's not like it's something he had to hide. only republican smears would make an issue about something so petty. you do realize this clip is also being used to promote an awesome comeback against mccain, by another poster, right?
Not to be outdone, McCain rips off his shirt, revealing his tattoo.
Please Mr. Candidate, take this bracelet with my dead son's name... and honor his memory by using him to score political points on national TV. Godspeed!
I wonder where UhBama's bracelet is today? Do you think he threw it away AT the auditorium, or did he wait till he got back to the hotel? It'll be interesting to see how he wiggles out of it when next week he's photographed with no bracelet.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm impressed that he's actually got it on his wrist, and takes the care to get the name right. A thoughtful man who will make a thoughtful President.
Hey MoonkinMaple, Watch the video again. McCain does NOT read the name off his bracelet. McCain VERY briefly looks down at his wrist as he raises his arm. This was not to read the name on the braclet. It was way too brief a glance for that. He was merely raising his arm to show he was both wearing the bracelet during the debate, and making sure the bracelet was visible to the audience and not covered by his sleeve.
Very briefly? I don't think it was VERY briefly. That would be certainly long enough for me to read a simple name. Do you think I'm automatically defending Obama? I'm not.
McCain won the debate hands down. I noticed Obama's bracelet slip-up (And thats all it was) when it happened live. McCain won the debate, the meaning behind the bracelet he wears is sincere. He was a soldier too, who suffered greatly as a POW. Obama was using the soldier's death as a political tool. And thats sad.
Obama is so grade schoolish. "I've got a bracelet, too" like a child and then he doesn't even remember the name on it so he has to look at it. McCain clearly got under Obama's skin last night.
Has anyone looked at the video highlighting John McCain's speech?
Just search for "John McCain discusses his bracelet".
Has anyone noticed he also looked at his own bracelet? Right in the beginning where he lifts his arm. He continues to talk however as he does it, so it's less noticeable. Makes it seem like he's just trying to display it for the audience. They both had to look at their bracelets. Big deal.
What privileged information do you have that entitles you to make that judgment? How do you know what goes on in a man's heart? I think McCain is wrong on all kinds of things, but it would be a bit of a leap for me to think I could judge his sincerity.
The only thing sad is that so many people wanted a war that had no justifiable reason. Both of the men referenced were killed because of poor decisions. Let's not continue encouraging our government officials to act and then think/validate.
Any of you who think that "the troops" support McCain can do a little web research on individual campaign donations. Different search engines give slightly different results, but in all searches, Obama is either ahead or roughly equal to McCain in contributions received from active service members.
you know, everybody can make all the excuses for their candidates that they wish, but the election of the president of the United States is really really important. Can you all take a long serious look at what you see BEYOND the politically-motivated words, and try to discern the PERSON that is running for office? What is the moral character? What is their experience? How much do you know about them? How long a history do they have for you to reflect upon? Really....
Ummm... He was just correcting himself to say it came from the mother, not the soldier himself. Who would twist the words of a candidate paying sincere tribute to a fallen soldier? Oh yeah, a political campaign team.
Its obvious that his hesitation isn't because he forgot the soldier's name. Its because he started to say it as though he got the bracelet from the soldier himself, when of course it was the soldier's mother who gave it to him. He was just backing up to say "the mother of". Seriously. Just watch it - its very clear.
Was he wearing the bracelet at that fundraiser in San Francisco? Back then Uhh... Uhh... Jopek was just another redneck clinging to his guns and bible.
MoonkinMaple - it IS significant that Obama had to read his bracelet (not just look at it): the name on it wasn't important enough, or he hadn't been wearing it long enough, for him to remember it. That speaks volumes, if you think about it. Sure McCain lifted his arm up with the bracelet on it - that was definitely a politically-motivated move. He wanted to show he was wearing one. But damn, at least he remembered the name of the service member!
I apologize. The point I was trying to raise that since John McCain looked at his bracelet, we will never know whether he read it or not as he looked at it. That was my point. I think this issue is silly because we have no idea whether John McCain remembers the soldier's name before or after - he says the soldier's name after looking at his bracelet as well.
TheRuns - you must be naive -surely you can see that Obama's groomers anticipated that McCain would wear the bracelet & get it into the debate on foreign policy..and they were ready with their own bracelet. Unfortunately for Obama, he couldn't remember the name of the soldier whose bracelet he was wearing. You REALLY think that the soldier's mom felt "honored" that Obama couldn't remember her son's name? Typical...he is all form, no substance.
Obama was hesitated because he was correcting himself. He was going to say that the bracelet was from Sgt. Jopek when it was really from his mother. I guess McCain hesitating with his soldier's name was due to old age, but of course we can't discuss the mans age even when he has a 1/3 chance of dying in his first term. And you guys claim the democrats are too PC, lol.
I didn't say she felt honored that he couldn't remember the name. But thanks for twisting my words.
I'm well aware why he wore the bracelet. And yes, he is substance. His substance on the issue is that if he's President he'll get the bulk of the soldiers out of Iraq sooner than McCain will, and will stop having the country waste $10 billion a month on Iraq.
That's not form. That's substance. Dwelling on whether or not he could remember the name is NOT substance. It's trivial.
A bunch of people here are pointing out how they think the soldier's mother, Tracy Jopek, feels about this. I'd bet anything that if you asked her, she'd be honored that he mentioned this at all, and that he wore the bracelet at this important debate. If you think she's going to hold it against him that he didn't remember the name at that moment, it's nothing but wishful thinking on the part of someone who doesn't want Obama to win this election.

@klayman2 They would what, "dumbass"?

From IRELAND
1) Part of Obamas decency of character is, despite the rumours of Risk that were flying around at the time, he STILL chose Biden for VP over Hillary; the very fact that he did NOT pick Hillary simply in order to gain MORE votes only reaffirms that this man is thoughtful & has substance.
He went ahead in picking who he FEELS is the best choice to look after America, if needed. THAT is brave & THAT is showing integrity & staying true to what YOU believe is right for all.
Angie2106 3 years ago 6

It's kinda hypocritical of you to be talking about spreading propaganda with that biased post you just made.
ilovesaskia 3 years ago 6
McCain voted against it because the bill was ear-marked as hell, one of which was a pull out timeline, which he did not want to endorse. Obviously not every military man/woman wants McCain, but it's safe to say most of us do. Palin is experienced and many woman like her because she's gone far without comprimising her morals (Hillary) and she's a mother. Yes I am biased, in case you don't understand how the world works, everyone and everything is biased, congratulations you figured something out.
armormaster 3 years ago
Obama voted against funding because it DIDN'T include a pull out timeline, which he did not want to endorse.
Yet somehow it is only Obama who is the bad guy.
As for MOST of you wanting McCain. More than 50% of the military donation is in favour of Obama. I only say over 50 cause I don't know the actual figure but I know it's a lot more than 50%. That's not most of you.
As for Palin not compromising her morals.
She's recently been found guilty of violating public trust in her own state.
ilovesaskia 3 years ago
Then there's the fact that she lied about not pressuring Monegan into firing Wooten, when there were several phone calls logged to Mr Monegan from the Palins.

A mother cannot make decisions for her child forever. He chose to go. Many choose to go back/re-enlist. But if Obama wants to honor the mothers request, he would not cut funding for the military. He would increase it so that our soldiers, our loved ones, had the resources they need to protect themselves.
SodaPopFizz13 3 years ago
McCain voted against funding for troops because the package included a timeline for withdrawal from iraq.
Obama voted against funding for troops because it DIDN'T include a timeline for withdrawal from iraq.
Obama wanted to help fund them to get them out.
McCain wanted to help fund them to make em stay there for God knows how much longer.
ilovesaskia 3 years ago
The bottom line is that our soldiers choose to enlist and choose to go to Iraq. I have two brothers in the Marines, one of which went to Iraq.
And I would never dream of DISRESPECTING him, the others who put their lives on the line, or who GAVE their lives, by saying that this war should've never happened and we should pull out before our goal is reached. Should they have died for nothing? or should we continue until THEIR goal is reached?
mmmbubblegum 3 years ago
I too have loved ones in the military (my boyfriend and two other friends are in the Marines, two in the Army, and three in the Navy). Although I would love to the war be over so that our soldiers are safe and can come home, I agree that the goal needs to be reached first.
SodaPopFizz13 3 years ago
Right. No one wants to be at war, but sadly it's a necessary evil to protect our country.
mmmbubblegum 3 years ago
I don't think the deceased soldiers would wan't more people to keep fighting and dying in a war that seems to have no direction or goal to justify their own deaths. I don't think they're selfish like that. Many soldiers don't want to be in Iraq and don't see where the war is going, they're just there because someone told them to be there.
Would you disrespect those soldiers by saying they should fight and possibly die in a war only to justify others who did the same?
It will never end.

Still, how long did he have to prepare for this debate? I've only heard this guy's name like ten times today and I'll never forget it -- Ryan David Jopek. There, I even spelled it correctly. And the point isn't that he had to read the name, but that he ignored the mother's initial request that he not mention her son in public anymore.
agentpolsky 3 years ago
You can find multiple news sources in which Tracy Jopek defends his use of the bracelet in the debate. Google "soldier's mother obama." The news/internet, I'm afraid, can support any "argument," liberal or conservative. There will always be sources of information that speak to and validate one's personal views and agendas. The closest thing to unbiased are the candidates' websites, and even then, they are both honeymooning us, fighting to win the vote.
wellspringing 3 years ago
Well I basically agree. I think all in all this is not a big deal for Obama. She defended him, despite her earlier request that he not use the bracelet in public. But, since she now says she's 'ecstatic,' I think this is a non-issue that will not even get 15 seconds from the MSM.

Don't fall for it.

This complaint is nothing short of trivial. It's nothing but a desperate attempt for people who want to find something to complain about Obama. As if reading the soldier's name is more important than Obama's point, that it's not worth having so many of our soldiers killed for a war that should have never been started in the first place.

Exactly.

He already sparked a strong reaction in Pakistan with his comment of unilaterally enter Pakistan if their leaders don't agree to work with him.

if he cares so much how come does not care enough to know the name of the man. typical liberal they care but not enough to know the mans name.

I don't trust him at all.
jdrider54 3 years ago
self serving? he falls into the tax bracket for people that HE wants to raise taxes on.
Gangularis 3 years ago
yeah that McCain. Spent years in POW camp so he could spring this ploy on Nobama
SkeeterN 3 years ago
I didn't say he spent those years as a POW so he could do it.. but he DOES use it A LOT, as leverage.
Gangularis 3 years ago
Obama has a weak resume for a presidential candidate. That is why John McCain took him to school in the debate. He is little more than an empty suit.
SkeeterN 3 years ago
Obama conveniently says "I have a bracelet too" then can't even remember off the top of his head who's name is on the bracelet. Pretty weak attempt at trying to equal McCain's genuine concern for the mother of the fallen soldier he wears a bracelet in honor of. Cheap, very cheap, Obama.

Sadly, the New Hampshire Mom's son did die in vain, and other mothers will face the same loss as the mother from Green Bay. The election changes none of this, and neither does jewelery.
spiderbaby1958 3 years ago
It wasn't a bracelet with a soldier's name.
It was a miniteleprompter, cueing him on what he's supposed to say!
The man is incomplete and incompetent, without one!!!
ToddonCapeCod 3 years ago 2
If Obama has to look at the name on his braclet, it may be because he hasn't been figuratively waving the dead soldier's corpse around for political gain at every rally like McCain has.
spiderbaby1958 3 years ago
Or maybe it's because he barely took the time to read it.
Reggie1971 3 years ago
Poor Obama. No teleprompter to tell him the name on the bracelet.
SkeeterN 3 years ago
he looked at the bracelet.. big fucking deal. it's not like it's something he had to hide. only republican smears would make an issue about something so petty. you do realize this clip is also being used to promote an awesome comeback against mccain, by another poster, right?
Gangularis 3 years ago
Not to be outdone, McCain rips off his shirt, revealing his tattoo.
Please Mr. Candidate, take this bracelet with my dead son's name... and honor his memory by using him to score political points on national TV. Godspeed!

I wonder where UhBama's bracelet is today? Do you think he threw it away AT the auditorium, or did he wait till he got back to the hotel? It'll be interesting to see how he wiggles out of it when next week he's photographed with no bracelet.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I'm impressed that he's actually got it on his wrist, and takes the care to get the name right. A thoughtful man who will make a thoughtful President.
newkemhigh 3 years ago
Hey MoonkinMaple, Watch the video again. McCain does NOT read the name off his bracelet. McCain VERY briefly looks down at his wrist as he raises his arm. This was not to read the name on the braclet. It was way too brief a glance for that. He was merely raising his arm to show he was both wearing the bracelet during the debate, and making sure the bracelet was visible to the audience and not covered by his sleeve.
CamaroCaron 3 years ago
Very briefly? I don't think it was VERY briefly. That would be certainly long enough for me to read a simple name. Do you think I'm automatically defending Obama? I'm not.
MoonkinMaple 3 years ago
McCain won the debate hands down. I noticed Obama's bracelet slip-up (And thats all it was) when it happened live. McCain won the debate, the meaning behind the bracelet he wears is sincere. He was a soldier too, who suffered greatly as a POW. Obama was using the soldier's death as a political tool. And thats sad.
CamaroCaron 3 years ago
Obama is so grade schoolish. "I've got a bracelet, too" like a child and then he doesn't even remember the name on it so he has to look at it. McCain clearly got under Obama's skin last night.
cncmaster3 3 years ago
Has anyone looked at the video highlighting John McCain's speech?
Just search for "John McCain discusses his bracelet".
Has anyone noticed he also looked at his own bracelet? Right in the beginning where he lifts his arm. He continues to talk however as he does it, so it's less noticeable. Makes it seem like he's just trying to display it for the audience. They both had to look at their bracelets. Big deal.
MoonkinMaple 3 years ago
To McCain, the bracelet has deep meaning. To Obama, it's just bling. Just a prop; something to say "me too."
JustAFocus 3 years ago
What privileged information do you have that entitles you to make that judgment? How do you know what goes on in a man's heart? I think McCain is wrong on all kinds of things, but it would be a bit of a leap for me to think I could judge his sincerity.
bluecamper 3 years ago
It's called being observant.
JustAFocus 3 years ago
The only thing sad is that so many people wanted a war that had no justifiable reason. Both of the men referenced were killed because of poor decisions. Let's not continue encouraging our government officials to act and then think/validate.

Any of you who think that "the troops" support McCain can do a little web research on individual campaign donations. Different search engines give slightly different results, but in all searches, Obama is either ahead or roughly equal to McCain in contributions received from active service members.
bluecamper 3 years ago 2
you know, everybody can make all the excuses for their candidates that they wish, but the election of the president of the United States is really really important. Can you all take a long serious look at what you see BEYOND the politically-motivated words, and try to discern the PERSON that is running for office? What is the moral character? What is their experience? How much do you know about them? How long a history do they have for you to reflect upon? Really....

Obama was pwned last night
BirdsFlyBearsDont 3 years ago
Ummm... He was just correcting himself to say it came from the mother, not the soldier himself. Who would twist the words of a candidate paying sincere tribute to a fallen soldier? Oh yeah, a political campaign team.
dongodofredo 3 years ago
Its obvious that his hesitation isn't because he forgot the soldier's name. Its because he started to say it as though he got the bracelet from the soldier himself, when of course it was the soldier's mother who gave it to him. He was just backing up to say "the mother of". Seriously. Just watch it - its very clear.
bluecamper 3 years ago
Was he wearing the bracelet at that fundraiser in San Francisco? Back then Uhh... Uhh... Jopek was just another redneck clinging to his guns and bible.
TedT1478 3 years ago
MoonkinMaple - it IS significant that Obama had to read his bracelet (not just look at it): the name on it wasn't important enough, or he hadn't been wearing it long enough, for him to remember it. That speaks volumes, if you think about it. Sure McCain lifted his arm up with the bracelet on it - that was definitely a politically-motivated move. He wanted to show he was wearing one. But damn, at least he remembered the name of the service member!
jdrider54 3 years ago
I apologize. The point I was trying to raise that since John McCain looked at his bracelet, we will never know whether he read it or not as he looked at it. That was my point. I think this issue is silly because we have no idea whether John McCain remembers the soldier's name before or after - he says the soldier's name after looking at his bracelet as well.
MoonkinMaple 3 years ago
TheRuns - you must be naive -surely you can see that Obama's groomers anticipated that McCain would wear the bracelet & get it into the debate on foreign policy..and they were ready with their own bracelet. Unfortunately for Obama, he couldn't remember the name of the soldier whose bracelet he was wearing. You REALLY think that the soldier's mom felt "honored" that Obama couldn't remember her son's name? Typical...he is all form, no substance.
jdrider54 3 years ago 2
Obama was hesitated because he was correcting himself. He was going to say that the bracelet was from Sgt. Jopek when it was really from his mother. I guess McCain hesitating with his soldier's name was due to old age, but of course we can't discuss the mans age even when he has a 1/3 chance of dying in his first term. And you guys claim the democrats are too PC, lol.
dclacomb 3 years ago
I didn't say she felt honored that he couldn't remember the name. But thanks for twisting my words.
I'm well aware why he wore the bracelet. And yes, he is substance. His substance on the issue is that if he's President he'll get the bulk of the soldiers out of Iraq sooner than McCain will, and will stop having the country waste $10 billion a month on Iraq.
That's not form. That's substance. Dwelling on whether or not he could remember the name is NOT substance. It's trivial.
TheRuns 3 years ago
A bunch of people here are pointing out how they think the soldier's mother, Tracy Jopek, feels about this. I'd bet anything that if you asked her, she'd be honored that he mentioned this at all, and that he wore the bracelet at this important debate. If you think she's going to hold it against him that he didn't remember the name at that moment, it's nothing but wishful thinking on the part of someone who doesn't want Obama to win this election.
TheRuns 3 years ago
actually mccain's used this story a lot before. i doubt he didn't know the name.
