Thanks makeup gourmet! this realy helps me. I am half korean and half italian but my eyes are very almond like. this really made them look the asian shape. thx. now I can look full korean and match my friends ^^
... i'm the opposite of y'all. XD i have asian eyes... and I'm not liking it with eye make-up on... it gives me a very oriental look, and i'm not "diggin" it. any suggestions?
Wow I thought this guy was just a host for makeupgourmet but I guess he's also a makeup artist huh. He's good though. By the way, one of my eyelid is bigger than the other one as well so I feel what some of you are saying.
i wouldn't be THAT harsh. My eyes are built like that, not a monolid, but not a doublelid ENTIRELY, like the azns in the video, and this is the only video I could find of azns with eyes like mine...
Mine too - it sucks! I had surgery when I was toddler because the lid originally drooped pretty heavily. They cut too much out so that I basically don't have a lid. Thankfully the other lid is naturally very small so it's not a huge difference. Plus my eyes are pretty hooded as it is so it's difficult to play with different eye shadow looks...:(
Question sir! i dont even have eyelid. what u have done was for asian eyes which they have pretty good eyelid! can u pick a girl who doesnt have eyelid and show me (us) how to wear make up on it please? I will be thankful!
Many brands sell specific eyebrow like shades of powder. Some are accompanied by a gel to set and deepen the color. I like the Smashbox colors. That said, I often use an appropriate shade of eyeshadow as eye brow powder.I believe in makeup multi-functionality. Thanks! Check out more at makeupgourmet(dot)com
Thanks for the tutorial! I'm definitely gonna try these techniques. Just out of curiosity, where can I find a brightening pencil? Is it just a light colored eye liner? Does it come in one color or are there many different colors?
i like the video and thanks for posting it. However, specially during the contoured eye makeup session, your hand were covering the model's eyes and exactly how applying moment so couldn't really get how u started putting the colour. and trying it myself ended up as a mess... :(
This is one of our first episodes and we have since remedied camera angles. Look forward to my 30 Something episode where i will re-feature these looks on an asian model. Subscribe now to always be updated at makeupgourmetdotcom.
wow so on here i see of lot of asians loving our western eyes when in truth, lots of us want to look like you guys!!! i envy you asian peoples......you all are so pretty
it's the grass-is-greener mentality. Love who and what you are naturally, focus on the inner beauty and it will manifest itself externally. Also, we are all beautiful through our collective diversity.
I'm not Asian, rather half Cherokee Native, and this works wonderfully for us too. We have the crease, but we also have the fold in the side of the eye. This is great!
I know, I am Asian myself and I hate trying on eye make up or new styles. Most of the time they just look wired on me. I wish I had big beautiful eyes like Kim Kardashian,
iv always loved watching asian tv series and i love how their makeup looked so fresh, shimmery and light. iv been doing makeup for my friends but the ones with almond eyes with almost no crease had been tough for me.iv researched thru the internet on how to do asian eyes for sometime now and your tutorial had been very helpful. Thank you so much!
cus not all asians have creases like theirs, its hard for me to do my makeup because i dont have a crease at ALL! i absolutly wish i had western eyes.
1)what do you suggest for someone whose eye lids are naturally dark? i often don't like to use eyeshadow because of that reason, but still like to high-lightened them somewhat. 2)what is the appropriate scale for a stage makeup? i am a performing artist often goes on stage with lots of lights on me. i've always had trouble of getting enough "color" on my face while on stage. it seems like no matter how much makeup i put on(in my standard), i'd still look "makeupless" under the spotlights.
To be honest i havn't seen many people showing how to do asian eyes using models with creaseless eyes, aka single eyelids, i think when people ask "my eye is flat how do i put makeup on" they are saying how do you put eyeshadow on a creaseless eye? because its really hard and these videos dont really help if they use models with crease in their eyes. if you get me...
Both the "Bright Eye" and "Smoky Eye" look are good for a flat, creaseless lid. The countor look is problematic unless you really take time to blend well. But I say why try to make your eye something it is not. Instead enhance what your eye is.
I think it's great you used models with double eyelids as a lot of makeup artist tutorials showing how to apply eye makeup to an asian eye assume "most" asians have creaseless eyes. I've never seen any statistics but I'd guess it's around 50/50
i think the probability of getting double eyelids (dels) vary from region to region in asia & it depend on genes too. my family is e. asian & everyone in my immediate & extended family who are related to me by blood are born w/ dels. only my uncle-in-law & 1 out of 3 of his children w/ my aunt are born w/ sels.
many asians have double eyelids.. it's just that they aren't deepset. I am glad there are tutorials on asian eyes that have double eyelids instead of always single eyelids
Wow. I loved this video. Thank you so much for putting it on. And also what brands of shadows and liner and names of colors did you use for the contour eye so I can buy them. Please I really would love to know!! Thank you
My mom is half azn and often uses these same tips. Many people often ask, "Why aren't your eyes *squinchy?* ?" And she simply replies, "What do you mean? Haven't you heard of make-up?" She also uses this eye-paste from Japan to make her eyes double-slitted if you want to look it up. However, make-up is more manageable and more convenient here in America. Thanks for uploading this video. People compliment my mom all the time on her eyes, and I am glad you're sharing these tips that she uses.
the only inconvenience is the makeup colors don't match the yellow undertone of asian skin if the company does sell any yellow-undertoned makeup at all, it will only sell it in 1 or 2 shades which doesn't always match your skin. if it matches, you will end up having to wear the same boring color or bump into someone wearing the exact makeup shades as you.
In my experience, that was true in the 80's and 90's but companies these days have dedicated their foundations to appeal to a larger makeup wearing demographic. Cosmetic lines from Bobbi Brown, Chanel and MAC have an extensive yellow undertone based foundations. Also, the Japanese lines Shu Uemura and Shiseido are created with the Asian skin in mind.
Totally agree! I get teased at school because of my eye shape. This makes me feel better because he said that lots of people ask how to do asian eyes.
Thank you so much. Like I said in another post I have difficulties doing my eye make-up. I am Black and Chippewa(native american) but I look half asian. Doing my eye make-up has ALWAYS been the hardest thing for me to do besides my hair. I have Julie's eyes but mine are just a little bit wider.
You're a great makeup artist! i am Asian with small double eyelids, and my eyes aren't that big. I heard that if you line under your eyes with black/dark pencil, you make the eyes smaller... even if you show off the almond shape. Is this true?
It is always a trade off when you choose to underline "small" eyes. What you lose in size, you gain in enhanced shape. It is especially vital for an eye which has a hidden upper eye line when the eye is open to underline the eye if you wish to draw attention directly into your eyes.
you're so helpful! You're a great makeup artist! I'm Asian with small double eyelids, and my eyes aren't that big. I heard that lining the bottom of your lid with black/a dark liner will make your eyes look smaller... is this true? I like your techniques though.
This is great for me! I'm not Asian, but my eyes are similar. I have no crease near the brow bone, and my lid folds very far down over the bottom part of my lid.
Cool video but umm... no offense but when people are asking you how to do asian eyes I bet majority of them are asking cuz they don't have creases on their lids.. the 3 ppl on this video have creases
yes, an eye's an eye, but it's the eye SOCKET that makes it difficult for us asian girls because we don't have that pronounced brow bone
i loved the contour look but unfortunately the camera view was from behind your hand! so i couldn't see how u were brushing & i couldn't see the 'contour' brush :(
I think the "Bright Eye" look is best if you want to open up your eyes and the "Smoky Eye" is best if you want to create the appearance of a folded lid.
In my experience, some but not all. I find a wide variety ofasian shaped eyes in my work. That is why i show 3 different loks to accommodate the varying shapes. Thank you for your reply.
My eyes aren't as nice as the asian girls in the video. They are kinda droopy but I had try your tip with using lighter color. Wow, it does make a difference. Thanks for the tip and demo :)
