More accurately, the Celts lived on Ireland and that is why the Vikings came- to raid their villages- and they ended up marrying into the Celts enough that many of the Irish have at least some Viking blood. Course, if your black Irish you have some German blood in you too! (By the way, did you know that Galicia, in Spain, has a fair amount of Irish blood? I guess it the name was kind of just the Spanish version of Gaelic.)
