Who is that playing bass? I know that Dave Pomeroy played on the album with this song on it but that guy on the bass (and in the video) sure doesn't look like Dave Pomeroy to me!!
Keith owned! - He was a binge drinker. He couldn't drink a beer. He would guzzle an entire bottle of vodka. He wanted to get to the edge in 10 seconds flat. A disease that took away an amazing talent way too soon.
Keith and Hank Williams was 2 of the greatest singers ever, it's ashame they let alcohol take over their lives. Could you imagine how much they would have accomplished if they could have gotten help with their problems. They would probably be untouchable in thei song witing and singing. Rest easy Keith you have fans forever.
I'll always carry this particular memory of Keith with me. I didn't get to see it the night it aired, but I was home the next day (the one time, in hindsight, I was happy that I was suspended from school for a couple of days!). I loved to hear Keith sing....and knowing this was likely his last TV appearance makes it all the more bittersweet. 21 years, and his music is still as timeless as ever. Thanks for sharing this for all the true KW fans.
Thanks for sharing this. It might not be the best quality, but it's one of the very few videos I could find of him performing this song...and as someone else said, they don't make 'em like that anymore!
its all good friend. It's all about the effort and love of Whitley.Man I miss that dude.He was good.Another lost soul on that lonesome lost highway.Even Lori Morgan as good lookin as she was couldn't change him.
@possumholler6 Geez, not so harsh! Real KW fans up till now hasn't complained. I posted it until I could locate the videotape this footage is on and I can convert it to digital, and then it would be reposted.
real country, you are so right, it just doesen't exist anymore, i grew up in Texas right in the heart of the outlaw country world....waylon and jerry jeff and, my hero, Steve Earle...and i loved Keith, too, and Very Gosdin..yeah, just honest, beautiful voices...bless Keith and his family...
Wow! Real live Country Music. No tanktops, no wholly jeans, no Jimmy Buffett wanna be's, no setting fire to the stage, no Gibson Les Paul's (no offense Mr Paul, RIP) and no headset microphones. That's the single coil sound of country music I remember and miss so much. I just might come back if they quit trying to play southern rock that I heard in the 1970's.
you've got that right. country music has lost its tradition and its a shame too. its a shame that such a talented singer died at such an early age. keith whitley is awesome and may he RIP
Hey sharon, i have a queation about this song, i am a musician and play steel guitar. When Keith recorded this song he does in in the key of E, i wonder when he played live if he did it in a different key. I love the guitar intro but its so hard to play..and in the official music video to im no stranger to the rain...i had a quick glimpse and saw that keith was using a capo on either the first or fourth fret but was jw, if he played it in a different key live
Hi Sharon - first, thanks for posting another video by the Great One. I had never seen these and your other new vids, and seriously, just when I think Keith can't impress me any more, he goes and totally blows me away again!
I have a question for you: do you know what happened to the official video for I'm No Stranger to the Rain? I love watching Keith pick guitar on the intro! It used to be on Youtube, but I can't find it anymore.
Thanks again for keeping his memory and music alive.
Thanks for stopping by! Keith consistently delivers... even now. (LOL) I think countrygerry had the video for INSTTR on her channel, but then she lost that account and started a new channel. I don't think it's on her new channel yet. I tried to convert my VHS copy of his home video "I Wonder Do You Think of Me," to DVD, but my machine wouldn't let me. Her's would, tho. But anyway, thanks again.

Is that Kelly Back playing guitar?
clewi1091 9 months ago
@clewi1091 That is Lou Toomey. He replaced Randy Hayes in Keith's band Miami sometime in late '87-early '88. He went on to play for Brooks & Dunn.

You can look in eyes here and tell he flat wore out. I have been there myself I recognize it. Just as I have in many other performers.

This song has gotten me through a few tough patches. Sometimes it's easier to take when you can listen to somebody who's been where you are. Sláinte.
