I don't know why I watched this - our male ekkie just died. (I spent so much on hospital and vet bills he won't be replaced for a long, long time). Our female ekkie is really missing him too. We sat down and had a little talk the other night - I told her in a very sad voice, "No more Teddy". She grunted twice (she's been very quiet lately) so I think she understood. Riley is so special. My ekkie was so special too, an excellent flier, burly and strong (he knew it too!) and very communicative.

ekkies are in the top 3 talking parrots. I have a grey and an ekkie, my ekkie is a fantastic talker. My grey is only a baby but i think will over take my green guy as he is picking up all his words really fast. I love them both. my ekkie is the same as Riley a red sided.......i love my birds to bits ;0)

African Grey are the number one talking Parrot, then there are the Amazons..some better than others...I don't know where the ekkie come in, but looks to be right up there

He is an Eclectus.  He looks like a Solomon Island or Red-Sided Eclectus. They are sweet birds.

You're the best. Brenda, I almost got one for christmas. Name was Elmo with lots of issues. He took a big chunk of my husbands finger well that was the end of that. I still wanted him for I knew I could turn him around but after having Angel such a sweetness he didn't want a bird that bit. I still visit Elmo at the vet. I love you Riley.

Im so sorry you had such a bad experience. Parrots bite. We take away their ability to fly away when they are scared or annoyed so they react in the only way they have. Even parrots that are hand tamed will bite if frightened. As a mom of 3 rescued parrots thank you for sharing your story, it helps people become more aware of the full picture in caring for these beautiful creatures.

Yay! I love Riley videos. Say Brenda have you got a tripod? That would solve your camera problem. If not you could also try to place the camera on a shelf or table that is high enough. Use books to adjust height. Riley is sitting still so that would have worked for you. I love his little button eyes!
