into what brain do you take your drum triggers and electronic drums? What kind of kit ur using? If they are electronic drums why did u use acoustic triggers? Thanx Cheers man!!
We have such a similar playing style! It's a bit uncanny really. You have great dynamic & play w/a relaxed but in-control style that almost suggests a jazz/funk background. I'm jazz/funk turned rock (kinda Jimmy Chamberlin except he was more 'Big Band' than Jazz b/f The Smashing Pumpkins). Been considering similar setup for an electric/hybrid kit (the Roland trigger module+ddrum triggers+MacBook Pro running Battery3). Any suggestions re: this approach? Any pitfalls to avoid, et al.? =)
You can make your own if you already have a drum kit! And for very little money outside of your drum module. About 12 years ago I triggered a full size acoustic kit with homemade RadioShack doorbell triggers taped to the edges of my heads. The triggers were wired to 1/4 TRS cables feeding an old Alesis D4 drum module. He's simply using triggers made by ddrum to trigger a Roland module or a laptop via MIDI. Dude, 12-15 yrs back this is how we ALL did it. It's come full circle! Cheers...
Hey Im lookin to make a setup very similiar to yours and I just have a few questions if you dont mind me asking. First, how did you mount the piezos on your diy cymbals? Where did you buy the rubber for your rims, or did you make them? What are you using for hi hat pedal? Are you using pearl mesh heads? Well anyways, sweet drumset,
Great! I'm currently looking for an e-drum kit but even a TD12 is not realistic enough. Is it difficult to use DFHS with an e-drum to get it sound like yours - what do I have to take care of? What are your equipment recommendations for building up a kit with DFHS (what hh-controller, is td6 enough as trigger 2 midi)? Do you have any source for information regarding DFHS and edrum, cause I could not find details for building up a working and great sounding kit like yours?! Thanks!
I've owned TD-12, Yamaha dtxpress but the ddrum4 (clavia) is still the most realistic feeling and sounding. Why can't big companies like Roland pay attention to why the ddrum4 is still the choice of studios around the world? 1)You can pick which drum sounds (samples of real drums) you like best and load them onto the module! Ddrum lets you download "megakits" sampled from top drummers. You can even find your own. Also ddrum4 uses 1000 steps of dynamics which is way more than the new Rolands.
Ever use RET Percussion drums? They come with BFD with an Alesis Trigger IO. I'm loving my new set. I got a new Stealth kit. It's a bit smaller, but still has the real feel, ya know? Check 'em out. Nice playing, by the way. It's good to see someone with a sense of style and rhythm.
to get that kind of fidelity using only usb (not firewire) shows a lot of talent tuning and building...nice job...i plan on doing a diy using a alesis trigger i/o on my yamaha birch custom kit.
Hey, nice job, I was thinking about buying a Diablo Punx kit myself and I was wondering if it's hard to get used to the two floor toms and one rack tom, instead of 2 racks and one floor. Nice job again
yes the drums are mounted to a gibraltar rack, the kick is a 12" keller shell mounted upright with a custom pedal attachment and spurs. a redshot is also used on the kick
The drums are DIY keller shells with ddrum redshot and pro triggers. The software is DFHS running through VSTack as the host. Audio card is an M-Audio Transit. The MIDI interface is an Edirol UM1. Latency has not been an issue for me but that may be because I have been triggering drums for years and am used to the very small amount of latency which my system produces.
The Gold cymbals are all Hart Dynamics Ecymbals. Crashes
are single zone with choke, the ride is a dual zone bow and bell. The black cymbals are Abel practice cymbals I converted to e-cymbals and are single zone only
How much would it cost to remake this kit? great playing mate!

Playing barefoot is really bad for the bones in your foot on the long run, the coldness of the metal pedals denumbs your feet!
Nice combination of realistic sounds ;-).

It depends on how hard you play your foot

its an elektric drumset with an acoustic style dude...
Its like an R.E.T. maybe
you the noob :-*
Great work by the way!!!
inaiwinsgroopie 4 years ago
The only difference between this and the R.E.T. kit is this isn't using the real heads... but everything else is about the same.
I love this video! DFHS sounds great! R.E.T. also uses ToonTrack stuff... and BFD.

DFH is the best. Like any good VSTi. It takes time to learn and mix correctly.
