I'm getting my cat declawed tomorrow, I'm very nervous for him! My view point on it is I would rather my cat be happy living in a home where he is loved and cared for without claws, than be stuck in the humane society or something without a home, with possibility of being put to sleep just to keep his claws! Hope everything goes well...
This is mean and barbaric. How would you like the tips of your fingers cut off!!! Hope your proud of yourself for causing unnecessary pain to an animal for your own selfishness. Shame on you. Hope Karma gets you big time.
This is just mean... I have two dogs, they sometimes bite the furniture, but not because of that I am getting their teeth off, it is the same thing to me. Claws are necessary in felines, that's their nature, to have claws and use them! there are so many different ways, a scratching post maybe?? and I don't find that it is unfair that that cat had its claws and the other cats didnt as a good reason to make it even with the others, I dont find it reasonable. Anyways, it is your cat...
@jimster586 I don't understand why amputating your cats paws seemed like a better choice than something less painful and drastic like soft paws or clipping. i just seems like you picked the option that allows you to be lazier than the option that lets your cat live more comfortably. Part of being a pet owner is acting in their best interest and providing them a safe, secure home.
@brenstal I've never heard of soft paws, and our other two cats were already declawed. It wasn't fair to the other two cats to let Oreo keep her claws, as she likes to play rough with them.
@MegaJimenez1234 When it comes right down to it, it's the owner's choice. We weighed the pros and cons before having it done to our three cats, and it seemed like the best choice.
She is walking quite well after the procedure! She favored her heels a little, but she walks on her toes throughout the vid so I have faith that she recovered well! I can tell by your concerns in the vid that you two are amazing pet owners! Don't let negative comments trouble you. Declawed cats and clawed cats are one in the same. They both deserve owners who love them!
@MommyofShadeandKacen She recovered very nicely after the procedure. My wife taught her to ease herself down off of things, rather than jumping down and landing on her front feet. Thanks for your comment!
I did my co-op course with the vets office and witnessed them declawing a cat. It was terrible. I'm glad none of my 3 cats are declawed. This procedure, make the cat unblanced, and causes them pain for their whole lives. I hope they make declawing illegal. Or at least educate owners on declawing, tell them how painful it is, so owner know the pain they're putting their cats through.
at least promise you will not give her up if she presents with behavior problems after her maiming... most declawed cats spend their lives in and out of shelters sadly, since owners have a hard time dealing with all the problems that come with amputation..
@kingdomjubilet You are soooo right! Exactly why majority of vets wont even touch this surgery and why most Rescues would never adopt out an animal if the potential adoptees told them in the process of applying they are going to maime it.
Maybe if they took the time 2 train them and stopped being cheap theyd lose weight, kitty would have 100 percent of his toes and that money you spent on the procedure could have went to a new rug and donations to the rescues that have to clean up your mess!
Your vet betrayed you. They are supposed to educate about this procedure that is banned in many countries because it is inhumane. Please see photos of x-rays to see what physical consequences are in store for declawed cats at LittleBigCat (dot) com, click on "Declawing" there. It's unfortunate so many people still don't do their research before going ahead with these amputations.
Should of had it De-PAWED, and replace the feet with caster wheels. Tie a string around her neck, with spacers to prevent strangulation, and pull her where you want her to go.

@MegaJimenez1234 Don't get your cat declawed it is totally wrong. No other country in the developed world does it - it is illegal - ask yourself why?

@ReconHHC I would definitely recommend declawing the cat, under those circumstances. I would probably do it sooner rather than later...

You didn't have her nails removed. You had her toes amputated at the first knuckle. Poor kitty. :(

@TheOregonRedneck We've never tried catnip on our cats, maybe we'll have to get some. :)
