Im thinking of getting an mbu puffer fish i alredy keep oscars and big plecs what size tank would i be looking at getting for an mbu also your set up looks mint thanks =)
Oh wow..discus and Geoffrey all living in harmony not to mention the even tiddler fish...I have both MBU and Discus and would love to mix them but just daren't :-(
beautiful fish! i was at my local fish store and saw a friendly mbu going for $120 about 5 inches, i myself only have dwarf puffers would like to get somthin that doesnt grow bigger then 12 inches, any ideas?
omg, I feel so bad for you, I had a green spotted puffer for a month and a half, she was a sweetheart and also my first green spotted pufferfish, so I'm not being too hadrd on myself but I am still very upset.I just didn't know how to take care of them properly, you know.
Green spotted need brackish water when they grow up, i think all puffers are pretty hard to look after. They are amazing fish though, so worth all the water changes and buying enough food to feed a small child. good luck if you get another one.
my tank is about the same size, had to get one specially made, so it was wide enough for him, it was 75 cm wide, as he needs a lot of turning space. think your tank would be plenty big enough for Fahaka, they dont get as big, but a full grown MBU really needs something much bigger to be proper happy. hope this helps. Would not put a Fahaka with anything else though, they are nuts!!
Hello, MBUs can be really agressive, geoffery was in a tank with other fish when he was about three inches long, there were a few casualties along the way, but very few. Most fish could swim right by his mouth when he was eating and he would still not go for them. I think it depends on the personality of the fish, as geoffery had an awesome personality. Thanks for your comment.
Sad news im afraid, Geoffery died a little while ago. I brought an Arrowana into the tank, he must of had an infection, lost Geffers, a ft long scoby and a ft long adonis catfish. Spent weeks on the phone to various fish doctors, but there seemed nothing i could do. He kept getting weaker, and in the end the infection got the better of him. Me and gf literally moved into the kitchen so we could be with him, all in wanted to do was hold his little fish fin and tell him it would be ok.
He developed an air bubble in his stomach, and although i tried to massage it out, it was too little too late. Had him for almost five years, he was one of the family, never thought a fish could upset me and my gf so much. Poor Geoffery, he will always be remembered and always missed. Rest in peace my friend!
there are two metal halide pendants hanging over, the tank has an open top, so could not really get a strip light. filtration is taken care of by two Fluval FX5's, a 3000 litre per hour UV filter and an RO filter filling a reservior underneath, i pump that up to the top tank every other day.

Whats your water like? How can you keep discus and bolivian rams healthy with congos syno's and mbu? Is it mostly hard or mostly soft?
