Fucking Disillusion. Fucking talent. BTTOS was a God-send, Gloria is very different and at first I hated the industrial elements. But as much as I listened to it I realized that they were still coming up with brilliant songs nevertheless. Hands down, I don't think these guys will ever disappoint me. Disillusion should keep making whatever the fuck records. I'll blindly buy them all.

Zu schnell gewachsen. Zu viel Spielfreude auf der falschen Ebene. Experimentell ist gut, aber erst die beste Melodic Death Metal Scheibe der Welt machen und dann in irgendeinem Experimentalsumpf zu versinken ist tragisch.

Back to Times hat für mich trotzdem den gleichen Stellenwert wie Reign in Blood oder Master of Puppets. Wer das Album nicht hat sollte es sich dringend kaufen!

Keine Ahnung, ich hab 1986 zum ersten Mal "Reign in Blood" von Slayer in der Hand gehabt. Danach fast nur Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth gehört und als sie neu waren dann auch Sepultura gehört. Nebenbei auch 2mal Death live gesehen, was meine Lieblingsband aller Zeiten ist.

Mittlerweile bin ich 34, hab knapp 1 Meter lange Haare und war letzte Woche hier in Stockholm beim Sonisphere um Mastodon live zu hören.

Ignorier mich einfach, ich hab keine Ahnung :)

War die Individual Thought Patterns Tour in Hamburg und danach hab ich Death live in Eindhoven gesehen (von dem Konzert gibts ne DVD).

Mastodon ist nicht wirklich "Metal", sondern mal wieder (erfreulicherweise) ne Band, die ihren eigenen Stil durchzieht. Die rocken live derbe.

Die SoP-Stücke waren live der absolute Hammer, vor allem Scavenger und natürlich Flesh and the Power it holds.

Vielleicht eins der besten Metalstücke aller Zeiten, krieg ich nach wie vor Gänsehaut bei ;)

I am listening to this kind of music since 1986 and i am still a die hard Death fan, even lighting a candle on every single 13th of Dec.

Gloria had potential, but Back to Times will ever be a milestone of my life, for its genius.

I think, the video is pretty cool. Maybe it isn´t done with the highest budget. But it mimicks my imagination of an possible vid for the song pretty nicely. You know all this spionage stuff with people running around randomly. And don´t forget all the mysterious bags which have to be dragged to or out of even more mysterious places. : D I think it´s awesome.

And please, don´t take everything so seriously here. Finally, it´s about ass-kicking music and not about deep-minded messages. ^^

i like both cd's, however did enjoy the experience that Back to Times of Splendor brought. I felt it was more musically inclined rather than a generic 3 minute song. Though Gloria's songs were unique in their own sense. It just feels like those songs were pumped out to make an album...

BTTOS was appreciated for being original, and I'd have even more respect for the band if Gloria was both original and GOOD. But my problem with Gloria is that the music was dumbed down considerably from BTTOS' standards, and sounds too much like Rammstein with a concept dubbed over.

I'm not saying it's completely awful, but I guess most people had very high expectations after something like BTTOS, and while Gloria certainly isn't bad, it isn't really very good either.

Personally I didn't listen to BTTOS and think 'This is so unique and good' my reaction was 'FINALLY a band gets it! this is what metal should be!'

the transitions were smooth and flowed nicely from slow/soft to fast/aggressive, the growls were perfect(not too weak not too over the top), the drums actually added to the music rather than just coming across as 'look at me I'm complicated and fast' and the guitars were catchy, aggressive, and interesting.

I never found any appeal in Gloria

I think BTTOS wat ten times better than Gloria, in the beginning... but after I "listened" to the album I changed my opinion. BTTOF is still better. The only thing with Gloria I don't like is in most of the songs the vocalist are talking, with distortion, instead of singing. And there are some VERY wierd riffs... like in Dread it, I don't like that song...

But I can't really find any news about Disillusion... can someone help me???

The guys in Disillusion are musical geniuses. Gloria is a great album, it's just not as metal as the older albums. You could say the same about BTTOS if you compared it to 3 Neuron Kings, which in my opinion was much heavier, though not quite as epic. I hope Disillusion goes back to playing the metal again.

PS: Vurtox is one of the most underrated guitar players on the planet.

I think "Back to Times of Splendor" was what they had been working towards throughout "Red," "Three Neuron Kings" and "The Porter" and when they reached that goal they moved on to a new style. "Gloria" might be to their next album as "The Porter" was to "Back to Times of Splendor," or they may change style again.
