  • These truss support roof systems that are lifted on narrow vertical support legs are extremely susceptible to lateral forces. The bases that support them are small, and often insufficient guy wires (or none at all) are used to stabilize the whole assembly. Overloading is also a constant problem, as people let themselves get pressured into bad decisions. There are no good excuses for any roof or truss collapse. It's usually due to greed, hubris, or incompetence. Or a mix of all three.

  • i wouldn't be blaming staging for this collapse or most of the other ones on youtube or in the news, a majority of stage collapses are due to weather, but the ones that are indoor you really can't play the weather card unless it was a really freak storm. most indoor ones are exceeding the weight or just plain misinformation from the venue/stadium "these girders are designed to carry x amount of tonnes" "are you sure ...*walks away* CRASH!...clearly not"

  • I have helped set these type of stages up, helping the staging company as a stagehand. Seems more and more arena gear is being put on the load stresses of these stages. The last one I did, in 2011 they actually used a truck strap to keep the tent from EVER being lowered in bad weather... A very bad move!

I also think adding video walls to the back truss is A BAD MOVE!!!

Just because you got lucky in one town, don't mean it won't fall in another. Lets care for all who work and visit these things.

  • I quite remember working a stadium show with a 6 tower roof about this size. We were warned of sever weather and by the time the stage manager gave us the OK to lower the roof (down to the deck we had hoped) we discovered the house electrician had shut the power off. No power for motors so we went to seek shelter. As a tornado touched down in the parking lot we watched the line arrays swing for about 10 minutes, but somehow by the grace of god the roof and tower survived.

  • I know the production company, I was not on the show, I will not reveal it was, And like you said I shook my head and a PRIZE BOX Fell OUT.... You need to condemn all concerts in OK, cuz you suck....

  • It's completely the fault of the stage master, he was obviously gone, yet the production said, HEY WELL put our shit on this stage,,,,,,>>>>YET, if anyone cares, do it and die. A good stagemaster would have lowered the roof due to high winds,to lower the amount of lift on the roof. I've seen stage masters slash the roof, meaning cut holes in the roof, regardless of what the promoter or band had said......many curse words.....though their contracts have clauses, sorry they where NOT stage hands.

  • damn what a mess i know that a trus beam wil snap like a tree

  • more often than not, these kind of disasters are caused by stupid irresposible production/stage managers that try to push it further than they should. If someone had been aware of the impending weather, they would have had apmple time to drop the roof as close to the deck as possible and guy it off. biggest cause for tower failure isn't shotty towers, it's irresposible rigging practices...chain motors hold it up, not down...that would be why you drop it and guy it off...we've never lost a roof.

  • Yeah, a couple of my freinds had to work this show....the stage manager lost quite a sum of money simply having to replace ruined equipment and extra man power to clean it up.

It was well over several hunder thousand dollars.

  • I wonder if they ever got paid the rest of their monies. Usually most companies have to bid on the festival. Promoters usually go with the lowest bid. Sad in order to make monies, corners are cut.. Outdoor roof loads are stagering. Was it worth it.

  • i have to defiantly agree with joshuawryder...crackerjacklee, you should have some respect for technicians and lean the classifications of them...and boy does it hurt to see those jbl vertecs on the floor!!!

  • crackerjack lee...trussing is not done by sound engineers at concerts..its done rigors....sound engineers got nthng to do wen it cmes to staging and trussing,,,,,FYI

  • ive watched a few stages collapse now on youtube,,,,im very surprised that it happens so often

  • Yeah.

Doesn´t people know anything about the effects of weather and wind?

    Damn...

  • Zebra went on anyway, ! lol

  • OMG this is very expansive JBL sound system :(.

  • next time you're at an outdoor event, keep yout family away from these structures unless they're certified by REAL Engineers. sound engineers are not real engineers, LOL! they could have designed break-out panels in the fabric with snaps designed to open and let go at a designed wind speed. this is a tragedy and a disaster of stupidity! all performers should ensure that this is so. it should be in their contract. needless loss of life due to stupidity. wannabee engineers! this happens a lot.

  • @CrackerJackLee Sound Engineers do NOT BUILD STAGES! Wannabee OSU/OU engineering grads.

  • @bo0tsy1

then who is building them...? Wile E. Coyote...?! the three stooges...? The Katzenjammer Kids...?

  • calculate the pressure on the total area developed by a force of even a moderate wind and you will see that all those upright beams could never hold. you'd require huge diameter guy wires at approx 60 degree angles with buried cement blocks to secure them in place.

  • look at the idiocy behind this. i can assure you that no engineer set this stage up. this was built by roadies and wannabee goofs who dropped out of high school and advanced from roadies to sound guys to stage builders. gov't should make it law that stages are approved by safety engineers and not woodstock escapees. the whole stage is a giant sail! like a sail boat.

  • @CrackerJackLee roadie to sound guys to stage builders? You are an idiot. It's stage builders, roadies, THEN lighting guys, then male strippers.....

  • @bo0tsy1

who the fuck are you to make light of this...? tell your idiot jokes to the poor bastard that was crushed...

shake your head...! do you hear anything...? what does that tell you...?

  • @CrackerJackLee I found a secret prize, It's tells me you have no concept of the live sound production business. I wish I could have spoken to the guy that was crushed, it's simple, don't get crushed by a stage at a Hillbilly Festival in OK.

  • @bo0tsy1

where did you find this secret prize of yours...? up your arse...? i asked you to shake your head...!! what is it that you can't figure out...?

  • @bo0tsy1

i don't know what you people have against the female form...

but, you're right... i am an idiot... now, stop trying to imprezz me...

    does it ever end...?

  • just looking at them line arrays on the floor makes me wanna cry lol

  • i'll bet this destroyed a lot of equipment. but on the bright side, moving the stages inside the beer tents was pretty fun, setting up sound and all that. i got to see bulletboys really close

  • Anyone get fucked up? That looks real bad.

  • What the fuck happend? Storm? Liiks kina wet,,

  • OMG! me and my mom were there when that happened! we just left the tent before the stage fell!!!!!!

  • Shit, that happened at this years event? or was it 07 ?

  • It was this year - 2008.

  • I played on the south stage the day before this happened and it was pretty damn windy. This happened about an hour after we left.

  • wow, that sucks..... I went to rocklahoma to see HARLOW and they rocked the day before on that stage

  • my dad played on the north stage today

(THE CAUZE) and they just called and told me all about what happened thats crazy!
