  • Microsoft Security Essentials is pretty bad. Poor detection rates.

  • go task manager and turn off malware then delete it :P manully lol if scan don't detect it

  • Microsoft secuirty essentials + zonealarm firewall = Completley Protected.

  • does this take up a huge amount of your hard drive

  • @joe18370 No, but it's not very useful. Recently, bottom of the ratings on detection, as well as self protection. Useless.

You know, if it was any good, people wouldn't get infected in the first place, yet sure enough, they do. It may show up in a scan, yet it should get caught on the fly, right.

  • COMBOFIX kills everything!!!

  • When i have a problem such as those fake pop up threats i usually ask a friend to re-install my XP clearing everything in the C and leaving the D files untouched i realized that my AVG anti-virus free version is useless on those fake threats im still using it but i will have a setup of that microsoft anti-virus in my PC just in case

  • I hope this replaces windows defender and comes with new operating systems.

  • @Rebelkid1112 it would not because Microsoft would have a lawsuit with other antivirus vendors thats why windows cant be virus free or almost virus free.

  • @mat9462

The antivirus companies have no intellectual rights to windows, so this isn't true. It's just easier for microsoft to let third parties handle it. It's not like people are going to pay more for windows because it has antivirus when they can get a free one online that is probably better.

  • @Yelkwood9 Mcafee told MS that when they just made Microsoft Security Essentials 1.0 if it was ever shiped with any version of windows they would have a law suit

  • i need help updating mine i does not want to

  • Please help!! My computer saus i am connected to the Internett wich is true but when i go to any browser i have and type a website lets say YouTube I won't be able to get launch it. It says it is loading but it does not load!! I can be on Skype, steam whatever but my web browsers does not work!! Please help :)

  • wow I didn't even think of the identaty thing. I would have just sold then what they bought at a higher price. damn those dudes are ass holes people like that should go to ass rape prison and not club fed like they do.

  • best anti-virus among all

  • the last couple virues i had recived were for google images

  • @Areyouseriouz yes but it is work and now a days people hate work soo yeah

  • This video is old they improved MSE alot for these 2 years :)

  • MSE IS A TROJAN THAT IS THE TRUTH

  • @33ruy There is MSE Rogue Fraud.

  • @33ruy That's Microsoft Security Essentials Alert which is another one of those rogue antivirus programs

  • i been infected with security tool like 6 times just go to safe mode and remove it thats basicly the fastest way

  • this is the exact thing that happened to me i restored it a few days back and after that there was no virus

  • Matt, MSE2 came out. Its suppose to have better detection rates and protection. Can you test it out. Im guessing it would be a fairly simple and short test.

  • Microsoft Security Essentials FTW

  • @garfieldandfriends1 MSE is not good.

  • I like this anti virus. It removed from my pc: 1 trojan attacker and 2 exploits. yeah i think i should be a little more careful when i download stuff (all the stuff i download is from google tho like sketchup...)

  • I have Linux Mint 9 one two machines, one of them has XP VM. I have two others running XP and one running 7. I don't worry about the Linux computers but the Windows computers are always giving me trouble. This is a great series, thank you.

  • yeah the only issue now is there is a piss ass rouge that blocks every opening of everything that looks exactly like security essentials removal screen

  • @the731272 i think you got antivirus action, It's a pain in da ass to remove lemme tell yah.

  • I hate security tool.

  • @Areyouseriouz

    Genius.

  • @Areyouseriouz Antivirus Companies would be out of a job XD

  • It looked like a rouge on my computer

  • I love Security Essentials. THANK YOU BILL GATES

  • @Areyouseriouz not really, Google isn't the only search engine, and it can't do anything for people who go directly to the link, so it wouldn't get much better.

  • remember this is when it was sorta new, now it's one of the best detections, and it now has rootkit detection to.

  • god, ppl who fall for this stuff should not be using a computer...

  • @Areyouseriouz lol, why...

1st, most virus are spread with social engennering, to get traffic, not google.

2nd, google makes alot of malware it's self... what's the point....

  • @happygamestvfun1 Since when does google make malware? Please give me your source to that outrageous claim.

  • @Areyouseriouz

    TOTALY AGREED!!

  • Thank you very much, you helped me fix my friends computer! :D

    I did notice however, that

    antispy.exe

    defender.exe

    tmp.exe

Appear hidden in task manager. Even with show all processes checked.

    My question is:

What does this virus actually do?

Besides not letting you get on the internet.

  • is this programm really free

  • @DjYotoobe Yes

  • hi i got three Microsoft security essentials norton360 and web root can all of them go together with no fighting

  • @Areyouseriouz:

Use Mahalo if you want a search engine that only has reputable results. Entries are contributed by humans; regular contributors achieve "points" which may be exchanged for cash or services as an incentive to keep things fresh. To avoid problems, contributors and staff review contributions.

Perhaps Mahalo is what you're looking for...

  • For Security tool anyways

  • LOL to stop all those fake alerts use this key: WNDS-S0DF5-GS5E0-FG14S-2DF8G ;)

  • question - will you be re-testing security essentials now that it's out of beta and released on-time? see if any noticeable improvements happened with the later development phase, like the nasty rootkit you mentioned.

  • Microsoft Security Essentials it very good small ram use small size so easy to download only super slow scan

  • @Areyouseriouz remember. it isnt everyone that use google, and that dosent help removing it.

  • Security Tool is a f*cking damn ANNOYING shit-rogue.

  • yo mat i had a question can i use security essentials and sand boxie at the same time, or will it cause problems? Thanks in advance for the answer

  • @bleachprotocole sand boxie is a browser not an anti vir so no it wouldnt

  • ComboFix Rules! Oh Yeah!!

  • do you think you can combinate avast internet security and mse together?

  • F**** YOU, SECURITY TOOL! I was infected with it, and it was awful. But, I used system restore and installed norton, and its fine.

  • i tried installing new version of this and it crashes everythime its validating

  • @SsShadowbaneSsS maybe u have a torrented copy

  • @SsShadowbaneSsS possibly ur using a pirated version of windows

  • @jerenator69

    @windflasher0

I tested MSE and it only detected 2 out of 5 sites i hit it with. avast! detected all 5 sites. I switched to avast!

  • @utubeguy35 avast sucks dude it doesnt detect what it should

  • When you have MSE does this automatically disable your windows defender?

  • @strawhatlufi187

    yes it does

  • What do I do do i switch to MSE or do i stay with Norton Security Suite (AKA Norton 360)

  • @utubeguy35 Norton requires a lot of CPU usage. In other words, it slows your computer down and if your CPU usage becomes at max it shuts it down. Trust me I've been there

  • @utubeguy35 Dump Norton dude. A virus deleted my entire C:\ drive and Norton didn't notice that my hard drive went down 300GB without me clicking anything. WTF? I can make a program in visual basic that monitors a random large consumption of memory. Norton freaking sucks. Lucky for me i had the Windows 7 install disk still and i managed to re install it and now i got MSE. Norton go to hell!

  • @jerenator69 norton sucks a** and comodo is better than norton

  • I actually agree with that.

  • MATTTT I need ur help big time kk i have a Rogue anti virus taht got past my MSE its called personal Security how do i get rid of it its not blocking downloads or anything

  • @randompark have gotten help yet??

  • @Areyouseriouz Use My Web of Trust. When you search in google it will let you know the bad sites. or even if you click on a site by accident it will prompt you that said site has a bad reputation

  • The best "Free" anti virus!

  • Is this better then Avira?

Because im running MSE and some people say that Avira is better :S

  • @Yosika123

    No!

I tested Avira too and it sucked...

    MSE is far better.

  • @Yosika123

I dunno, but the free version of Avira got an annoying pop-up reminding you to buy the pro version

  • lol this is a lot better then avast i used to have it and it said IT DELETED the viruses when it didnt do a damn thing! and it took for ever for a scan like a few minutes ago some stupid noob gave me a runescape webclient adress went to it virus >.> and mse detected and deleted right away stupid noobs these days T_T

  • I was thinking the same. But when it is green sites, it is good sites, but it CAN be threats there. So i like your thinking, but your not 100% protected.

  • @XFactorNorge That's true.

  • @Areyouseriouz - i agree, it would help alot, damn freakin' rogues!, Why don't they just piss off already.

    @mrizos - Great video btw! ;-)

  • you are my idol

  • to me malwarebytes and mse are the best together should i have something else or is this good enough?

  • @TheNathanHoskins

    I Use The Same..

    Except With SAndBoxie!(:

    Works Fine!!!

  • i update twice a day

  • I love MSE on my computer, but my poor little netbook has trouble running it smoothly. MSE goes to 50% CPU usage when I open folders, launch firefox, slowing it to a crawl and making windows unresponsive etc.

I've had to go back to Avira and its annoying ads.

  • did you scan your computer with mse ?

  • LOL "They have been... taken" Made me laugh

  • Microsoft Security essentials is like the win defender.. only it has a antivirus database... but for a free av.. its awesome... the only flaw is the automatic update... it has a autoupdate but you cannot set it.. usage of ram...lesser than avira..

  • Comodo+Avira +Sandbox= You are 100% secured. At least MSE is alot better than avast. :D

  • avast 5.0 internet security is a lot better than MSE

  • Lots of complaints about this program missing updates (See MS forums for MSE). I run it on 3 machines, and run into the same issue almost weekly on all machines. If you don't leave your computer on all of the time, it will often go days with no automatic updates. Frustrating. Have to do it manually.

  • MSE is a CLOUD BASED AV. Just because it hasn't updated for a day or two, doesn't mean you don't have the protection of the latest definitions. You do. Spynet, as Matt explained on his 1st MSE review, querys the Cloud server when it encounters an unknown program and compares it to the LATEST signatures that may not be in your machine. Being Cloud based means not always having to update daily. You still get up to the minute protection, AUTOMATICALLY. That's cloud computing from Msoft. BING!

  • From MSE itself, "You should always keep these definitions up to date to help protect your computer against the latest threats." Do you disagree with this? Say they're not important? Gee, why have them at all, then? The answer: big problem which needs fixing. And please don't use, "BING" in your comments, because it distracts me by reminding me of a search engine that just doesn't deliver whenever I try it.

  • baccusboy: I don't disagree with the statement in quotes about "always keeping definitions up to date". However, that same copy appears on ALL AVs. What do U expect them to say, "Never update definitions!" Thats just standard copy. While MSE updates should without question come in daily, the fact that they don't is mitigated by the very nature of the product (Cloud Based Computing) as explained by mrizos. MSE is new and will improve with time. As for BING, you may be right there.

  • What do you use to access your customer's computers of the internet?

  • @KGMJr32 He uses Remote Assistance, its already comes with Windows.

  • @GBKID14 How does he restart those machines without losing a connection?

  • I watched a Video on it, it connects to the IP address, you get a screen of their PC that comes up on your Desktop and you can do anything you want, then when your done there's a button(not sure what it's called) you click that then your disconnected from the PC.

  • I'm glad Microsoft finally released a decent anti vir :)

  • I hate that Security tool virus :P!

I was testing malwarebytes and i got Security Tool virus, didnt let me open or download anything so kinda hard to remove it XD!

  • @GWmackan , what does XD mean?

  • XD is a smiley

    X is the eyes

D is the happy mouth :D

  • I beta'd this, it's pretty kick ass but it's a pretty big-ass program. That's a big flaw in most anti-virus' , the programs are too big & too slow & the virus' start-up before the antivirus ;(

  • oh, ok, that explains it. you can though google it. :-)

  • I said, "Review if I may say" as in, If I should call it that. I'm just saying that I was shocked even if it was just a "test" because normally Matt gets deep and explains a lot about his videos.

  • hi, are you serious with your question? you are not familiar with windows defender? it is still in use with almost all windows OS versions. and yes I think it is. thanks

  • Hmm... different ending, but I can't wait to see the next video :D

  • Hi

Thank you for this valuable reviews. you are great explaining step by step how to make computers secure and easier.

I have a request though. I would to have a review on windows defender for windows XP pro from you. I wonder if I am lucky enough to see one soon. once again thank very much and say hello to your baby and wife from me.

  • I find this "review" ~if I may say, very boring and not too interesting. This is my personal opinion. The reasons being it was very short, not much "explained" like the previous posts, and it was cut off at the end. Not too impressed Matt. But... You're still awesome :P

  • You can have 2 real time programs such as an anti virus program with Threatfire.

  • No, you cannot have two real-time scanners running, specifically antivirus programs. The reasons being, your CPU and PM will be ski-rocketed and the two programs will conflict and cause some if not sevre damage to the PC.

  • Threatfire is MADE to go along with you anti virus it catches what it misses. Matt says so in his video and the website says it as well.

  • To all of you who are arguing about anti malware tools, it's quite simple:

You CANNOT have two real-time scanners running (ex. MSE + Kaspersky)

You can however have a real-time (MSE) and an on demand scanner (Malwarebytes, SAS) because they do not conflict.

Yes it is possible to find two real-time Anti viruses that do not conflict, but it can and possibly will harm your system.

    Thank you!

  • Ummm, I already said that. Also, I wasn't arguing.

Only stating facts as I know them to be true. We must all be vigilant in protecting our PCs from malware attacks. That includes Layered security.

  • I can't really trust microsoft security essentialls because my last trial of it was very bad panda cloud antivirus is better than the antiviruses that microsoft made

  • I like the old Matt you don't make nearly as much videos as you used too :(

  • Combofix, that was the other one, that was a very good one

  • I have this program, it's pretty good. But I had such a vicious malware I had to use rkills to stop the processes then use Malwarebytes and another one to get rid of everything completely. What I had was rewriting my registry.

  • The "sexy" comment below is yet ANOTHER cheesy attempt by an online sex site to lure horny guys to their stupid site. Please don't fall for this nonsense. "SeexyyAamberr" is a FAKE person wanting you to follow her off Youtube and onto the scumbag site where they will either try to get $ from you or download malware on your PC. MATT, Please delete this Garbage!! The girl is prob a HO!

  • what version of vmware workstation are you using

  • I'm impressed by MSE. Can't really talk about detection rates as pretty well protected from bad sites by checking SiteAdvisor or WOT, & have NoScript for Firefox stopping malicious content. But it seems excellent on system resources: I can have MSE updating & scanning in the background at the same time as checking e-mail, even downloading vids. (I just updated SuperAntiSpyware - excellent, but I couldn't even open a text file while it was checking for updates. No such worries with MSE).

  • But when i reboot notice the computer is super slow, cpu usage 100. notice the task mangr. running 3 CLI.exe processes, killed them @ got my cpu usage back...ran GMER nothing red showed up, but 1 "file" has a value of suspicious modification. not sure what to do now.. ???computer still is slow on startup, until i kill those processes, and not sure wht to do with the GMER log, since there wasnt anything red that appeared

  • dont kill it yet. Let gmer do it

  • I went to a website last night to check for some thing and i got a popup! I then checked my task manager and noticed acro32dr.exe (something) was running so I killed it. then I ran Super antispyware and sure enough found some malicious content on the computer. SUPER cleaned the infection and i then tried to update the data base. NO Can DO. ran Malware Byte which found nothing, also cant update. So installed Micro Security Ess, It got rid of 5 trojans. more.....below

  • Can you PM me the website so I can rate it on WOT?

  • To everyone who are fighting against infected PC:

A-squared forums are the way to success

  • To mrizos:

You don't have to click "Run as administrator", applications asks those elevated privileges automatically when they are executed by the normal doubleclick ;)

Only some very few small appllications still needs to be installed by using "Run as..." but those programs aren't exatly programmed to Vista/7.

  • I using bitdefender total security 2009 and so far its working good.

  • coool o.o

  • That's why I use Kaspersky Internet Security. About to upgrade to 2010 in a minute.

  • i had mse then changed to avira and avira detected 2700 viruses that mse didnt, mse sucks avira rulez

  • mse sucks, i had mse then changed to avira free and avira detected 2700 viruses that mse didnt, avira rulez mse sucks

  • Comment removed

  • @NeonXxXSurf

Damn hit the remove comment on accident. Anyhow, I hope you formatted and reinstalled after that detection by Avira. With that many infections you shouldn't even be allowed on the internet.

  • RIP OneCare!

  • no i did that and i got lot more virus on my window xp

  • A cliff hanger! Hahaha...love it.

Will MS Security Essentials turn out to be a fail or will it redeem itself in the next episode. Tune in.

  • *Waits for next video*

  • MSE doesn't lag which is why I love it!!

  • A Nasty Rootkit was present on the PC. If MSE is so good, why on Earth didn't it Detect it?! MSE is very good. It is NOT Excellent. Other apps would have found the Rootkit.

  • Anti viruses have problems with rootkits because they are somewhat new.

  • Rootkits themselves my be somewhat new, but MSE is VERY new itself. It's actually pretty good for a 1st year app, but it needs to be around for at least 2 more years before it's detection rate is on par with some of the better known AVs. MS is an OS Co primarily. Not a security Co. Users would be better off sticking with Avira, Avast, Drive Sentry, etc for Free Protection. I for one will NOT pay for KIS. The combo of Avast + Drive Sentry is MORE than equal to KIS. Msoft eats it.

  • Really? If you know anything about anti viruses Avast + Drive Sentry doesn't mix. You don't need two real time protection. It will just cause conflict.

  • VistaWizard: I wouldn't have said it if I hadn't already tried it. The two work fine together as long as you don't have Drive Sentry set to Trickle Updates automatically. And for goodness sake, YES YOU DO need two Real-Time apps running. Its called Layered security and is ESSENTIAL to keeping your PC clean. NEVER trust only 1 RT app. Most ppl get SAS or MBAM or Adaware as a backup to their main AV running in real time. NO AV is perfect. A backup is MANDATORY. Word!!

  • you can have how many AVS you want aslong as only 1 is on realtime scanning. correct?

  • @Idolpurist : Are you serious? YOU DON'T NEED 2 REAL TIME ANTIVIRUSES RUNNING. If you went to Matt's forums you would learn that 2 realtime antivirues are a big no no. It only causes conflict. Learn your stuff already.

  • You're right. You don't run 2 Real-Time AV's at the same time. However, you can run an AV + an Antimalware!! Matt has endorsed this MANY times. Antimalware apps are safe to run in real time alongside practically ANY AV. Millions of ppl do this. Matt has discussed this. Where you been? Drive Sentry is one of Matt's (and my) Fav apps. He already sed it is safe to run alongside your AV! I know cause I already do it. Layered security is a MUST for all PC users. Wake UP!!

  • @Idolpurist Oh my.... You sir are an idiot. You don't use 2 anti viruses on your computer. Matt doesn't use Drive Sentry. He uses MSE. Get your facts straight foo.

  • @vistawizard no offense, my friend, but idolpurist is in fact right. mse is not an av, it is a malware removal tool, just like malwarebytes and sas. it is ok to run mse with another antivirus.

  • @vistawizard No, actually I'm NOT. Matt has already stated that he uses Drive Sentry and nothing else on one of his PCs. That is how highly he regards Drive Sentry. Matt also said it is fine to run DS alongside your main AV. A main AV & a Real-Time Anti MALWARE are fine to run simultaneously. Drive Sentry is an exception as it is AV, AM, HIPS, etc. Still, it enhances a users main AV without conflict in most cases. You really aren't much of a Wizard.

  • @Idolpurist Okay, seriously? MATT DOES NOT USE DRIVE SENTRY. HE USES WINDOWS 7 64 BIT WITH MICROSOFT SECURITY ESSENTIALS. If you went to his forums then you would know.

  • Matt already stated on his 1st Drive Sentry video that he uses it on one of his PCs. That's how much faith he has in the product. To have such a comprehensive security app that is also FREE, is amazing. It is gaining in popularity both here and abroad. Still, one can pay for a backup Real-Time Antimalware if one wants to. SAS, MBAM, Asquared, Adaware, Webroot SpySweeper, SpywareDoctor, etc. All run alongside almost ANY AV without conflict.

  • @Idolpurist Okay, his Drive Sentry video was a LONG TIME AGO. I really could care less if you ran SAS, MBAM, ect in real time. I know that it does not conflict with your antivirus! Matt does NOT use Drive Sentry anymore.

  • I don't know if he uses it anymore or not. I know he Endorsed it's use and told all his followers how great the product was. He was right. It's fantastic.

  • hail norton 09-10

  • Avira is the best for me.. it blocked soooo much!

  • hail avira

  • Meh, while MSSE is really good...I'm sticking to Avira AntiVir.

  • does anyone know if you can run Norton AV with Microsoft Security Essentials or will they conflict with eachtoher?

  • yes, u can run them together just fine, but i think they'll start to conflict if they found the same virus/malware at the same time so i turn off MSE RTP & use it as an on demand scanner only while leaving norton RTP on...

  • i had the same popup problem but i dont bought this fake anti virus ;)

  • Very nice review Matt. MSE did well but I cannot wait for the next video. :)

  • WINDOWS LIVE ONE CARE PHAILED!!!!! THATS Y they CANCELLED IT!!

  • One thing i didn't like about Microsoft Security essential that it turns off and on every time i go to install something or a Game Launches and it freezes my Computer and make everything slow. But, It is a good program. Probably one of the best free one :D

  • I use MSE together with Avast. MSE itself is still not good enough.

  • your not supposed to use 2 antivirus

  • You CAN NOT use 2 real time protections. This will cause interferce and you will have less protection. Only use one

  • u can ..... malwarebytes has real time protection but it for sum reason doesnt conflict i have 3 running on my pc like s.a.s and malwarebytes

  • Why are you using windows classic theme?

  • He is using a virtual pc. And he doesn't need to look good .

  • what should i choose clean computer option or apply action wtf im confused whats the differnce any help plzz
