i clicked the article attached about our tax rate....i couln't find where it says we have the 2nd lowest effective coorporate tax rate....the effective tax rate graph shows us compared only to other G7 countries, and we're not even in 4th place. you're full of shit.

Controversial but numerous countries collect revenues with a VAT tax, a national sales tax running on the order of 20% instead of income tax. Governor Huckabee suggests the "Fair Tax" which seems like a VAT tax? There's entrenched interests who prefer our current IRS tax code to stay as is but are all these other countries mistaken? Shouldn't this debate start? No more taxation of income from any source but every cash register is a tax collector. Essentials could be exempted for poor folk.

You must be joking! OK, go to Google or Wikipedia, and search on "Value Added Tax". See a list of dozens of countries that use VAT as a source of income, both EU an non-EU countries. Time for an honest debate and I don't vote Republican or Libertarian.

The FairTax proposed by Governor Huckabee was to be a 23% sales tax to replace income taxes. Although VAT taxes do to a certain extent promote financial prudence (tax on expenses) it is unfair on the middle class, as the rich spend less as a percentage of income. I agree that the IRS system is flawed but a system where VAT taxes and a singular income tax would be simpler and more beneficial to the middle class.

Try explaining how Long Term Cap Gains and Qualified Dividends do NOT have any effect on 401Ks and IRAs. These instruments only get taxed at your Marginal Tax rate WHEN you start taking distributions in retirement. For those lucky enough to have extra money laying around to invest(the affluent), these special tax breaks only affect them, individually. How does this help help society or anyone besides themselves?

Excellent point David. People don't seem to realize that by its very definition: taxes, in and of itself, is redistribution of EVERYONE'S money! Of course, that's not an effective sound bite for the MC campaign.

You could also argue that everyone pays an effective federal tax rate when you add up corporate taxes (which you've dutifully noted), payroll taxes, excise taxes, and income taxes. So even poor people bear their fare share of the workload.
