Naturally, along with right to pick the pockets of the average taxpayer comes the duty to support the policies of the benefactor against the interests of the wider community. It's easy to see greens as just crazy idealists until you study what they do and say begin to understand that thier whole ideology is just based on greed, selfishness and the lust for power. The Green's introduction of the stakeholder mentallity into politics is a dangerous attack on democracy and community.
As opposed to the current system - where Harry Trigubof, owner of Meriton Apartments, provides hundreds of thousands of dollars to State and Federal Labor and Liberal parties, to make sure his once-in-three-year vote has a lot more clout than yours or mine. Ditto alcohol, tobacco, mining. How democratic do you think this country is now?
Read Scorcher by Clive Hamilton and find out just how undemocratic things are. Some of the things you raise may well be true, but I think you will find that the system itself is flawed and that compromise is the order of the day. It's just a matter of degree - and Labor and Liberal are both far more cynical than the greens.
This, besides being basically anti-democratic, threatens to replace the Australian concept of community as 'all the people' in favour of the Green concept of community -'people who agree with our values'. The classic example has been their use of thier power in the senate to advance the wine industry. They have even managed to create a whole new class of stakeholder who is largely dependant on government subsidy through tax-breaks.
Now you know why I hate them. You can see what is really important to them by looking at how they used thier balance of power in the senate. Bob and his posse of schoolmarm vigilantees done did some right fine horsetrading with his pal the deputy in that thar senate. No CTV for Tasmania but tax breaks so rich wine growers can take away more and more productive farmland from food production. That's why food prices just keep going up and up under Howard.
As for Tasmania, well there was a trial narrowcasting licence issued in Hobart years ago but it was handed back as they couldn't get enough people involved.
It comes down to having enough people involved to get it off the ground.
Oh and yes I am a loser and a sucker. I voted Green once. Our wonderful pollies voted themselves a 40% pay increase and the Greens promised to "see about that" after the election. I must have misinterpreted that, coz the day after the election they did a deal to keep the Liberal minority government in power, oh and sorted out new offices and cars for themselves at the same time. And kept the 40% which was obviously not enough.
Is youtube part of the media? Should political debate be censored? Check out my response video to SenatorBobBrown's censorship of comment on his videos.
Funny thing, we don't have CTV here and he's a Tasmanian senator. Then again as the Tas greens leader said, the 90% of Tasmanians who didn't vote green are scum who live in "dirty dark corners" and "stole" the state election. Sorry we dont guzzle wine so we are not part of the 10%community which deserve community TV.
this statement proves how much bullshit you are spinning. Senator Brown never said anything close to the crap you claim. show us the direct quotes if you can. otherwise climb back into your little hole.
You just do not get it that the Greens, while they have senators do not control the distribution of CTV licences. get a life loser.
Lol. You sound just like Peg Putt. Is that a "dirty dark" little hole? As I said the leader of Tas Greens, Peg Putt, said that. You can write to the Greens and ask for a transcript of her speech. They are sooo honest and open I'm sure they'll give you a copy. I only remember what I saw on ABC TV.
I suppose I should point out that community television has absolutely nothing to do with political parties. Community television has been fought for by people advocating and lobbying for it since the late eighties.
Both sides of government have never financially supported community television, the only support has been through access to analogue spectrum.
As it stands at the moment the sector has had nothing but empty promises in regard to access to digital spectrum for the last nine years.
