@flikkerzout You're thinking of EA Hockey, made by the same people, same engine, but no NHL license at all. NHL Hockey was only available in the US and Canada, EA Hockey was only available in the rest of the world.

This is NHL '92 (simply titled NHL Hockey). There is no '91 edition. The copyright year is always one year behind the name of the game (ie. NHL '94 was released in 1993).

@967evil A lot of people don't know the difference between NHL 93 and NHL 94. When they say that 94 was the best game they actually mean 93 but just don't realize it. 94 had no fighting at all, it sucked. You had fighters on the roster who couldn't fight, what was the point to them even being there? It was ridiculous. Why would you put a low skill level Stu Grimson on the ice if the game has made fighting not exist?

This was my favorite hockey game of all time. EA will never make a game as good as this. I only wish they had one-timers. Its great to play as the teams that don't exist anymore. I'll have to put the x-box away and fire up the Sega. Thanks for posting this.

In Europe there were no NHL teams, there were National Teams xD Even Portugal had a ice hockey team (something that never happened). Beside that this was one of the best games I've ever played. There is nothing like punching our neighboor in the face when you're winnig :)

Not only can you just slip the puck in the corner of the net without the goalie noticing, but if you play two player as teammates (as long as penalties are off) you can have one player knock the goalie out of the way and one player shoot the puck in the open net.

They play NHL 94 in Swingers, but the head bleeding doesn't occur in that one. It only occurs in NHL Hockey and maybe NHLPA 93.

Possibly the most fun game I've ever played. Only problem was my Megadrive was one of a bad batch that played some games in black and white. This game was one of em but I still loved it. Two player co-op was cool -- one of you take out the goalie, the other score.

Ah, that takes me back. I also had '94 for sega GAME GEAR, lmao, even more simplistic. There's this one move, going downscreen you jam your player against the left side boards right above the blue line - and then shoot, goes in every time. I would spam that move and win games 20 - 0!!!

@DaveSwayer You could only start a fight in NHL 92, for NHL 97 you have to have tough players on the ice and they would only fight at the start of the 2nd period, it was like some programmed setup where you can't fight until the 2nd period and you are only allowed to have that one fight.

Yeah I'd say '94 on Genesis was the best with having one timers and goalie control. I think it was '93 in Swingers since that game had the fighting and blood which '94 lacked. Either way both were great.

I still come back to NHL 94 all the time. Timeless game.
