I once experienced a 20 person chorus do something like this ... only they didn't ease into it. More like BAM! full volume. Scared the crap outa me at first, but what a wonderful experience to hear quality singers up close like that!
I went to the London A Cappella Festival the second weekend in January (2012), and had the privilege of spending time with these lovely people. I also spent quite a bit of time on the tube. It seemed like at least half the riders had earbuds, and each was lost in his or her own world of sound. It looks like the guy with the white shirt and glasses was oblivious to this whole performance. Hope and trust one of his friends saw this, and called his attention to it.
There is no way that the live sound quality in the train carriage when they shot these visuals can have been this good! No wonder the singers have all got their ear-plugs in - so they can over-dub it with their studio recording later. Nice fantasy though...
@leoleoleo7859 I bet it was still awesome. They could have been a quarter as good as the studio recording and still would have blown my mind on the subway.
@leoleoleo7859 I can assure you there was no studio recording! The singing is all live - the ear buds were just to give us our starting cue so that we could all just trickle in! We were not amplified but had mics stuck to our collars (flesh coloured) so that on the recording our voices could be heard over the racket of the train! You can actually see our sound engineer from 0:37 - 39 who was comping it together. He then adjusted some levels later before we posted the video. :-)
Oh god it's amazing. Imagine it's on your way home after a long day or just got up from the bed and on your way to work, then you hear something like this on the train, how relax and comfortable.
sadly the video the didnt show was from the next carrage where one of the singers had gotten in by mistake, 30 sec into the song he was beaten to death by 4 chavs with pit-bulls.... listen carefuly at 1:05 you can hear his screams.. poor Tarquin he will bee missed by the group.. HOWEVER this has opened up a place in the group for a tennor or alto who can sing "mmm ss mmm ss" similar to the noise made by Tarquin's life support in hospital that has yet to be switched off....
You guys are awesome! Any chance you're touring the US sometime soon?
Also, I'm pretty sure I have a CD of Faure's Requiem performed by Kings College that features Richard as a soloist... a treble soloist! I can't find it to confirm, but the name sounds really familiar.
