Doom 1 definitely has the retro horror, morbidness to it. I played it back in the early 90s and it scared the shit out of me. Playing it today it doesn't "scare me" per se, but I still find it incredibly eerie and sadistic.

If you guys actually played it correctly and cared about saving your progress, it would be scary. With nothing on the line you can dick around and then move on to the next game. The first 15 min of any game is not going to scare someone, that's like expecting Jason to kill all the kids before the title card.
