Well, I'm glad this isn't the new Van Halen. Egads!
Just the same, I don't know how anyone was fooled. That guitar sounds nothing like Eddie's tone. This is like cheap beer compared to Ed's fine champagne.
I feel like Dave is trying to sing to high for his range. His voice sounds like it is maxed out at the top of his range most of the time. If you listen to all of the early VH albums his voice is lower and more relaxed unless he is doing his screams.
I came here never hearing this song and only now reading the debunked "Late Term" rumors. It's clear within the first drumbeat, it's aint Van Halen of any variety. No Van Halen real fan would confuse this okay tune for Van Halen music.Respond to this video...
@drummerlovelace without david ed and alex wouldn't have carried on successfully dave helped bring them to the top...and another thing dave is not van halen? well answer me this than how come when dave left the band he brought the van halen sound with him and ed dropped it and created a new one
@motleycrue24 ed didn't "create" a new one. ed was in the process of creating the sound. 5150 was the logical continuation of the band's sound after 1984 with eddie in the driver's seat. both those albums have an extremely similar sound to them. dlr just wanted people that sounded like evh to try and cash in on his earlier sound.
@alpha1shadow yes ed was in the process of creating a new one and he did CREATE A new one...if you listen to alot of daves solo stuff which i have most songs sound nothing like the early stuff just like paradise, big trouble, and ladies night in buffalo just to name a few which i meant is dave brought the rock n roll with him and ed brought power ballads and synth rock to his listen to daves your filthy little mouth theres nothing van halen about it
@motleycrue24 i see what your saying but at the same time, listen to this. this sounds so much like van halen that people are saying it's a song off the new album. that's why i came to listen to the song, because VHND told me that it was actually "Counter-Blast" by Van Halen. He tried to copy the sound. evh wrote all the original van halen songs. Romeo Delight, I'm the One, and the rest of them were his ideas. dave just wrote lyrics.
@alpha1shadow he didn't just write the lyrics he also wrote the melody's the lyrics and melody are just as important as the instrumentals...its like when Sammy moved into van halen he took his sound with him.....when you find a sound that works for you you stick to it...like when ozzy left Sabbath he still brought over the same idea what he was doing in Sabbath but he built on it exactly what Dave did listen to all of Dave's solo albums and you might change your mind....
@motleycrue24 in hard rock they aren't. in any case dlr has no range so how much melody could he possibly contribute. if you're talking about sammy then that's different because sammy can sing his ass off even though he's boring. he found what worked with his old band and was trying to stick with it, except you're talking about eddie van halen, someone who could be copied but never emulated.
@motleycrue24 they aren't really that great. dave isn't a great singer. great singers are freddie mercury, robert plant, and the like. dave is entertaining as hell. that's what he innovated in. he put on a show that no one could match, and that's what made him famous. any records that he's done have only sold because of the show (or in the case of van halen sheer curiosity at what eddie van halen was gonna do next).
@alpha1shadow dave was a great show man i never said he was a great singer i just said its awesome how he really didnt have much of a range but came up with great melodys the dude wrote the lyrics and melodys to jump in 15 min in the backseat of his car which he explained in his bio plus he wrote great melodys in ill wait and the album and the single went number one for being just a show man he really did hell of alot of top notch work
@motleycrue24 that change in sound has nothing to do with it though. everyone in the band has said that he wrote most of the stuff. he got the ball rolling on all the songs.
@alpha1shadow I thought there was more difference between Ed's sound on 1984 and 5150 than between any other points. It's interesting because he was still using the Frank, (for most songs), but I thought it sounded a lot different on 5150. Came here today because the VHND.com is reporting that people think this is the new valen halen single off the new album. If you're a VH fan and haven't been checking in at VHND you should. The Mighty Van Halen is BACK!!!!
@LightUptheSky000 He used a Soldano Super Lead Overdrive on them. It's more noticeable on 1984than on 5150 but it sounds exactly like a soldano circuit. even the jca100h from jet city amplification that has a soldano designed circuit in it sounds a lot like what eddie's sound was on both those albums.
cant say dlr band is better than Van Halen!!! its a rockin tight band but Van Halen is where it started! the musicains in this band probably learned from Van Halen!
Im afraid the reason he didnt make it on his own are his Hair fell out and his voice quit working at the weirdest times. I respect and revere DLRoth but his chops can be flaky, But hey hes still the king
Your right it is a great record never said it wasn't and a lot of it has to do with John 5 guitar playing on the record. Im a huge Dave fan but I feel Im right. And by the way Im Speakker bitch.
who is john 5? all i know is i like the only dlr records that try to ape van halen. this one here is really underrated u are right about the dave yelps being left out . they do show the damage, but i support the jerk. i hate the other records , like the bluegrass shit and yer filthy,
Boy I am glad I never bought this cd back when I was thinking about it lol IT SUCKS!!!!!

@TampaRed Exactly, this cannot be mistaken for EVH. This guitar sounds like something Zakk Wylde would do; all syrupy and sappy sounding.

@alpha1shadow that makes no sense you dont have to have a good range to write a melody
motleycrue24 6 months ago
@motleycrue24 the more range you have, the more notes you have to pick from.
alpha1shadow 6 months ago
@alpha1shadow ya well i guess dave had less to work with and still made great melodys what a great innovator

@motleycrue24 dave didn't even want jump or i'll wait on the album because evh played keyboard on those tracks.

@alpha1shadow i never said he didnt but he still contributed to the songs
motleycrue24 6 months ago
@motleycrue24 he did. but he's not the backbone of their sound.
alpha1shadow 6 months ago
@alpha1shadow on the classic vh stuff he was in imo seemingly how ed changed when sam joined
motleycrue24 6 months ago
@motleycrue24 that change in sound has nothing to do with it though. everyone in the band has said that he wrote most of the stuff. he got the ball rolling on all the songs.

@alpha1shadow i disagree i believe ed was motivated to structure songs in a certain way when dave was around
