To be more precise, Farkle, Keiji Inafune was the original creator of the Megaman X series, and yes, it was supposed to originally end by X5. But since Capcom was short on money at some point in time, they eventually made X6 without Inafune's permission.

I am not sure; that might have been mentioned in like X5-X8; which are games that I haven't played (sadly). But yes, that's most likely. That's the method that has been done for the most part, but it's also capable to sort of "protect" or "cleanse" the virus, which is why Zero sealed himself in X5 due to the Maverick Virus (which IIRC, is the same thing as the Sigma Virus.) If the Maverick/Sigma Virus was still abundant while Zero was hibernating, then yes, it would.

As for the Mother Elf...

I believe it WAS used, as X did seal it after the Elf Wars, using his own body as the seal. He used it to end the Maverick Wars, and the Elf Wars (against Omega), then sealed it with his body. However, it did not end the virus altogether, since there were still "mavericks" in the Zero timeline. So technically, yes, X WAS fighting while Zero was hibernating. This was the point when humanity was in turmoil, and X and Zero created Neo Arcadia, a human society sanctuary.

X5 was flawless, The ending was perfect, Sigma was finally defeated for good and Sigma Reveals wily was the villian helping him etc, Zero's origins and the virus origins are finally revealed, Zero finally goes maverick like he was hinted to go maverick since X3 when it says in the credits "One thing is certain, to save mankind X must destroy Zero" Not to mention the credits had the saddest but most awesome song in the entire Series. Greatest ending ever. Then X6 comes along and ruins that ending

It's great, I agree... though I personally liked X6 too, mainly 'cause I like Zero even more than I do X and hated seeing him die... There is one problem with X5, though, and that's continuity; the Megaman Zero series simply doesn't work if Zero dies after X5 instead of being sealed away after X6.

For most of the MegaMan X games, I found them just too simple. Every stage could be beaten easily by just the X-Buster or normal Z-Saber attacks. X6 provided a nice challenge and usefulness to the new weapons gained.

Hm... I'll have to keep that in mind when I get around to replaying my copy... right now it's in the shop being resurfaced because I've had it almost as long as I've had my PSX and it's had the crap kicked out of it. The guy thinks he can get it functional again though.

I personally LOVED all of Zero's attack techniques though. I do admit to rarely caring about Gaia armor's inability to use weapons, but most of 'em aren't so good anyway.
