  • wasnt the car suppose to stay on for turbo timer? and stuff i have a friend that has a lancer eveo that turbo and it stays on for a min or two cause of his turbo?

  • Hi, with this zetec turbo, what are your output figures? Is this a 16v head? I was thinking of starting a conversion, but my mates keep telling me to keep the CVH head, and put a ford galaxy big end on it?!?!?

    I used a cvh head for a bit wish i hadnt of bothered.

    I just bought a set of 15" steel wheels for my mk3 but they wont fit; the offset is wrong, ET41 I think, I have some 14" steels that fit, I cant find the offset of those but there is a 10mm difference and the 15" rub on the shocks up front.

    what is the max size rims etc for the mk3?

  • Many recommend letting the engine idle for 1-3 minutes before shutting off the engine if the turbocharger was used shortly before stopping (most manufacturers specify a 10-second idle period before switching off to ensure the turbocharger is running at idle speed to prevent damage to the bearings when the oil supply is cut off).

    I didn't see any revving, think they are just mad yours works and theirs doesn't. lol

  • Turbo timers are a good safety net.

  • - if the oil wasn't kept moving until the temps had dropped a little . Modern quality oils cope much better. In the 80s many bog standard oils couldn't even cope with N/A engines hence all the problems with black death. Apart from anything look how hard a multi drop van drivers rags a turbo diesel and how often its instantly switched off and they don't have any problems. Crap oil, do a track day and then instantly switch it off when you get back in the pit then you'll have a problem.

  • I'm curious as to how all the angry comments got started!? All i see in this video is an engine idling and then being switched off and a turbo slowing down. How can anyone tell that he was ragging the crap out of it before it was switched off. For a start although it isn't good to switch the engine off straight after hard use most of the worry people now have came from years back because older oils just weren't up to it and would go nasty in the turbo -

  • My mate fucked the turbo on his pulsar coz he was to lazy to let the thing time down after ragging the shit out of it, after turning the key off imediatly after stopping, the turbo kept going at the same speed but obviously had no lube to it, it ground down the compressor when there was nothing left of the bearing xD

  • he is right about the A/F ratio being a killer of anything the exhaust goes through, the same reason motorcycle pipes turn blue from bad a/f. lots of air+not enough fuel= lean and lean=hot and hot=bad for turbo

  • it doesnt take much to ruin a turbine guys, its a delicate hunk of metal with a super HIGH running temp. treat as if it was worth 1mill $, and spend a mill $ on your tune and a SAFC, if you have to. go full piggy back if you can! the real way of saving turbos are turbo timers and your AIR TO FUEL!!! i guarantee that the #1 killer of turbos is the A/F ratio!!

  • LOL? what the fuck are you talking about? the a/f ratio has nothing to do with the turbo.. oil starvation is the number one killer of turbos.. now if we were talking engines.. then yes a/f ratio would be the number one killer of an ENGINE

  • you kinda right but i'd say about 30-40% combustion temperature depends on A/F ratio also the #1 killer of turbos people who don't know how to tune and set timing because another 40-50% depends on timing adjustments 10-15% in the oil used and up to 5% on the fuel used, correct me if i am wrong...

    the turbo is cooled with engine oil and when you turn the engine off, the turbo would not be cooled and the turbo goes about 100'000 rpm when you hear it. so you can imagine ...

  • Your the WANKER. who thinks he knows everything about engines and knows nothing... This is normal, all turbos do it when you turn the engine off. Ball Bearing Turbos do it for longer, and dont require as much oil as a floating bearing. and yeh it lasts ive had it for over 6 years.

  • Lol. It is possible, not recommended as the components in that engine won't be able to handle the boost from the turbo.

  • For BAL bearing turbo setups, best option is one external oil pump, after you turn engine of you start oil pump for one min. or longer to cool turbo off, and you can use the pump before you start the engine to pump oil to bearings

  • A Turbo Timer wouldnt make any difference. This has been idleing for more than 30 seconds. This is what ball bring turbos do, see other videos. Normal turbos still spin after a turbo timer engine cut off. And they need hardly any oil compared to normal turbo, so oil starvation is not an issue. It has plenty enough still in it from when engine was running.

  • Yes standard fiesta turbos are cvh engines. The turbo sits just under the bonnet, with space for a large stainless steel filter under the front wing, and yes has been known to suck small dogs off the street :-)

    The ERST and FRST are both CVH 1.6 8 valve SOHC engines. The escort is MFI, the fiesta is EFI which is smoother delivery on boost and more reliable. This is a Zetec turbo swap. And the filter would normally be on, this is just for the vid i assume. No one would go around without a filter, same as throttle bodies - no one would leave the socks off unless they're stupid.

    And this DOES NOT damage the turbo - it happens whenever the engine is switched off, its called freewheelin

  • Good observation but the compressor outlet is connected. The bolts are there, they just dont go right up to the top of the thread.

  • that is turbo spool down after the engine has been idling. Turbos always spin for a bit after the engine is turned off, ball bearing ones spin for a bit longer.
