only real problem ive see with VW's and 13B's etc is the gear box's dont like high rev's its great fun but man do they chew gear box's

the peak is at 4500 i beleive, but even a car that makes 1000 hp at 9000 rpm will make a little over 550 ft pound at the same rpm, while a 1000 hp at 5000 rpm will make over 1000 foot pound at the same 5000 rpm, its just the way the math works out

horse power is rpm x torque / 5225 ( i think its 5225 or so)

even a horse has been known to put out almost 15 hp at times :)

its the nature of an engine, anything that will rev to 9000 while making useful power, will not have any usable torque down low.

kinda sorta, either way you will end up with either a mid range engine, that has decent torque and high end, or either or.

you will get more of both, but still an engine usually leans toward either on, unless it has magnetic valves, which can give the best of both worlds

then you dont understand the comcept of a turbo..... i have a ls/vtec that has a 9k rev limit with a t3/t4 setup and i've got pretty decent torque i might add.....

obviously a turbo can make torque... considering 90% of diesel have them....

might be torque for a 1.8 but that is not saying much

now lets just say for easy math you have 500 hp at 8000 rpm... that means you would have roughly 300 ft pounds at the same rpm...

i have a 200 hp truck that has 300 ft pounds...

@ukrarex 10k? you for sure never heard that a stock (!) 13b-msp would do 12k... of course they are limited to 9k because on a stock car the engine HAS to last for at least 100k-miles plus it doesn't really make more power from 9 to 12k-rpm because of the ports, injection, exhaust...
