They got the green light to engage b/c there were three men armed, Armed men walking through the streets in a warzone, especially with an RPG definetely makes u a target b/c the only reason u have that weapon is to destroy vehicles, not for self defense. Choppers don't have x-ray vision, the pilots had no way of knowing what was in the van. It's a combat theater; what's the ratio of video cameras to rifles? If it looks like a weapon, don't take the chance of thinking it isn't. Also, the pilots requested and were given permission to engage, so what's the problem? Journalists need to understand the importance of know whose side they're on and making their presence known to friendlies.
Don't bring children into a fucking warzone, and journalists should know that they are at risk of getting shot at, if they go into a combat zone. It happens.

@Icix1 Dude, that's what I've been trying to get these liberal douche bags to understand for a long time. The guys on the ground ended up finding RPGs on these guys! You can clearly see men holding AKs; and if you're armed, walking through the streets of Iraq, you're a target. Infantry had taken fire nearby and called in the airstrike, & these guys just happen to be standing around with AKs, they prolly thought they were out of range but didnt know the Apache could shoot from two miles away lol

Nah they definitely have weapons. The journalist hired local militants to protect him while he did his stories. When our helis saw the group they assumed they were insurgents. You can CLEARLY see weapons in their hands at the start of the video. Weapons were found on the scene of the crime. It was very obvious they had weapons.

As far as the children that were wounded go, I dont blame the pilots because they didnt actively engage the unarmed children. It is the fault of the insurgents for bringing their children along for a ride while they had armed men. Dont blame the soldiers for the casualties of this war, blame congress for giving Bush the greenlight to go in without the foresight to see how big of a mess we put our selves in. Putting all of your liberal/conservative bias aside; these pilots acted within their perimeters. They got the green light to engage b/c there were three men armed, Armed men walking through the streets in a warzone, especially with an RPG definetely makes u a target b/c the only reason u have that weapon is to destroy vehicles, not for self defense. That makes them enemy combatants, end of story.

Why dont you do some research before believing the 'title of a video' at face value. The men were armed for certain, the facts state that it was inconclusive if they did have RPGs or not. What is certain is these men were armed with AKs. They are clearly visible.

@ncampbell01 Dude. I watched the video twice. I counted 10 men, and I didn't see any weapons on any of them. The soldiers speaking told their higher-ups that they were watching 8 people with weapons, not 10 guys, one or two of whom might possibly be carrying weapons. At no point did they mention that most of them were clearly not carrying weapons.

The official account of the event states that Bravo Comp. 2-16, the ground troops that moved in following the airstrike, found 2 RPGs & 2 AKs at the scene. The video does not show this, Why? That portion of the video was erased by Bradley Manning, a soldier that was court-martialed for releasing this classified video to wikileaks

@wotsgonon1 Err... Those two words apply to completely different subjects related to this video. The videos shot from within a cockpit of a military aircraft are "classified". They do film these exercises for future training and/or possible criminal investigations; with no charges being brought against these pilots. Bravo Comp. the soldiers on the ground following the strike, provided "testimonial" evidence to army investigators they found RPGs and AKs at the scene of this incident.

Well if you didnt know, it is perfectly legal to own a fully automatic AK in Iraq. So why would these evil men attack perfectly law abiding citizens? Look at the context of the situation: Ground forces took small arms fire AND Rpg attacks nearby. The Apaches were brought in for fire support, they see a group of men holding firearms, and pointing long black object on their shoulders towards their aircraft. As a pilot, wouldnt that be perfectly justifiable to engage??? I believe so

Yeah it is a little tacky to here them talking like that, but i imagine i would be in that same sort of mind set in that situation. War is ugly, but these pilots did everything by the book and were totally professional with their operation. Many other nations and their militaries would have never even bothered to get the green light to light up those targets. These guys really did nothing wrong and acted within their perimeters.

Choppers don't have x-ray vision, the pilots had no way of knowing what was in the van. It's a combat theater; what's the ratio of video cameras to rifles? If it looks like a weapon, don't take the chance of thinking it isn't. Also, the pilots requested and were given permission to engage, so what's the problem? Journalists need to understand the importance of know whose side they're on and making their presence known to friendlies.
