  • She could have been saved if someone could give a heart and save this young beautiful lady.... R.I.P. Sylvia<3

    Your in my heart hun.

  • Sylvia didn't suffer any of sexual abuse.. :) The ellen page movie version is much better than girl next door.

  • Rip Sylvia Likens.

  • how can people possibly give such a pain to a 16 yrs old little girl dont they fear god ?

  • The bottle wasn't put in her rectum, it was put in her vagina. She wasn't always kept in the basement. She was just mainly forced to sleep there. She wasn't found dead in the basement, it was in one of the upstairs bedrooms. The children didn't strip her of her clothes. The Girl Next Door is way too loosely based on what really happened. It was pretty much only accurate in the fact that she was beaten and put in a basement. Although it's sugar coated, An American Crime is much more accurate.

  • very nice tribute greenwallsRcool! this is a very sad story of sylvia likens. burn in hell gertrude baniszewski.

  • The father of Sylvia and jenny was negligent. He just left his two daughters in a house with too many children and in bad condition. I would never have allowed my child to live one day in this environment let alone for months. I mean they only had 1 spoon for the entire house hold. They took turns using this spoon to eat. They also didn't hav eenough to eat. on top of that i don't think he even visited once to check on how they were doing. thats bad parenting.

  • this is so sad and i watched an american crime and this and the movie made me cry

r.i.p sylvia we love you and we are thinking of you

  • My dad thinks that the parents of Sylvia Likens should have been charged with accomplice to murder because they left their kids with someone they just met, i don't agree with that part, but I do believe the parents should have a neglect charges against them

  • @princess8379 Yes, the parents did wrong, but I think that the lost of their daughter is enough suffering, dont you think?

  • Rest in Peace.

  • Почему тебя не спасли, Сильвия? Не могу сдержать слёз

  • may sylvia find more peace in the after life than she did in this one

  • i just heared about this story on deadly women. then saw the link on youtube to the movie "American crime" and i have never cried so much to a movie. (course i dont watch alot of sad movies but still) your video was very beautiful its sad that its a true story.

  • Poor Sylvia R.I.P

  • Thank you for such a thoughtful video. It just makes me burn with rage... but one thing is sure: now the whole world knows what had been done to Slyvia. Even here in the middle of Europe. Nomatter where "saint" John Baniszewski hides now, or the Baniszewski daughters, they are destined to a lifetime of shame and disgust from every sane person! They do know that normal people get sickened at what they did. And will never be forgiven by the society nomatter what. Sylvia, may you rest in peace.

  • @spartiataeos , John is dead, he died a few years ago. He spent the rest of his life trying to help others, and he deeply regretted his part in what happened to Sylvia. I'm not sure what the others are up to (the ones that are still living) and we don't know how they feel or what they live with. To be honest, the society at the time was partly to blame for what happened, since in that era abuse was underreported, people didn't blink when stuff like that happened. It's not like it is today.

  • Sad part is that in front of Benizewski house an officer lived. Even once Jenny was working there (raked leaves). The ignorance of Sylvia's abuse by her sister was such shameful. Even if I'd need to risk my life for my family, I'd do that in a heartbeat, meanwhile Jenny had whol two weeks freely at school, after school to tell about this. Though we can't blame her much, parents didn't spend much time with their kids and their education was very limited so.

  • Rest in Peace, Beautiful Sylvia. May the beauty of Heaven and God's love heal all your wounds and surpass the worst of the horror that happened to you in this very imperfect world. We love and miss you and our hearts go out to you from this side.

  • RIP Sylvia.

  • We Miss You, Sylvia And Jenny. I know you'r both gone But (YOU 2 Did Nothing Nothing Wrong), I Hope When God Is Ready For Me. I See The Both Of You In HEAVEN :)S I Agree with, Sylvia762 I Wish I Could To, To Protect Them From This Any Kid From This I Agree, Also With jacoj21 / jewishcraberrysauce I Liked The Movie, Even Though It Was Sad And Rude
  • dumb movie.

  • I hope that bitch Gertrude is chocking on the devil's dick in hell.

  • R.I.P sweet child

  • You did a great job on this tribute to Sylvia Likens...

  • One of the most brave 16 year old girls EVER! Rest in peace, Sylvia.

  • The girl next door was based on Jack Ketchum's book of the same name, which was based on Sylvia Likens. I have seen both An American Crime and The Girl Next Door, both of which upset me a lot. How can anyone seriously think that she deserved any of that?! I hope Gertrude is burning in hell for everything she did. No one deserves that kind of abuse. RIP Sylvia, atleast you are in a better place now

  • Hey, honestly were they both based on the true events? What I mean is I saw 'An American Crime' afew months ago and it broke my heart. Mostly cause it was true. Then recently I saw 'The Girl Next Door' and Saw that there were similarities between the two. What I am asking is, was 'The Girl Next Door' also based on Sylvia Likens? Sorry if I sound ignorent.

  • @chelseybabyyy 'The Girl Next Door' is loosely based on Sylvia's story and 'An American Crime' is closer to what actually happened to poor Sylvia, may she rest in peace.

  • @jewishcraberrysauce

I know, I figured it out. Googled it like crazy.

Yeah 'An American Crime' was the true-er version, as you could say.

'The Girl Next Door' was much more dark, but the fact that 'An American Crime' shows the truth I found it more heart breaking. But I guess in the end, they both shed tears.

  • Jehovah wont forget you Sylvia

  • are you retarded you're coping a movie's story line that isn't all true and you are saying things differently get your facts right before making things like this

  • neighbors heard her screams, but they did nothing?????????????

  • @sapphiretwilight1 well I wouldn't say that...Sylvia was also white, and I'm sure there were plenty of African American or Hispanic kids also helping with the beatings.

  • not true crap lies

  • @spanker48 this is all true. it's a true story from in th e1950's.

  • I find it ironic that Gertrude died of lung cancer, and I also think that's karma! Poor Sylvia R.I.P.!!

  • i saw an american crime. ill watch the girl next door. its the second one the true story or is just based in the crime? because i see the trailer and its difference to the american crime

  • @tweetynb a girl next door is based on the crime, an american crime is the true story of what happened. Jack Ketchum wrote the book The Girl Next Door and based it upon the events that Sylvia went through.

  • Ok i understand the gertude was sick and evil but wth was wrong with those neighborhood kids and her children? Like that is the part i dont get. How could they have done that?

  • @funon14 Back then they really didn't have many child abuse laws, so I imagine they saw the fun out of it like people today see fun in bullying and beating people.

  • whats a court transcript?

  • @narutotentensasuke you know when (usually a lady) sits in the court room and is typing real fast? shes typing what everyone is saying so people cant lie later on and say that "i never said that" so for the movie scene in court they used the actual script of what was said the day of the actual trial.

  • That's sadder than sad, I feel so sorry for her.

Those fucking kids and that woman who hurt and abused, and forced her to do things.

If I was alive then I would probably find them and do stuff so horrible you couldn't imagine and torture them.

  • i watched the girl next door and i felt pain it must have been so scary

    and poor Meg

the police officer should have said well ill stay here till i see the girls because meg wouldn't have died

  • @labradoodless her name was Sylvia.

  • @labradoodless her name was Sylvia in real life.

  • I think the sister of sylvia is a stupid, you dont think?

  • @PsicologoAsesino It's cause she was scared but yeah if I was her I would call my parents or go save sylvia.Thats all I got to say!!

  • @PsicologoAsesino well you can't really blame her she was scared of what would happen to her...

  • @PsicologoAsesino definetely not. She had Polio, so she had a weakness in spite of all the beating, and she knew if she told that somehow she'd get the same treatment. In the moment, she was terrified.

  • so sad

  • May her soul find the right path to freedom from all suffering forever. Anyone who supports today's commercial sex industries or violence are no different than the evil women who tortured a young girl in any way unthinkable, unimaginable will support this wrong deeds the same. May all sentient beings be happy and find the gateway to freedom of suffering!

  • I've watched this film with my BF first we thought it was related with "The girl next door 1" but the story was different so far because it was Sylvia Likens's story which is sad but true. This song is really suit to her story :(

  • what movies portray this ... i saw american crime. whats the other one?

  • @AJohnn91 The girl next door.

  • @AJohnn91 An American Crime is the true story of Sylvia. The Girl Next Door is based on Jack Ketchum's book that he wrote based on the events that Sylvia was put through.

  • if i were 2 go back in time i would have spoken 2 her rite after church so she wouldnt have met the little girls so she would have gone 2 the house so her dad wouldnt have met gertroll so she wouldnt have stayed at the house & this all wouldnt have happened i just saw the movie today

  • @zazoupl but think about it; if Sylvia had not been tortured to death, we would be free of child abuse laws. Basically, her death kind of made this world better, because people actually began thinking about things like that!

  • @1XxXTwilightFanXxX1 you are smart

  • @zazoupl thanks:)

  • @1XxXTwilightFanXxX1 your welcome team jacob or edward or jacward

  • that nasty bitch gertrude woman looks like an alien.

  • @hinckleh thats an insult 2 all aliens even they dnt look that bad some r pretty cute

  • Sylvia was so cute. May she rest in peace.

  • I feel like crying big time now. How can any human being do something this horrible to an innocent young girl such as Sylvia? I wish I could go back in time and tell Sylvia and Jenny not to have anything to do with that evil bitch of a woman and her family. :( RIP Sylvia. May you be flying with the angels honey.

  • @ashvegas1018 I'm assuming if Gertrude were on proper medication and could afford going to a doctor she would've had the sense not to do this to Sylvia, but she didn't.

  • i cried during this this is just horrible

  • Meaningful video with a good message, but the poor spelling greatly detracts from the moral. It could have been much harder hitting if spell check had been employed.

  • an american crime wasnt very graphic at all the was no nudity like two drops of blood and those actors where WAY to pretty to play paula and gertrude b...what ever the heck (honestly i don't care i only bother to remember the names of friendly things not demons the power of christ compels me that means stay away the b ...what the rest is family) oh yea and the girl next door made her death WAY worse

  • If I had a time machine, I would go before Sylvia and Jenny even stayed a gertrudes house to prevent ANY pain that would b inflicted on them.

  • I don't have a time machine but I was in Indiana at the time, in fact I passed a few miles from the house where she was being tortured. Nobody knew but her neighbours and the torturers themselves. Sad, sad case !!

  • @Sylvia762 But then we wouldn't have any child abuse laws.

  • personally, i'm not religious, but i still feel that i have a right to say that gertrude should burn in hell, sylvia was innocent and thus went to heaven, and those who turn a blind eye are equally at fault.

  • I was nearly sick watching this. Fucking scum

  • Sylvia Marie Likens, Rest In Peace. You did not deserve to die. She did no wrong. She was innocent. This beautiful young Girl did not deseve any of the torture pain or abuse that was inflicted on Her. gertrude neibors and anyone else that harmed Sylvia, GO TO HELL. gertrude is the devil. I know everything about this case. VERY nice video. even though there were some errors, people get into the feeling veery well. I love Sylvia. She did no harm. She was a graet Child have a graet tim in Heaven

  • I'm so sorry about what happened to you, Sylvia. You were a beautiful and very special young girl who certainly didn't deserve any of it. R.I.P and may God hold you lovingly and gently.

  • hummm OK .here are the real facts.sylvia was forced to put a coke bottle in her vagina not her rectum.and she died of bleeding in the brain, malnutrition and and open wounds and sores.and and she died in the bathtub, and the other girls placed her on the bed after she was dead....she did not die in the basement or on the mattress.a story like this that should be told .should be told THE RIGHT WAY.with correct facts...

  • While the real facts are important, I think you are missing the forest for the trees. It's still a very nice tribute, one that is clearly from the heart. Yes, at the end of the day the story deserves to be remembered as it happened, for the sake of the young girl. But in terms of this effort, the author did exactly what he or she should do and I certainly wouldn't want to be critical of that wonderful effort based on a few logistical errors or spelling errors. Focus, people.

  • slpsms.. what you say is very true. and the tribute is thoughtfull.i have a very close connection with this case. so much so that i can tell you that i was personally in court for gertrude and all of the kids trials..if this was about your child you would want the facts to be correct i assume? the truth is many..many other facts were never disclosed.adn things like this should never happen to anyone ever again.very nice greenwallsRcool. R.I.P SYLVIA.

  • Sylvia had to sleep on a mattress soaked with urine.

On the day Sylvia died, Paula took a bottle to the basement, urinated in the bottle and took it upstairs and forced Sylvia to drink it.

This family were scum of scum !!

  • those NEIGHBORS were JUST as GUILTY for turning their heads & shutting the ears.

  • @AWOLFNAMEMARTI Thats because the neighbors were hillbilly trash. They should have closed their thighs as well as their ears, thereby being unable to reproduce.

  • i would have gave my life for her to get free

  • If you find a time machine, let me know.

  • @Linguist1967

Great idea! That's what's so frusturating about this. No matter how much we honor and feel for Sylvia now, it doesn't change what happened to her before. I'm sure she appreciates it from the other side, but if only we could help her in THIS life and in THIS world. AND WE CAN'T.

  • @aqboi12 me too.. i would of give my life just to help her!!! And the worst the neighbors never did something... damn fucken peopleee..

  • you really should spell check before you post a tribute to something this sombre

that aside, gertrude and her little brats can all go to hell

  • Allegedly, Gertrude was remorseful about what she and her clan did to this poor girl, but I doubt that completely! Her only wake up call was that she didn't get away with it! She was an evil, self pitying, narcissistic bully!! As was her daughter too! Have fun in Hell bitches!

  • It is possible that she became more remorseful as years went by. Her total ignorance and un-education were the reason why she could tell right from wrong but as she went to prison, as years passed, she was made to understand what she had done.

  • If that were my daughter, all of them would have been run through a meat grinder, feet first.

  • ...and after we shoved a large lit Havana cigar up their anuses.

  • ... videoed it for You Tube, LOL....

  • gertrude and that cunt paula burn in hell.

Im sorry for using the C word but its true.

  • i read jack ketchums the girl next door it was really disturbing what they did to her

  • Sylvia was such a beautiful girl. I remember first reading about this 25 years ago in the book "Bloodletters & Bad Men" and this was one of the cases that touched me the most. Until the film "An American Crime", I had not heard anything more about it and I have always thought it would be such a shame for this poor beautiful girl to be forgotten in death as she was in life. THX for posting this. I am so glad people still remember her, if only they had done so B4 she died. Memory Eternal Sylvia!

  • my grandmother knew sylvia, she says "RIP old friend"

  • dang i jus watched the girl next door and i didnt kno it was like that i wish it was somethin i couldve done for her man i would never watch this again and i never saw americn crime that.....that aunt and her kids and anybody that hurt them girls need to ROT N HELLL!!!!!

  • i was really disturbed bout sylvia's suffering.. i have sleepless night thinking...why someone didn't help her..poor girl..she's young...=(

  • Hey Gertrude, if you feel that you are holier than someone, and you torture them to death... you aren't.

  • she's already dead.. hope she'll burn in hell..

  • I know, she died of cancer. When I first heard about this story I hoped that Gertrude would get a taste of her own medicine. But the idea of torturing anybody, even her, makes me sick. It's too bad you can't just flush people like that down a big toilet and make them go away.

  • @jammardhee who r u taking about that ugly lady or sylvia likens

  • @estelaholguin100 of course the old bitch Gertie

  • RIP Sylvia Likens you'll never be forgotten, you sweet beautiful girl (You didn't need to deserve this)

    and Gertrude BURN IN HELL

  • It's time for someone to make a video tribute to Sylvia Likens in which the crime is left out and the focus is on her alone: her picture, the places where she grew up, facts and anecdotes about her character (despite neglect) and life before the tragedy -- to be followed by her memorial. That way, we can separate her identity from the torture she suffered and celebrate the person she was: A video that shows only the person she might have wanted us to remember.

  • i really don't think they covicts got a lot of jail time

  • an american crime good movie but really sad

  • I heard the real Likens family were pissed off about it. But I'm sure any of us would be pissed off having to go through so much grief then people make a movie about without your consent! I cried though the movie!

  • I think it would have been good to have the consent of her family, but I also think it's important for this and other incidents like it to be part of public awareness.

  • @MrFfuckUp Yes, I did hear Sylvia's family were not informed. I was sick throughout the entire movie.

  • such a sad story poor sylvia

  • How evil can someone be to inflict such pain on someone else..

  • Must gertrude be i hell right now!!!!!!

  • Horrible, just horrible. I just watched "An American Crime" and it's horrible that kids just stood by and watched, and even participated, in the torture of her. :(

  • Let's keep Sylvia likens memory alive.r.i.p Sylvia we will never forget you

  • the sick minds of people! beyond animals!

  • theres not that many pictures of sylvia she lived for 16 years and even on google i couldnt find alot what happened to this poor girl shocks me and make me ashamed in what those other kids did to her they had no right to do that

  • Very sad !! People wake up child abuse is happening.. if you hear a girl screaming for help !! Come on react imagine it's a loved one!! Help don't just pretend it's not happening!!!......

  • the neighbours did nothing? i dnt know about u but if i heard a young girls screams coming from my neighbours i wudnt stay out of it.

  • Very, very, very sad story.

It makes me so mad. It's all I can think about since I watched the movie a day ago.

  • is it still out in like movie stores?

  • Well i rented mine from Block Buster nearby.

  • Omg I never thought I'd be so glad that cancer killed someone - if you don't know, Gertrude (the devil bitch) died of lung cancer. Stupid fuck face.

I wish I could've helped her, it makes me cry that I can't do anything to comfort her. She must've felt so undescribedly awful - I just wish I could've helped her... it's seems unfair that I get a loving family and she got this Devil.

  • I wish I could've helped Sylvia*

  • i hate how she dies one day before my birthday.

rest in peace sylvia. i can not believe this...

  • I wish I could go back to 1965 and hold and comfort that poor baby. One of the biggest heartbreaks is how totally alone and unloved she must have felt. I wish she could have known how many people are still touched and saddened by the terror and unspeakable abuse she endured. I am sure she is in the arms of our Lord now. Rest in Peace Sweet Girl.

  • can someone please tell me how long she was in that house. From when her parents dropped her off to when she was killed.

  • 3 months - it is just terrible isnt it

  • So much anguish, if we could only turn back the tide of time and take her poor soul away from all of the torment she endured. It's too late and I am saddened for it. Sylvia Likens and her story will never be forgotten.

  • Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but Sylvia didn'tt die in the basement. She was placed in a bath tub, in which she died in.

  • the thing that caught my attention the most is how big a bitch paula was for lying just cuz she didnt want ayone to know she was pregnant i think american crime is closer to the real story than the girl next door

  • omg. i just watched an american crime. i wanted to turn the tv off the first time she beat her, but i couldn't. gertude, i hope u roast for eternity bitch, and i hope your death is as painful as possible. How dare u? HOW DARE U?!

  • whats the song?...R.I.P slyvia

  • the song is my immortal by evenessence.

  • Hi, this is me greenwallsrcool signed on to my other account, the name of this song is my immortal by evanesence

  • she was never raped....if you go on wikipedia and look up the court records it says that the court found that she was still a virgin at the time of her death

  • I just watched a girl next door last night then this one... im crying and speechless. How can anyone cause that much pain to someone. I hope these movies give people the motivation to go out and do extra good things for others help others and have a sense that humans beings are important and every minute of life is treasure. What a tragedy. I don't know what else to type I feel nauseous.

  • Contrary to popluar belief, although horrible things were done to her, she was NEVER raped. Ever. She was kicked in her genital area alot and abused but never raped.

  • Gertrude kicked Sylvia very, very frequently in the pubic bone (crotch). The entire area was disfigured from swelling and bruising!! Reported very deep black and blue! itzy443 - yes, she was pretty.

  • she was so pretty.

  • Question? Did Sylivia ever get raped?

  • Im going to yes, Sylvia was raped.. I may be wrong, I highly suggest googeling sylvia likens for her full story to get all of the information on her.

  • yes she was raped, and not only hat they also tortured he, they wrote "im a prostitute and im proud of it" on her stomach they also used to hit her and the worse part, they grabbed and coca cola s bottle and introduced it into her vagina, one day the bottle broke inside it, also they liked to kick her and play with her, oh yeah they putted the cigarretes in her skin ( if you know what i mean)

  • Also, I hope to God this poor girl is in heaven getting the best treatment, EVER.

  • Thank you.. so do I

  • same here its horrible to here wat happened

  • I completely agree with mafaldacrumbwitty all the way.

How could they let her out?

I believe she should've got the same treatment as Sylvia got!

    Poor girl.:(

I heard about this tragedy about a month ago, and I think about it every single day. I'll never forget this. I started being kinder after hearing this. I can't believe it..

How someone can be so cruel?

    I don't understand..

  • Wonderful tribute; heartfelt and moving. This is a testament to innocence lost but not forgotten.

    Well done, greenwallsRcool.

  • Thank you so very much for the compliment. I know the tribute would have been better if the text was more legible. but Im just satisfied and happy people are hearing about this tradgety on youtube now. thanks.

  • same here. but i guess back then times were different. people didn't want to be part of another person's problems or something. i don't know. but times were different. i guess people were too afraid to do something.

  • This entire story made me cry for a long time for Sylvia because she didn't deserve this---no "LIVING" thing does (except for Gertrude). I can't even image what must have been going through her mind while enduring all of this for up to 3 months!! I think the ultimate punishment would have been to make Gertrude and all the other violators suffer the same crime up to the burns on the skin!! Let them see how it feels to be abused. Sylvia was such as beautiful girl...what a shame! RIP Sylvia!

  • I completely agree. Thanks for your input and your regards.

  • Someone please explain to me how that inhuman monster got PAROLED, after what she did to Sylvia. It just goes to prove that there is no justice in this world.

  • Really good video, ruined by appalling spelling that there is no need for in the days of spell check!

    A very sad story.

  • Hey thank you for saying this vido I made was good. I know the spelling isnt so hot at all cause the program I used didnt have spell check.. but thanks anyways.

  • i hope sylvia marie likens goes to heaven.

r.i.p little angel you will be missed.

  • I have three thumbs down from that troll, though! Hehe!

  • I believe they were jealous of Sylvia - that is so crazy! This is how I know evil and Satan exist.

  • You spelled feces wrong.

  • I saw both films and was disturbed for days to follow.I also experienced extreme frustration wondering what the hell was keeping that"good kid"from just calling cops OVER to the damn house, not to mention that all the neighbprs chose to"get into it"instead of stopping it!Certainly not ALL of them were abused!Just evil white-kids?They were intense movies, put me in a bad mood!

  • I was a freshman in Indy at Howe High School. Some of the kids involved went to Howe and some of the kids went to a rival high school Tech. It was the first traumatic event in my life. It still makes me sick when I hear about it.I recently watched the movie An American Crime, Sylvia could only say I'm sorry when she was abused. I'm sure she was confused on what was happening to her. I am so sorry for what happened to her. If only I had known this was happening I would of told.

  • One thing I don't really understand is the neighbor kids and non family members not getting involved with any kind of effort to save her. What the hell were they thinking?
