  • It has more drive than the original, but Dusty Springfield's version is still more to listen to, especially in the bridge, where Dusty's power and control tops out. Her version convinced Aretha Franklin to record it, even though she had turned it down first. But it was too late. Springfield's version eclipsed Franklin's. They were both using the same producers at the time on Atlantic.

  • @Timestrider1 Why does everyone say Aretha was too late? Depending on who you are Aretha's version was better. I like Dusty's but Franklin to me was a tad better with Tina Turner behind both.
