I have 3 dogs and 3 cats... both are awesome and so different to be able to compare! A cat is friendly, cuddly, winey at times, scratchy unless declawed like mine lol, leave hair EVERYWHERE and you need to change the litter which sucks! ..but dogs are protective, fun, entertaining, but are like children - you cannot leave for more than 10hrs a day without supervision LOL.. so both have ups and downs..but they are all worth it in the end!! =)
How about we face the families. Felines vs. Canines. Felines would win hands down. I mean they have LIONS, TIGERS,PUMAS, PANTHERS, JAGUARS, WILD CATS AND they are more menacing then foxes and wolves or coyotes.

Cat's can actually get really loud, especially if their outdoors-y. Once there were these cats mating, and every night for a week I would just hear screams outside. I was really terrified because I was 8 or 9 at the current time and had no idea what it was.
I love both cats and dogs. Though dogs need more maintenance, cats are more self-sufficient. Hence, dogs require much more of your time. Different pets to different lifestyles. <3

Not all dogs or cats are the same, though.
For example: I think an indoor/outdoor cat would probably have a better chance of surviving on its own than an only inside cat would.
Same with dogs: A Yorkie that stays inside most of the time would have a lot less of a chance of surviving than, say, a German shepherd or a type of hunting dog that lives outside.

it depends on what type of cat you get like my cat for example he follows me every where, if i sit down he hops up on my lap, he sleeps on my bed every night, i play with him a lot; even as i am typing this he is laying on my lap, i am not joking.

Dogs are loving. Dogs are pets that you control. Cats are sly cunning things that beleive we humans are there slaves. You cant play with a cat or run around and have fun with them, nor hug with them when your cold. Dogs however, you can play with them, run with them, have fun with them and snuggle with them. Cats dont love you they love their territory, because their territorial animals. dogs are pack animals, the care about the pack alot more than the territory, so they do "love" you. cats are douches, but i still want one. :)

Cat personalities vary tremendously - just like people. Some cats are aloof, but most cats I've known are affectionate, some extremely so.
Some cats are serious, some are goofballs. And some are just weird. Just like people. (;^)
If you want a cat, check out your local cat rescues. Consider adopting an adult cat - you'll know the personality that way. (;^)

Dogs are a lot more indepedent than cats; for example, if humans weren't on Earth anymore then dogs would be independent just after 1-2 weeks without us. House hold cats would die off at a furious rate because they're too needy towards their owner.

Cats are independent: as in, they don't need that much love. They'll be happy if you pet them once and then they will leave you alone for the rest of the day.

Again, that's buncombe. Cats usually come up to you, rub against your leg, purr for a brief amount of time, and then they leave.
The reason why dogs are usually friendly is because they're very forgiving; for example, you could most likely slap a dog and then they'll come up to you later that day.
If you believe dogs are too friendly, you're an ignorant fool.

your fuckin DUMB, cats are far more intelligent than most dogs, and cats dont get attached to their owners their territory animals not pack animals. they dont care about you. they would survive perfectly fine without humans they have INSTINCTS why the fuck do you think dogs chase rabbits and small animals, and cats chase mice and birds, the instinct to hunt. your categorizing domestic animals as dependant, but you forgot their ANIMALS. animals dont need anything but basic instinct to survive.

I think domesticated dogs (at least some of them including mine) are too attached to their owners. I think they wouldn't know what to do if we all died. Some dogs are just too docile and friendly.
For cats you pretty much just have to feed them, clean their litter box (if indoor), and pet them every once and a while.
Not all dogs or cats are the same, though.
For example: I think an indoor/outdoor cat would probably have a better chance of surviving on its own than an only inside cat would.

Same with dogs: A Yorkie that stays inside most of the time would have a lot less of a chance of surviving than, say, a German shepherd or a type of hunting dog that lives outside.
It's just my opinion; just like you have yours. I really don't care if other people like dogs more than cats or cats more than dogs.
