MythBusters are COWARDS.  They won't even touch 9/11 "myths" despite overwhelming evidence. Someone got to them and threatened or warned them. So they'll test "crap" like this, and not the most significant historic moment in US history since Pearl Harbour. I am no longer a fan, and I refuse to watch their show. Heres one for them to test... Test if the mythbusters have any balls. I don't think they do. I just hope their kids and grandkids are among the most oppressed in the new world order.

No way was this going to work. Its not volts that are important, its Amps.

A cars coil pack can produce 30 000 volts but no Amps, which if youre stupid enough to take a kick, wont kill you, but a high amount of Amps will.

yep, saw that non-result coming a mile away, starter motor in a car is all about the AMPS not the volts, ever wonder why jumper cables are so thick? they are thick so that they can carry the required current which can be anywhere from 150-500 amps (bigger engine to start = more amps, so chevy V8 would probably be closer to 500, whereas honda 4cyl would be closer to 150-200 amps range

yeah i could have told you that wasn't going to work the couple milliamps coming out of a defibrillator are pretty useless when your trying to turn an engine over most car batteries can supply between 450 and 700 amps thats many thousands times more then a defibrillator.

I can't believe Grant set this test up for complete failure. What does he think the big cables on the battery are for? Certainly not for 12volts, it's to supply large amounts of current. They probably fried a relay or fuse, not the starter motor. Should have had a mechanic supervising this test.

Number one, it's high voltage but very low current. You can't increase the voltage without lowering the current if you're pulling from the same source. Energy doesn't just appear out of nowhere. Number two, a car uses DC voltage to start NOT AC, so if you wanted to at least try to charge the battery you need a full bridge rectifier and possibly a few resistors.

well duh! it fried because it's run off dc voltage not ac. they'll fry the computer and everything like that because the starter is ground to the block and the computer is grounded to the frame so yeah this should have been busted before starting the test.

Air-Tank/DC Analogy:

Volts is pressure in PSI (without which, there can be no current).

Resistance is the hose (length/diameter) = the starter motor which is not a variable for this case.

Important distinction: Amp RATING is the volume of the tank or battery in this case. This is how many amps/current the tank/battery CAN push times for how long.

Current is the flow (in Amps) resulting from the pressure divided by resistance.

A defib is a completely different animal.

More than likely the key being locked in the crank position drained the dead battery so low it couldn't be jumped. That and the jumper cables that they had hooked to the paddles looked to be awfully low gauge. A defibrillator give out a huge instant spike. A car starter needs a bit of sustained energy to work.

Well judging that it was not really properly grounded it probably fried the ECM, Because the the defibs don't have a set ground or positive paddle it prolly just put 400 through the positive terminal and negative terminal... And if you have ever crossed the terminals and tried starting with a regualr battery it fries your entire charging system, at 12 volts imagine what the said 4000 would do.

a starter motor is quite hefty on current and a defibrillator only delivers quick bursts of high voltage, depending on the polarity they probably had the defib reversed and sulphated the battery that or the motor windings broke down
