This is superb! You wouldn't happen to have recorded just a drum track, did you? I'm wanting to do a cover of this song replacing the keys with guitar tracks. I can't find just a drum/bass track for this song.
i think it sounds pretty good man, what are you using to record with man, i'm about to get an electronic kit, and i want to do some covers and lesson stuff on here, but my camcorder sounds like shit! if i record with my webcam & mic it sound great but the video sucks? yours sounds great, what are u using?
Whoever sporkit is he's obviously never played drums, they are a difficult instrument, everyone just thinks there pointless banging and crashing but it does take alot of skill, between timing, multi-tasking, speed, and learning different limb individuality it is challenging. My hypophises is youre a asshole sporkit
Every drumming video on YouTube is loaded with idiots crying about ridiculous technicalities. Trying to get in a debate about proper playing methods in a pop song is utterly useless.
Get the hint. Drumming is easy. This guy is doing a great job. Who gives a shit either way.
For an "occasional drummer" that sounded pretty damned good. I'd call you an accomplished drummer to be honest. The only part of this video I didn't think was too good was seeing your shirt. =)
sounds good.you have good feel and are solid bro.i agree, one shouldn't HAVE to play anything exact-it should be about interpretation and having fun with the song/style of playing-but the four to the floor bass drum is important in this song. it can be easy or difficult to learn.its different for everyone.you should check out some reggae music and listen to a "drop beat."it seems simple enough, but is very very difficult to learn as a rock drummer because it is the total opposite approach. :)
Hey man im a drummer too. I reckon that was a perfect performance. Dont wory about the idiot who said the bass isnt right. who gives a fuck. Play how ever you feel. Create more like u said. Keep drummer man I love your stlye. Keep drumming to billy, liberty is a great drummer.
As far as my playing goes i do not consider myself a beginner because i'm simply not. Yes of course the bass drums parts are important. I just didn't hit the bass drum when i hit the snare thats the only thing different from the record. I never said "i am improvising," and dont say i cant play the bass drum parts correctley cause i can. Ill rerecord the video and hit the bass drum on 3 if it will make you happy lol. I still know i did played the song good, way over a beginners standard.
I've seen Billy Joel Live in concert many times. and I've seen Liberty Devitto separately from billy joel. And I can tell you that on every single on of those occasions he improved. All of his improving was better than yours though. If you can't play the bass drum parts correctly because you are still a beginner, just say that, rather than saying "i am improvising," which just pisses off members of the drumming community.
I too have seen liberty and billy perform many times. I do think Liberty was a better drummer live in the late 70's. I think it was more of a style change throughout the years rather an improvement. He's still incredible though. As far as his improvement compared to mine its really not a fair comparison although it is cool being compared to liberty. He wrote most of the drum parts to all of billys songs and he's been playing drums 25 years longer than I've been alive.
the point of being a musician is to give it your own feel. If you like Liberty's playing.....WATCH HIM AND LEAVE COMMENTS FOR HIM, don't cuss and insult other people. I've been playing for 18 years, I love liberty's playing to, BUT this guy is great. Go back under your rock you baffoon!!
the song doesn't always have to played exactly the way it is on the record. What's the sense of creativity? Have you ever seen a live concert? Not even Liberty Devitto played the songs exact to the record when he toured with Billy.
Good job dude! Nice and smooth. Try and find the audio sample that Liberty did which breaks this song down (think it was called Off The Record, I have the MP3 somewhere). This is a half time and rock feel, and you're just missing out a kick in the main groove (3 not 2) Otherwise excellent, keep on drumming ;-)
Yep agreed... you got the groove and timing to a T mate... but this is a damn angry song... so really go to town on them drums. The sticks will bost before the drum head. Beleive me I've done it to the ace of spades! :-) Tip top m8
