I used to live in cheese and chutney, "Putney" which is cockney rhyming slang for Putney but you knew that :)
What worries me is not the amount of cameras you can see, it's the ones you cannot!! the hidden ones. Plus, every shop has cameras recording the inside and as you walk past outside and the big debate is, who are these people watching them? People who know you?
It's only if you're bent that you need worry about CCTV . Otherwise why would shops like Argos etc be doing a roaring trade in home CCTV cameras. The average person at home welcomes them.
George Orwell was right in 1984 - also Down & Out in Paris & London shows society hasn't changed & Animal Farm is also worth reading - Orwell predicted right - well before 1984!!
In high crime districts I do agree with it as long as someone is watching the camera, the police are nearby, and they are called the moment something is spotted on camera that is a crime. Then it can be coordinated with law enforcement to reduce crime in "bad" areas. Other than that I don't ever want one INSIDE my house where someone can watch.
@skyraider200 cameres have stopped crimes... dont you ever watch road wars on sky one.. they catch people in the progress of nicking cars and shit. plus they help put bad people away from commiting more crimes. i live in the suburbs and theres not so many cameras out here.
I think it's a good thing to have lots of cameras in town. There's no need to be paranoid, people watching the cameras are there to spot criminals, they are not perverts! They don't film into houses, as far as I know... what's with all that debate around privacy? The films are not released to public, and watchers see millions of people, they won't gave a crap about whether you're pretty or whatever. Thanks for posting, nice video!
Yes they are, you need only put in a FOI request and pay the small fee.
*watchers see millions of people, they won't gave a crap about whether you're pretty or whatever*
Human nature dictates that this is exactly what will happen, one particular *whatever* is the disproportionate amount of black people targeted by this system.
@screwtherules88 "There's no need to be paranoid, people watching the cameras are there to spot criminals"
= Why don't they concentrate on the CAUSES of crime rather than the results of crime? The CCTV cameras only catch low-level Average Joe criminals. What about the criminals in Parliament condemning us to a lifetime of debt?
They use CCTV to guide protesters through the streets like cattle. CCTV takes away a lot of power from a group who want to make an agressive demonstration
Why are all the CCTV camera's downtown London, wny not put them in area's were they are needed like the Honor Oak area then Maybe they would catch all the drug pushers and little kids in gangs and other older gang members going around distroying our neighborhood. We have wardens, but they stayed in their office while a 14yr old child was stabbed in front of a local corner store right next to their office, We all say take the council tax get rid of the Wardens, put a put Police and CCTV instead.
this blanketing of cctv cameras are designed to create paranoia amongst the population, i mean who wants to be stared at 24 hours a day. pretty unhealthy right this will eventually and inevitably crush the spirit of mankind...... PRIVACY IS UNDERRATED....

a camera has never stopped a crime . Its recorded many , unless you have one person watching each camera 24/7 its just a record for posterity !

*what's with all that debate around privacy?*
Surveillance demolishes trust.
