  • I now do Canadian Shorinjiryu Karatedo, because I was taught, trained, teach, and live in Canada, but the origins of the style are from Japan, Okinawa, China, India...! To progress with good spirit and harmony, we must always respect the history and the origins. VERY NICE VIDEO!

  • My respect for these Sensei of Shorin Ryu Karate, the true Karate.! I'm student of Mariano Montedoro, and he is student of Sensei Shoei Miyazato.

  • @alekt5 I find your statement that Shorin ryu being "the true Karate" as being very disrespectful to our brother of all Okinawa karate.

  • a complete breath of fresh air, at last real karate and real kobudo,,,,,,,

  • a wise man once said, "the last to understand are the first to criticise." this is a great video. train hard, keep an open mind.

  • Why so many dislikes? I love every bid of this video. I'm currently doing Karate Okinawa Style with 4D Sensei Ray.

  • @edgelit Because when they watch the tournament they expect a bunch of 24 year old 10th Dans wearing multi-colored gi, doing jump spinning kicks and screaming to win a 6 foot trophy. But what they don't know is the amount of years that these old masters have been training, and the ability to perform kata so late in life is a challenge to all of us to keep training, no matter what.

  • Why does all these Okinawa-karatekas have barrel shaped bodies?

  • @MariusWM LOL, they work out and use a lot of breath control in their kata. Look up Hojo undo and Kigu Undo and watch Sanchin Kata by Higaonna & Terauchi Sensei here: mhkTAp_KVOs

  • Honestly I don´t care if there are 23 or even 23 million people who dislike videos like this one. I been practicing karate for 30 years (and still many more...) and since other people doesn´t affect my practice or love for karate, who cares??? They don´t like karate?? Perfect, I love it and I am ready to practice everyday. Please, don´t waste your time getting mad about others. Let´s sweat your karategui and enjoy. Cheers

  • @fernandobodi Great point. Did you see my comment to ryukukenp74 below?

  • What is going on 23 people dislike this video, now that is a shame , This is real history , most of the hanshi are onlonger with us. Miyahira sensei passed just 3 weeks ago, It's a real shame.

thank you for this video newenglandbudo

  • @ryukuykenpo74 Thanks for your comment. I believe that a lot of the negative comments come from folks that do not practice real karate, buy tournament karate, looking for back flips and the like. Many of the older Sensei shown on this clip have passed and as you say, Miyahari Sensei just a few weeks ago. Even if you look at the preceding clip many of those demonstrators have passed, or no longer practicing due to age. As you say, its terrible that many people do not understand.

  • I really love watching time and again the Kyudokan Headmaster O'sensei Yuchoku HIGA correcting the performance of the Naihanchi-Sandan kata by the top Kyudokan Masters...

I am the Kyudokan School Representtive in the Philippines under the direct supervision of 9Dan Hanshi Oscar HIGA, World Kyudokan Technical Director..

  • I love the teacher corrections/stance tests portion of naihanchi/naifanchi/nahachi (whichever spelling of 'iron horse' your system may use) sandan at the end of this clip. As a student and a teacher I find that the most interesting to watch. No matter how perfect you think your form is, there is always an improvement to be made by a trained eye. And the testing of the stance is something not seen as often these days, which is too bad.

  • That is the late Yuchoku Higa of Kyudokan Shorinryu. Most of the teachers that he is correcting are well over 50. His son, the big rugged man is the current head of the dojo, Minoru Higa.(3rd from left)

  • Thanks a bunch :)

  • Is this video avaible somewhere,

Particular the Eiku kata from Matayoshi is very impressive and is a piece of history and like to have for study

  • thanks for posting

    excellant

it was good to see Kushanku finished the original way. IE one hand up

  • OMG! This is hilarious, Shugoro Nakayama has another video doing Kusanku Dai and EVERY MOVEMENT, I shit you not, it looks EXACTLY the SAME every time. It's pretty cool I have to admit. Check it out and you'll see what I mean.....Kusanku Dai - Shugoro Nakayama

  • it is shuguro nakazato. He is the grand master of shorinkan. He is a direct student of Chibana sensei. You laugh about him but you realy don't understand .

  • I'm laughing in amazement, honestly. I seriously have respect for him. I used the wrong choice of words last time, but I really meant that was unbelievable and still am blown away by the precision and accuracy of his moves.

  • HE is Nakazato, not Nakayama.

    Marucero

  • uh of course theyre the exact same thats what kata is

  • Uh....you missed my point. My point was that NO ONE KATA EXACTLY THE SAME EVERY TIME. There is always one thing that is changed whether it is a mistake or an improvement. From what I see from Nakazato is that he has none of these flaws, he is perfectly balanced for his physical ability. Got it?

  • the way you put it made you sound like you had no idea whatsoever what kata is. misunderstanding. BELIEVE ME i know what kata is. im a yondan in Shorin-Ryu Shorinkan, the same style Shugoro Nakazato leads.

  • You do have a point, I never was really good at explaining stuff, lol.

  • haha i can do that i take this kind of kata ima brown belt 2nd degree

  • Good for you and maybe after 60 yrs. of study you will gain some humility!

  • well played.

    ...one must remember that outside

of their original countries, a martial art

is considered a great challenge to learn.

In their original countries, it is none as a challenge. We Americans seem to lack

the honor and humility taught by these original

    master...

  • my apologies..."known as a challenge"

  • i mean this isnt that impressive it is the second bow kata i learned.

  • What you watch for is the technical differences in your application vs.the Master's is what makes it different. You may "Think" that you know the moves, but Sensei really 'knows' the kata and its combative aspects. That young one is the reason we post such Masters in this venue.

  • excellent stuff...

  • Some of the greater masters of okinawa are here. Great video.

  • nice video!!!

  • These demonstrations are very long.

  • Watch them in breaks. Many of these Masters that are no longer with us.

  • great video... i hope you can post other videos like these taken on a later year...
