  • Torture is a good discription Eric. Lee makes an 8x56R mold for this gun and I WILL be casting and handloading for this beauty.

  • So, what does Chad's family do for a living?

  • Does the Steyr M95 have any advantage compared to the Kar 98k, the SMLE or the Mosin Nagant ? It seems to me like a really odd carbine...

  • @jofoliveres2

Shorter sight radius, Shorter barrel makes for a inherently less accurate rifle. Significanly lighter and more compact that the other three rifles. Straight pull bolt makes for quicker shooting. The Steyr is much more compact and just is a handy little carbine. Much lighter than the other 3 rifles. Does not help with recoil, obvisouly.

It is odd, I have all 4 rifles and I prefer the SMLE or Kar98k. That and 8x56R is a buck a piece!

  • @Allante715 Thanks for the comments. I am only an amateur and so you probably know this better, but for what I have read it seems like the Mauser bolt was the best of the age. At least the safest and the strongest. Do you agree ?

  • @jofoliveres2

The Mauser action is regarded as one of the strongest and safest. Usually any bolt action with front locking lugs is going to be considered stronger than rear locking lugs (Enfield or Mas36). They are all pretty strong and definately safe (as long as you are using the correct cartridge).

  • @Allante715 Thanks.

  • @Allante715 I generally prefer the Kar98k action over all of the WW2 rifles... Well, bolt actions anyway. Got a love for the M1 Garand. :P

  • I'm planning on buying one of these soon....any thoughts? worth it? Any idea where I can find the ammo?

  • straigtht bolt pull?

  • "Nazi-Ammo"... omg... i guess you call your own ammo "democratic-ammo"?

  • @Gruenkreuz100 Your fucking stupid. Nazis don't even exist anymore. And your basically insult all the german people here by saying that. What if you where part german. XD

  • Comment removed

  • @Gruenkreuz100 alright alright post ww1 german production army surplus ammo =)

  • Nice compact carbine! and a straight pull back bolt too, nice rifle.

  • How would you compare the recoil to a 30-06?

  • What does chad's family does for a living?

  • you look familiar

  • I have one of these little guys. They definitely bite!

  • Do you have and update video for this rifle?

  • You're makin' me sweat just watchin' you sweat.

  • That sounds like a beast!

  • If you want to find ammo Ammunitiontogo is the place to go

  • I noticed the sling ring on the left of the stock a few inches behind the trigger...idk for sure but I wonder if this is a cavalry carbine

  • are these worth buying? if so i will buy one from j&g sales. i want to collect surplus. i already have the typical mosins, enfields, M1s etc. i can buy one for 150 shipped

  • I shot this not too long ago. And I though my Mosin was bad...

  • Great weight and balance to these guns. I would love to sporterize mine, but I can't bring my self to do it. Sights are a little funky and the safety is crap, but overall a really nice gun to shoot.

  • Keep pressing "7".

  • dosen't prvi partizan make this ammo?

  • @caseyreavis Privi Partizan makes EVERYTHING! Hell, I saw a box of 7.92x33 kurtz!

  • you can imagine how bad the soldiers using it during WW1 and WW2 felt after shooting 100+ rounds haha

  • Very nice rifle, but... ah... I'll think I'll keep looking. The Nagant still looks appealing.

  • Just bought one of these rifles in excellent condition for only $75. I am a collector of military rifles who likes to shoot what he collects. 8x56R ammo, factory loaded, can be found but it is not cheap. Prvi Partisan imports this caliber, and Hornady can be found occasionally (though I think it is repackaged Prvi Partisan based on the headstamp). En bloc clips can be found on Ebay. The carbine is short (19" barrel) and lightweight. Recoil is thus a tad stout, but not nasty - practice works OK.

  • German quality ammo! From 1938 and they still work with no hang-fires. I was shooting some Belgian 8mm made in the late '50s and about 1 in 3 went off.

  • I HAVE A BRITISH 303 and yall are wimps it not the same but near im 18 and i laugh at yall a real shooter does use exuses he hits the target lol

  • @JesusismyGod1000 "Jesus is my God"? haha get a load of you. About as useless at beng a christian as you are at making sensble comments.

  • @wks1978 i was joking and yeah im not the best christian but im trying atleast. but we are talking abou guns not God and the kick is not that bad thats all i was saying i wasnt meaning to hurt anyones feelings but thats a bad rifle where did you get it.

  • @JesusismyGod1000 Can you write an intelligible post in English?

  • I HAVE A BRITISH 303 and yall are wimps it not the same but near im 18 and i laugh at yall

  • awsome but i dont get y ppl are scared to shoot it

  • who makes a good modle of this. im goint to order 1 threw my local dealer but i got like 3 choces.

  • Today i became the proud owner of a M95 stutzen made in steyr, serial matched and in 8x50R. and one M95/30 made in budapest in 8x56R also serial matched

These rifles are so beautifull and so underrated.

  • Awesome sound !!! Austria kicks ass XD

  • How hard is it to get ammo for this thing?

  • Great video!

Just got a question. When you chamber the last round, the clip falls out of the bottom.

So that means the bottom is open, right? But doesnt it collect a lot of dirt and stuff then?

  • @OgamerNL True. This is the reason for many changes in new rifles to stripper clips.

  • great video i own two one from budapest and one from austria neat guns they have a neat sound AMERICAN AMMO CO MUST MAKE MORE AMMO. I WOULD LIKE TO FIND ONE THAT WAS CONVERTED TO 8MM

  • great video i own two one from budapest and one from austria neat guns they have a neat sound AMERICAN AMMO CO MUST MAKE MORE AMMO

  • huh? i always thought that our K31 Swiss was the only straight pull bolt action...

  • Austro-Hungarian Empire weapon.. Also used by many countries in Balkan after WW1 when A/H Empire split into several independent countries..

  • no hearing protection?

  • Chads family own a tanning salon?

  • @s14sr (Buzzer sound) wrong hes a farmer

  • @47Akguy That may have been my third guess.

  • My sister's boyfriend gave me a clip so now I feel like I need to buy the rifle haha

  • how much is the ammo worth i just got that rifle today its nice and i wanna take it to the range but how much is ammo?

  • than again seing that last few shots maybe Im wrong!!

  • it didnt look like the recoil was any worse than my mauser. am I right?

  • If its a straight pull bolt, what is stopping it from slamming back when you fire a cartrige? Its a dumb question, I know.

  • @MrJp990 The bolt had spiral grooves cut in it that cause it to rotate and lock when you push it forward, and rotate and unlock when you pull it back. That's why you see them slamming it into battery and jerking it back.

  • hahahha chad

  • So.. You guys sell pancakes? :D

  • just bought one for myself today, very nice light rifle, but because of your vid i'm scared of shooting it ;)

  • @nimrod8791 You should be! lol

  • @nimrod8791 its a real good feeling to shoot it!! try it...

  • Comment removed

  • Hay do u no anywhere they sell tht rifle?

  • That reminds me I have one of those that I bought 2 years ago. It's one of the Budapest guns. I tried some of the nazi ammo, Bulgarian, and my own handloads but I forgot how well each shot. I think I had some misfires with the Bulgarian, though.

It kicks like a mule but given that it feels as light as a .22 I wasn't surprised.

I need to shoot it some more just because.

  • That recoil reminded me of the hunting rifle a former coworker of mine used to own that had been built by some industrious Finnish gunsmith from a Steyr M95 and re-chambered in one of the "7.62x53r derivative" calibers, I think was 9.3x53r. After firing the thing there was no doubt whether or not the action could handle stout loads, certainly much better my shoulder :) Pretty accurate too as I remember it, probably the less creepy trigger had a lot to do with it.

  • i picked mine up 2 years ago without the m block for sixty bucks took a while to find the clip i have been shooting the hornady

  • Very good weapon. My great grandfather's father used this weapon through the ww1,and my greatgrandfather in the ww2 :)

  • I would not say they are very good. They were outclassed by better weapons of the day. The one featured in this video is apparently completely stock and shooting the original factory ammo with dismal results.

  • Looks like the Recoil is like an M44. Could be wrong

  • Are all these rifles like that, or only this one? How could the Austrians fight with this?

  • @00MSG becase they are completly badass.

  • If you think that stuff is bad, try the Bulgarian ammo...

  • Cool video. I have one (The Stutzen) made in 1917. I have fired the Nazi ammo and some Bulgarian ammo from 1940. Privi now makes ammo for this gun and so does Hornady. I'll save my last 80 rounds of Nazi stuff as a cool item if I ever sell this gun.

The carbine or Stutzen has a harder recoil due to firing the full power cartridge from a lighter, shorter gun.

Nice thing about the straight pull bolt is that you can load without removing the gun from your shoulder.

  • Can someone help me? My Steyr M.95 bolt is very hard to pull back. It seems harder once the trigger is pulled. Is this a common problem?

  • @mudge741 No, that is not normal, It should be harder to open when the trigger is pulled, but not too badly. It is a cock on open design, meaning you are cocking the gun and extracting the shell when pulling backward. Be sure that you are lubricating the bolt. Remember that these guns have been in storage for decades with no grease.

Do not load the gun without the clip. You can do it but the extractor can be broken by forcing it over the case rim. Loading from the clip prevents this.

  • @jshicke Thanks. I have lubed it with hoppes gun oil. Do you recommend a thicker grease? Also this gun is pretty new to my collection and I havent bought ammo for it yet, so, all of my bolt action has been without it.

  • @mudge741 A grease will stay where you put it better than oil, that said, it won't make a huge difference either. Do not load without using the clip as this can break off the extractor, a hard to find item. It will never be butter smooth so what you have may simply be "Normal"

  • why no ear protection?

  • Thats a very nice rifle. Looks like the kick is about the same as my .303, its pretty uncomfortable, so fair play for shooting it that much!

  • @MrJmak223 Actually these things kick quite a bit harder than the .303's because there's a lot less gun to absorb the recoil. Think Mosin M44 and you've got a good idea of the recoil (this one actually kicks even more than the '44, but it gives you an idea of how much of a shoulder buster this little cannon is).

  • Ditto on the ears. Even if you can't hear anymore, kids watching today will see it's the "cool" thing to do. I hope you got some VA comp for that or @ least assistance for hearing aids. The VA is really trying much harder and doing a better job these days than 20 years ago. Our heroes today deserve the best we can give them, something I never got, but wrote a heck of a lot of letters asking for in the future. God bless our troops and their advocates in the VFW, Legion, etc.

  • Hey I have an 8x50r if anyone knows were to buy ammo plz respind

  • I LOVED this video and the camera work. Someone commented on the camera work as well and posed an excellent question: What kind of camera is it? It's fantastic, whatever it is, & head and shoulders above the ones used by most people on here. Great work and a great video for a great rifle - I love it & thanks for posting!!!

  • Please - it is not "Nazi" ammunition. Heck, it wasn't even designed by the Germans. Yes, the batch we all have is 1938 German production, but it's certainly not "Nazi." Ammunition cannot have a political affiliation, let alone be a member of a political party. Would you say "Zionist 5.56" or "Salafist 7.62" etc etc? We say "7.62x39 Soviet because that was part of the name of the nation (USSR/CCCP) which designed it, not because of any political leanings the bullets, primers, or casings had.

  • kicks like a mule! the first round i shot out of it busted my lip on the rear sling ring, had no idea it kicked like that... found out the hard way...that was before I knew what youtube was letalone the forum world where someone could've warned me... for some odd reason the damn rifle keeps jumping into the group i call favorites though, mine does way better than minute of plate but it was counter-bored so i guess that's cheating cause it has a new(er) crown. mine wears a slip-on butt-pad now :)

  • ive got the same gun and same ammo, ive got the bullets in the orignal box too

  • Great video. The M95 Stützen Gewehr is one rifle I have yet to add to my WWII collection. I wonder how the recoil compares to the Russian M38 carbine. The guns are of similar weight and cartridge power. Looks like a lot of fun to shoot if you are used to high recoil rifles. I'll have to give it a try.

  • well, there goes 5 original nazi marked rounds, you could have got them for a fair price in the future!

  • So can you use 8X56 in a K98?

  • @FalconDevil12 no you cant.

  • I have had 1 out of every 20 Nazi rounds fail to fire and worse yet 10 out of 20 with the Bulgarian rounds. I live on an island so humidity may be a factor. I store my ammo carefully but ammo this old who knows where it has been. The pin is fine and fires Hornady rounds(reloadable)100% evytme. I love my Austrian canon, my shoulder hates it but it is too much fun not to shoot. If people worry about the bolt just do a quick inspection with a loop while cleaning the rifle after every session

  • how the bolt works??? that rifle is very weird...

  • 5:16 'Scheiße!' Swearing in German is the best!

  • Shot rampant lion marked 1938 8x56r, 50+ rounds of it. No misfires or anything, they made ammo better 80 years ago than they do today.

  • so, what does his family do for a living?

  • thank you for telling me the 3 is the lowest i didnt know that i was shooting mine and i was hitting so high i thought i was going to miss my dirt mound and hit a person or something XD

  • when you spend a day shooting a mosin nagant at the range in the summer, then you can complain haha

  • gosh those nazi's whernt messing around when they loaded those rounds!

  • Glad to see someone else complain about the recoil. Shot mine and hurt for 3 days. I also found mine was very inaccruate. Could hardly hit the target at 50 yds but could make nice groups with my just as old lee enfield. Still, a very interesting piece of history and well worth the low price they cost.

  • That ammo should have grouped way better than that. You have barrel issues I would say. I would let that barrel soak in some copper solvent for a couple of days and then I would slug the barrel with some buffing compound and a lead slug. It should have given you a 2-3" group at 100 yards. Even with a bad barrel they shoot pretty good.

  • Is the bolt safe? and is the Nazi Surplus ammo corrosive?

  • I cried watching this..

  • Comment removed

  • Man i'm all ways caming late to the Dinner table with your videos, That steyr got one hell of a kick, I want one LOL I like your videos keepem coming

  • Ha, they kick like mules, don't they? I have two of the carbines, and last shot mine with the same ammo, that surplus Nazi stuff. It was winter, and I was wearing a coat, which didn't help a whole lot. The first one I bought I'm quite pleased with; 3.5" group at 50 yds.

  • There's no shame in putting a recoil pad on one of those...I like the M95M ones converted to 8mm Mauser....lighter kick, more plentiful ammo.

  • I dont get it what does he do for a living?

  • love it, im looking at getting one of these, how you rate them?

  • You shoot like some uneducated moron -gay .

  • Great video mate! can you please tell me, can the M95 be loaded with out the stripper clip? for example if a scope was mounted dose the clip need to be in the rifle for the rounds to feed?

    regards Newy22au.

    Australia.

  • She kicks like a virgin

  • Can you shot in m95 mosin 7,62x54 ammo without modifying them to 8x54

  • Isteni fegyver.

  • Eu amo seus comentários, porque eles têm interessantes, menos sabe Segunda Guerra Mundial armas conflito.

  • Dia duit buíochas a ghabháil leat a phost é seo! Is breá liom WW2 gunnaí!

  • I have several steyr M95's myself and this is by far one of the best videos of the power and workings of these canons. Excellent video.

  • have you shot any of the new offerings in 8x56r ? I've seen it at Graf, but it's priceeeey. I plan to handload some one of these days, bought a couple of these from sog awhile back

  • @sonick808 Its pretty hard to come by. I've seen this collectible nazi marked ammo occasionally, but a guy at a local gun shop has 500 rounds of 1930's production ammo his willing to sell me for only $0.50 a piece!!! I'm gonna buy it all and make it last :)

  • Why is the recoil so bad?

  • Augh!!!

You can't use WW2 ammo! That's collectable ammo my friend.

  • @majorporpoise

pff that's like not drinking an aged wine because you want to show it to your kids...

ammo is supposed to be fired and enjoyed (not so much by the target though)

  • @Supertomiman Don't be so sure...I have some super rare .303 ammo dated form 1909 from Iraq, & various other rare .303 surplus from around the globe that is no longer in circulation any more. Take for instance my un-opened box of WW2 dated .30-06 armor piercing rounds.

While I understand where you're coming from, some ammo is just too rare to shoot off.

  • @majorporpoise not all WWII ammo is collectable. just a few cals/mm's are.

  • @jonesm16 And 8X56r just happens to be one of those few collectable rounds...

  • Nice videos. I had been wondering about shooting one of these for awhile. They almost overpowered that little gun with that caliber, didn't they? We found one and those things are light. It only feels to be about 6.5-7.5 pounds unloaded. Also, I loved your friend's remark when he said, "If I wanted to get beat up like that, I'd go home and see my wife." It was priceless. Keep up the good videos.

  • ★★★★★ツ

  • I hope you policed that brass..

  • thanks mate for sgharing

  • looked this up for you. orig load for the 8x50 r aust was a 224 gr slug

27.9 gr of imr 4320 should approx the mil load

The 8x56 was a 206 gr pill 45 gr of imr 3031 gives approx 2300 fps

since the rifle was originally designed to chamber the 8x50 maybe something around the original load for it will give you good results

  • Do you have any experience with the Sako 85? I'm thinking about bying one in .308.

  • I thought that's what I heard...Shooting that 8x56r, can be pretty brutal, and military ammo is always stout. I'm surprised there were not more expletives. LoL I'll be interested about the reloads you do up fo for the M95.....Peace

  • If you ever have a chance try shooting one of these rifles in it's original caliber

8x50 R Austrian. it's actually pleasant to shoot. in 8x56 they are murder at both ends :) Fun though.

  • nice ammo thats sweet

  • I saw in an old video you made your old rims did you use lead bullets or did you use another diameter other than .329 cuz i cant find that anywere and in califorinia we cant shoot magnectic stuff and i have couple hundreed rounds of that nazi stuff got it for 5 bucks a box

  • Comment removed

  • Like these little M95 carbines. The recoil is stout, but imagine shooting on horseback. These were designed for the cavalry! Good video, Eric.

  • is the bolt weak on a steyr straight pull?

  • Did you just say shit in german?

  • @CBTENGR100 why yes. yes he did. SHIZER!

  • if you would like to sale that brass let me know

  • 8x56 is a kicker... love shooting it.

  • I got a hold of a mix of Bulgarian, pre-WW2 Austrian, and the nazi marked ammo. It all kicks so I went with a slip on recoil pad in addition to the shooters vest. I have some reloads made up with some Hornady .330" diameter bullets but I haven't tested them yet.

  • No sense in having something old and not being able to enjoy it today. Nice rifle!

  • "If I wanna get beat up like that, I'd go home and see my wife!" LOL LOL LOL

  • How many dollars are those a shot?

  • Awesome video, cool rifle.

    thanks for the vid !!

  • good shooting, wonderful gun!

  • i have an m95 also, and i think the sight set up is weird too. you would think the sight in the down position would be for the closer shots. oh, the bolt can be a bitch to get back in if you take it out. ( there is a trick to it though )

  • neat vid I want one of these!

  • I thought the Steyr was a little unsafe to shoot because of the weak bolt system? So how would you say the recoil is compared to the 300 Win Mag? I could see how the recoil was rocking your whole body backwards. I never shot one but I wouldn't think the recoil would be that rough. Looks pretty bad. Take care of that shoulder.

  • @79thOVI Actually a .300 WIN MAG is the closet thing I have to this rifle in terms of recoil. Its stout!

  • @Iraqveteran8888 I got a hold of a mix of Bulgarian, pre-WW2 Austrian, and the nazi marked ammo. It all kicks so I went with a slip on recoil pad in addition to the shooters vest. I have some reloads made up with some Hornady .330" diameter bullets but I haven't tested them yet. The 95/34 kicks worse than a mod 44 Mosin carbine.

  • @79thOVI

Weak bolt system my @ss! They are very strong. Plenty strong for 8X56R at least!

  • where did you get the ammo and will it fit in a Kar98k

  • Original Nazi marked ammo are collectible, don't fire them!

  • Sweet vid...that rifle sounds like a bastard!

  • Great video, I always wanted to get one, but the ammo has scared me away. Thanks for sharing. Keep posting the videos.

  • The ball loads for this carbine are incredibly hot. Some generate upwards of 3,000 ft. lbs! That makes it more powerful than 8x57JS or .30'06. I have no idea why they felt the need to pack that much power into a round from such a small carbine.

  • I still don't get it. What does Chad's family does for a living?

  • @anthonysaurus656 They are farmers...Chad has a farmer's tan....lol

  • @anthonysaurus656 Lol guess you dont know many of us hicks...

  • I gotta get me one of these!

  • LOL...Well I am a Chiropractor, and I've shot one of these babies before, and I'll tell you what they are money makers!!! Thanks for the great vid!!!
