  • Fantastic production for a cabaret. Very sexy and well sung. Very little to do with 19th century Andalucia.

Ah yes, and very entertaining. Wonderful for people who don't know and don't care about the difference between different Hispanic cultures.

But, if this brings people to the opera, welcome!!

  • they should bring this show to nyc

  • my names carmen =D

  • Gypsy women are hot!!!!!

  • @dmillsify go to Romania or Slovakia.. you will change your mind..

  • ROH should know that Bizet's (french) music is NOT spanish at all. Almost as bad as saying Maikeilah for Meekahehlah (Micaela).

  • @Oenpilli They never say the Opera is Spanish; and the opera is set in "the sun-drenched and sultry world of 19th-century Spain", and it is full of 'Spanish heat' and 'Spanish dances', so nothing they said was wrong.

  • Just a quick note...the tenor for Don Jose in this Covent Garden production is not Marcelo Alvarez, it's Jonas Kauffman. I love both of these tenors, but their voices are completely individual from each other. Anyway, just throwing that out there. Still a wonderful production, one of my favorites.

  • :) Sensações múltiplas ..arrepiantes..por todo corpo..e por que não dizer.. na alma!!

    Wonderful! Kisses from Brasil! Adri:)

  • I'm looking at doing a selection of opera songs for my A-Level recital next year - is there any that you would recommend as a solo performance? (I'm a girl, btw :) ahh..)

  • Keep pressing the number ' 4 '

    xD

  • This is the exact version i watched as a child :D

i fell in love with it at first sight :D

  • the same stage, the same escenography, the same clothing... but now the same singers xD

I watched this on the cinema not long ago

  • This was totally AWESOME in 3D!!!! Best production of Carmen EVER

  • what's the first song called?

  • @Kimichipa Habenera

  • @Kimichipa "The Habanera"

  • It was on Ovation TV not too long ago, quite awesome :) I loved it.

  • On a side note: either it was wrong (in another site) the "muscle" point of view, or the "fat" one previously commented here...

  • whats this song?

  • Great staging.

  • The song at 0:40?

  • @FireSath Carmen - Ouverture

  • @bahramf Thanks!

  • ..if i may ask;... so if it's set in Spain.. why does she sing in french?

  • @candyXkyo bizzet wrote it in french...

  • @SannyahWu ehehehehe~ thanks i just only recently found that out after i did a little research ehehehe~ ^^;

  • @candyXkyo bizet wrote it in french...

  • @candyXkyo I think she's singing in italian...Im not sureI could be wrong, I just always thought operas were always sung in italian

  • @CubicalGirl French actually.

  • @CubicalGirl Lol operas are most certainly not an exclusively Italian thing. Opera originated in Italy but a lot of the most famous ones are also French and German

  • @CubicalGirl Some operas are sung in German but I don't think 'Carmen' is.

  • @WestAfricanKween Noo Carmen is in French, by Bizet a french composer! :)

  • @CubicalGirl = fail X.X

    c'est la langue francaise

  • This opera is soo great.. I went to see it and magnificant

  • What can I say about Carmen. It a fantastic music from Bizet

  • I went to see this with my high school about 3 years ago!!! I LOVED IT!!!!! It was ABSOLUTELY magnificent!!!!

  • God! I wanna see this carmen! love her carmen....she is the best.

  • @shimmyjung Who is she? the info doesn't say, but I'd like to see more of her stuff! She looks fantastic!

  • @meprew2: I think this carmen just walked out from its original story written by Mérimée.... The singer is Anna Caterina Antonacci.... Best ever Carmen!!!

  • this looks fantastic!! Now I REALLY wanna see it! >.<

  • Having actually seen this opera with my parents I can tell you that it is well worth going to see

  • what is the name of the song in 0:20??

  • at 0:16 im the little kid to the far right (checkin out the babe)

  • What are the names of the two pieces played in the background of this video?

  • Hey guys, does someone know the name of the film? I mean, can I watch it online? Can I get the DVD or something? :S

  • @VieraKalinichenko i dont know about a dvd , but it was featured in a cartoon called 'hey arnold', where they did a parody of it. it'll give you a laugh untill u find the real thing :) the episode is 'hey arnold, what's opera?' on youtube.

  • @parisgala lol, I didn't know that. xD Thanks for the info

  • this was excellent

  • Cómo la consigo? Con que nombre??

  • Amanda eu vou comprar o dvd no site do Royal Opera House, faz o mesmo. Já assisti dois trechos e estou extasiado.

  • ¡¡¡VIVA SEVILLA!!! ¡¡¡VIVA ANDALUCÍA!!!

    Spaniard passion... & OLÉ!!!

  • Eu gostaria de ve-lo inteiro!!

  • can you tell me the name of the 2nd song ? thank you :D

  • 2nd song was carmen or die fladurmus can't remember.

  • This makes me love the universe

  • Brava Antonacci.....Riccardo da Opera di Roma

  • it's lame.. they TALKED.. its an opera.. not a musical...

  • @mees04101993 Apart from the introductory voice-over, which I presume was for the purposes of this promotional video, where did you hear anyone speaking? I didn't, though if they had it would not have been out of place as Bizet's original version included spoken dialogue.

  • Which production of Carmen is this? Would love to have it on DVD :)

  • This is the Royal Opera House Covent Garden production.

  • I believe i saw one of these performances... was it in Melbourne??

  • Fat, pale, saloon-singer.

  • Antonacci and Kaufmann in this stunning Carmen is literally overkill! Both are incridible!!!! Bravi !

  • @lamsalgado I just found this track while looking for something else. I don't know how the info supplied by the ROH could have got it wrong - they say Marcelo Alvarez in the role of Don José, which it's clearly NOT ! How anyone could mistake Kaufmann for Alvarez I've no idea. Kaufmann is my absolute favourite tenor - what passion he conveys as Don José. Incredible !

  • @suzypuss You are absolutely right! Impossible to mistake Alvarez for Kaufmann! And yes, Kaufmann is By Far, the Top Tenor these days and for a long time to come! Wonderful singing and acting! He can do everything wonderfully. Here as DJose he shows, with Antonacci, what he is up to. Both in the Finale are real bombshells. We´ll talk more later - Friendly regards! Luiz

  • É uma delícia ouvir

  • everything OK but who is carmen?????

  • The superb Ana Caterina Antonacci! She is great!

  • Just got back from London having seen opera 'Carmen'.

Brilliant! It was a Family Performance, lots of delighted children as well.

  • It`s prelude.

  • I looked up Prelude and got a crapload of different things. Which prelude are you talking about?

  • What is the name of the song from 0:40 ?

  • los toreados

    or les toreados

  • Wo0o0w

  • Magistral!!

    Cely

  • Don José isn´t Marcelo Álvarez. It´s Jonas Kaufmann:-)

  • the history and the whole show is fantastic. They are coming to Miami this September....

  • this is going to be our theme for our marching season in band this year.

i cant wait to see wat the Drill Team gets as new uniforms. we r trying to get them as the dresses in Carmen.

  • If you like MARCELO ÁLVAREZ check now THE 30 TENORS in my playlist SUPER TENOR ARIAS ( including CLAUDIO SOTELO performing ARIA DEL CIRUJANO as a world première for YOU TUBE ) and tell me which one you prefer.

  • I saw Viktoria Vizin as Carmen at the ROH and she was absolutely smokin' (if you'll pardon the pun) She was vibrant, dynamic incredibly energetic. Her singing and acting were superb. The best Carmen I've seen and the set was so brilliantly designed one could almost feel the Spanish sun!

  • Read the Carmen tale, written by Prosper Merimee, the original author of this history, which was taken for Bizet´s opera.

  • OLE!!!

  • My favorite opera, it's a shame that the Carmen hear doesn't exactly hold up against past performances.

  • This Carmen sounds weak voiced unfortunately

  • Just love it!

  • where is this sung which royal opera house

  • Obviously, THE Royal Opera House, in London.

  • I enjoy this video. It' great how tourists can view operas in large European cities. My husband just saw one in Madrid a few days ago.

  • A rare moment of seduction and art...

  • Hermosa representacion.

Es una de mis operas favoritas.

  • How many Carmens can one sit through?

  • good. pneydavo

  • Carmen is my favorite opera - I'm going try my hand at singing the Habanera..

  • what is the music called starting at 0:40 ??

  • C'est le plus beau chanson j'ai vu. J'aime beaucoup!! OuO

  • Whats the name of the music at 40:00 plz

  • It`s the "Prelude". If you look "Carmen prelude", you`ll find it. Anyway it`s in every CD with the opera. Regards!

  • thanks

  • Hey hey, I've seen this! Great stuff and thanks for uploading it.

  • we put on carmen as a play 4 my school last year

  • what the name of the song that she's singing?

  • habanera

  • what is that song in the background?! I forgot what it was called.

  • I believe it's the Habanera

  • ah, thank you.

It's hard to find this scene on youtube...

  • i saw this one time my parents werent that amused but i was ^_^

  • what is the first song called?

I really need to know. Been looking for that song for months now.

  • Habanera ..

  • i saw carmen in aberdeen :]

  • i was in the childrens chorus of this 2008

the person who playd carmn when i was in it was called nancy herrera

  • bellissimo wonderful but agly singer

  • anyone know the name of the actress who plays Carmen?

  • my dad works ther and he did that prefomance!!!!!!!!

  • I love this preformance.

I am in the middle of a oprea lesson do the main sing.

  • truly magnifencent

  • Great performance

  • I LOVE Carmen!!!

  • what is the name of the song in 0.22

  • isnt it "carmen"?

  • Toreador.

  • no its called habanera

  • no that is not true and the kids chorus wos amazin hang on a minute that wos me !!

  • I did not say that the kids chorus was not good. It is mostly "Carmen"'s performance that was not that good.

I was there with several friends and I am not the only one that was not keen at all on Carmen's performance.

Obviously, if you were part of the act, you might be too enthusiast about it to have a realistic opinion?

  • but arent gypsy women SUPPOSED to be slightly larger and buxom? Its that femininity that the opera is about! who ever heard of a sensual skinny gypsy woman?! I'm just glad you're not the casting person!

  • You are totally right: SLIGHTLY larger. No more than that. Of course they are not supposed to look like Kate Moss, that is not what I was saying.

Did you see the production that I was referring to at the ROH in April?

I might not be the casting person, but clearly you are entitled to have an opinion as a spectator. And my opinion was shared I can assure you.

  • Jesus, they are singing and acting and dancing to a superb standard, and you are nit-picking about their weight? GET A GRIP.

  • I only meant Carmen's weight. On top of that the singing was not that good. I am a bit astonished that for people that "like" or "know about" opera, you don't seem to know that Carmen's part can't suit every kind of body.

Has the singing faultless, probably I would have been less annoyed by the whole thing.

But come on. I did not go to the ROH to listen to a CD but to listen at and to watch a performance. All sorts of details matters then. That said, everybody's acting was very good.

  • She looks fine to me.

  • You mean the singing? When I saw the show, I thought that the beginning of her singing was not good. Then It was good, but I found that she was singing in a kind of posh way. Liked her voice but did not do it for me for this specific part. Just thought it was not a good match.

  • No I meant her weight. Her singing was good, not absolutely blown-away amazing, but good. Her acting was superb though.

  • Well, we agree on 2 things. That is not that bad!

  • <3 THIS SOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!

  • <3 this opera!

  • look at 0:55 the girl at the front is my sis - lol can't say im a great fan of opera but carmen isnt bad

  • anyone know what the piece at the end of this habanera is? i've heard it many times but can't for the life of me remember it.

  • u will love it, thats all i have to say...i'll give u a clue...carmen is killed

  • Off to see it on 28th in ROH.

  • noooooooo way the one in 2008, i was in that, i was in the childrens chorus OMG OMG OMG!, DID U LIKE IT?!!

  • Today Feb 23rd, 2008 Nancy Fabiola Herrera

was a fill in for Olga Borodina at the

Metropolitan Opera House in New York City

and sang the role wonderfully as Carmen.

I had never heard her sing before and was

    impressed.

  • Is this the opera house in London? :)

  • yep

  • the best opera i have ever seen!!! i Watced in Cankarjev dom in Ljubjana it was the best! :)

  • well... comparing to this video, the one in Ljubljana was quite poor. No bright colours, minimalistic coreography, some weird grey cotton costumes, Carmen didn't look like a gipsy at all and her voice was not as strong as the other voices. The french director made it too minimalisticly french. Apart from that, the opera is superb. Does anyone know what the price of the ticket to Carmen in Royal Opera House was? :)

  • From about 12 pounds to 165 pounds
