The monarch always paid taxes on everything but his/her Civil List income. I take it you accept personal property--the right to possess property you inherit or earn. George III handed over all his personal property to the government in return for a parliamentary salary paid each year.The Civil List supports the monarch and family members, the palaces, the servants, the pensioners, charities, etc etc.That sum today is about 1/10th the value of the property GIII handed over & EII pays tases on it.
