i have been playing almost as long as he has been alive, so WTF?! i cant even get through shostakovitch's violin concerto no. 1 with out messing up, letalone try this.
@pianobach13, no this is a result of forced practice. Not everyone is Violin Prodigies. Who is this kid anyways, and from the quality of the Video and the conductor's style I'd say this was filmed in the late 80's early 90's. And who is he anyways. I've never heard of him. We usually tend to hear about those who are incomparable to that of Hilary Hahn, Augustin Hadeliche... Etc.. Etc.. Music is not forced Labor.
If you look for it, there's a 7 year old girl who can play it. It's unfair! I say an advanced high schooler play it, now him, and even a 7 yr. old! Is everyone violin prodigies or what?
About his legs: There is 2 types of players, with legs closed and as in this case, open. I have the percepcion that playing this way kind of gives the body (and the play itself), more expression. Maybe because its my style too:>)
@andyjollyproaudio I don't know the statistics on talent in China..........but if there is an overabundance of 12 year olds who can play that well in China...then I am flabbergasted.
@Elainelps0421 he's an adult and not so special any more I guess.. that's why I don't really like this kind of prodigy stuff, it's more like a circus than a musical event. I mean it is a great performence but people watch it for other reasons :)
@scarletovergods I don't know...I can't believe this talent is a dime a dozen...you make it sound like it is, though...maybe it is? I thought I knew enough about violin playing to know how rare and special and difficult it is....you think people view him as a kind of freak..or circus act? I can't imagaine that!
I am 16 years old, and I just started playing this piece about a year ago...it's quite a difficult piece and this kid does an extraordinary job. I'm getting ready to audition for a solo spot with a symphony in a couple of weeks, and I hope to sound as good as this kid...
Lockwood holds degrees from Indiana University and Yale University, where he received his Master of Music degree. He has been honored in numerous national and international competitions during his violin career and was the recipient of the Best Performance of an American Contemporary Piece Award at the 1994 General Motors/Seventeen Magazine National Concerto Competition.
I love it how he memorizes the keys; like everyone sitting behind him have stands, and he has nothing in front of his except the audience. That is amazing, grats. :)
Absolutely fabulous!! What is this person doing now? I think this must be the Illinois Young Performers Competition. This is a state wide competiiton, and the top three finalists get to play with the Chicago Symphony for the final competition. Does this competition still exist today? I really want to know what happened to this performer. His tone is so well developed. Outstanding!! I saw the tape back in 1994 with Inna Faliks and Andrew Park (second and first place) and students of del Rosario.
he plays with a ton of passion and he's leggs are very far spread apart....... but hes still amazing

@fattry2000 If the kid was forced, he wouldn't play with such powerful passion.
