you guys are a great example of responsible fishermen. kudos to you and your friends. safety always first!, tagging and releasing. i have seen too many "fisherman" treat their catch like a toy whether it be a 9 foot shark or a short flounder. i once saw a guy throwing short flounder back into the ocean like they were footballs. if i wasn't 1/3 his weight, i would've said something. they will be keepers next year!!!
This fish was released unharmed with a tag in its fin. The odds you will be attacked in Bethany are 0%. The sharks are not agressive there and you should not be afraid to swim in the water
Wow! I never knew sharks came up this far north, even in the summertime. I was expecting the crowd on the beach to be stunned by a shark on a southern DE beach but nobody seemed phased so I guess sharks must be somewhat common for this area. You learn something new every day!
Nice catch. Glad to see you handled and released it so well. You guys really know what your doing. Is that in Delaware Bay? I used to fish on the NJ side and never caught anything exciting like that.
Seems like you guys were respectful and responsible. Just be extra gentle with the nose because so many of its sensors are located there so its vital. Also the usual rules of making sure the shark isnt getting beat up on its way in or out because they can get easly injured not having bones, and supporting them in the water as water flushes out their gills and provides them oxygen again. Nice work though guys, and beautiful catch.
that was a rather large sand tiger at Bethany. I know they get big like that and even larger in warmer water, however, to pull them in over 6 ft. is really quite an accomplishment. It is rare that they will attack. Ppl would be surprised at how many are below their feet and swimming in the surf while they are wading in 2-3 ft. of water b/c the sand tigers and other larger predators chase the bait pods through the surf and the larger fish sit and wait for the tide to shift. Very nice fish....
@JLes94 yes it is. you can see the inlet from bethany. theres a group that goes to bethany at night and catches them. you can watch them. ive seen them there at night a lot though.
holy man thats crazy i go down to bethnay every year that thing is huge what did you use to catch it on and was this in the early morning..what did you guys end up doing with the sand shark --jesus
Listening to the waves made me feel that i was actually at the beach.

bringing a shark up to the beach by its tail can extremely harm its vertebra
