Someone had come up with this idea that we should try to play on the Merv Griffin show in NYC. We didn't have a formal promo package but the Producer said the next time we did Dance Party he would video tape the show and give us a copy. We sent it off Merv. They sent it back saying they weren't looking for any new talent. Sounds like a wasted effort....NOT! With the advent of home video some 15 years later, I made copies off the original & ended up with a great piece of Edicates history.
Can't believe I stumbled on this video. What rare footage - and great times! I graduated from South in 70 and remember you guys. Dave Alexander of The Emeralds also lived across the street from me. Great job!
Damn dude...thanks for sharing that revelation with us (tongue in cheek). Actually it pretty much sucks...but I think you're missing the whole point. Regards
Just to clarify the intent of my reply to your comment my friend...I didn't mean your revelation "sucked"...I meant the band pretty much sucked. But ya gotta remember, it was 1969, we were "in" or just barely "out" of high school, the studio engineers really didn't have much of a clue about mixing sound, we didn't have any horns behind us like in the Grass Roots version, I could go on and on...but the bottom line is...you're right, we weren't The Grass Roots.
a very long and complicated story. I think I have the only original archived copy of the show.

No problem, I really dig you guys! The Grass Roots and Iron Butterfly wished they were as cool as The Edicates were!

I think you guys did a GREAT cover of this, and live to boot, which is something I'm yet to see The Grass Roots do.

This doesn't have the zing that the Grass Roots version does.
