It's a good tutorial. I'd suggest for someone who has just downloaded Gimp to familiarize yourself with icons in the toolbox and how to lock them onscreen for easy access. Then you'll see that the tutorial explains everything perfectly.

@argosy2006 When you're done editing your picture, you click "File", then click "Save as". Then you can save it to "Pictures". Hope this helps!

I think you mean paste, not Copy and you do the copy visible, you chose paste into the background

Very usefull.... Ive just started using this software. Its excellent! Can u do a demo on how to get the text to arch. Its easy enough to re-shape the text by using the tabs in the menu but i am having issues trying to arch the text. Please help!!

Thank you, you made it look easy and very useful. When the pull down windows are used I can't read them, I have a request could you list the commands you used at the end? like file/open first image ; file/open 2nd image; free select tool;edit/copy visible; after outlining all the way around click on the first anchor point and press ctrl; on background image press edit/copy; scale That would be so helpful

@will83tnt Yes, there is a Mac version but it runs in X11 mode (Unix not native to OS X). If I recall correctly, when you installed OS X, there was an option for installing X11. If GIMP doesn't work when you download it, then you'll need to install X11 with your OS X installation disk and then run GIMP.
