@newman20072008 You talking about the team whose fans we're so supportive during a harsh time in his career that he wanted to leave the city by any means necessary? Truly Habs deserve regocnition for having Roy on their roster.
for me the biggest difference between Brodeur and Roy
is that Brodeur won cups on team that had alot of talent, he didnt have to "steal" games especially in playoffs..
both cups that Roy won in Montreal he won with a very average team, taking the team on his back, the 1993 cup win was prob most amazing winning 10 straight overtime playoff games...thats just insane
Brodeur is good very good but Roy was better
if i had a choice for a goalie in his prime for a game 7 in the finals i choose Roy
patrick roy....one of if not the best of all time...tons of respect...im a bruins fan and can say the only person that ever "owned" him was cam neely......congrats to patrick...he deserves it
quand Patrick a dit "je reviens a la maison" il a prouve le faite quil a a tous jamais le CH tatoue sur le coeur...
no other franchise in Hockey has the class, history or prestige of Montreal...no the Bruins, not the redwings not even the Leafs...
Montreal is the best hockey city in the world and finally back in the hands of people of Quebec...good ridence Gillet...no american should ever own the Habs
It was fitting how the players followed him off the ice, I still can't come to terms why retired early, even with alot of saves left in him, but he went out on top his own way, somthing alot of ppl in any cannot do in any other profession.
Indeed he was, but the only knock against him will be the Team Canada issue, even with a team that good, they still could have won with him on it. But he won the Canada Cup in 86 as a backup.
@wahaw2 GAA means less than people think. Roy had a GAA of plus 5 goals a game before he made the NHL. A goalie getting 25 shots a game will no doubt have a better GAA than a goalie getting 45 shots a game. I'd be interested to see what the SA% work out to...my guess is Roys is better than Belfour. Not knocking Belfour though, I love that cat too.
Thanks for uploading this... Nice memories. It was so electric during his 10 straight overtime winnings. I remember signing and celebrating during overtime... we just knew it would be another victory. It takes the hell of a legend to make you cheers before the game is over :-D !!!
I agree with K. Dryden too. Unfortunate that he decided to retire so early when he had so many more years that he could have shown he was the best. Ideally, he should have stayed on until 1984-85 to give us a few more Stanley Cups between 79 and 86 and then let Patrick take over. That would've been the greatest scenario. K. Dryden didn't stay long enough to prove himself and that's why we dont hear anything bout him when others talk about Brodeur being the "other 1". Dryden's up the rafters too.

He was too competitive to let himself fade away. He had to retire on top of his game, it's just how he was.

Also, Roy was my favourite goalie of all time, but i would still give "The greatest goalie to ever play." to Ken Dryden, but hey that's just me.
