I love horror. This is hardly a horror. And I don't scare easliy with horror movies and such. But that "V" scared the shit out of me when I was a kid and it still scares the shit out of me now. It's the fact that it's an elongated red V on a black background and the fact that the music creeps up as the "V" fades in. I don't know why I looked this up as I have to go to bed now. Geeze.
Great opening theme. It gives me the power to travel back in the 80's as a B-boy waiting for another Diana's trick. I'll never forget those years. Thanks again
Despite it's occasional corny dialogue and acting, in my opinion the original V series stands as one of the best mini series ever made. It actually took it's time to develop a story and characters. Compared to a show like Falling Skies, which just throws you into what feels like the middle of a story with characters you know nothing about and somehow expects you to care. Or the new V series, where they expect you to fill in the blanks, so to speak, with memories of the original show.
They did not build suspence in the new series. This one you did not find out the aliens' intentions until well into the series. The new V you find out right away. Bad writing.
The V on TV is so much crap. I hate how they call them "the V's". Diana is guest starring on V FYI. Not worth suffering through the new series to see her tho

I am shocked the new series was brought back to life after being cancelled. The original was 10 times better in every way. I don't even think Jane Badler or Marc Singer (who is returning in season 2) will save it. First Battlestar Galactica piece of crap, now V.

But the new V was a total cock-up. How is it even possible to make the arrival of sinister aliens on earth seem phenomenally dull? The pilot was just TERRIBLE: none of the sense of wonder turning to dread that the original V two-parter had. The revelation of the aliens' true intentions was incredibly badly-handled. Just awful.

N.B. : One has to admit -however- that after the part called "The Final Battle" , it became less entertaining...perhaps because Kenneth Johnson and a part of the original staff involved in "The mini series" and in "The Final Battle" had retired... the rest of the series still had its great moments too ...
Not only this theme used to freak me out,back in the days (I must have been 5 or 6 ...) but there were also all these moments in the series : when Donovan dreams he goes and get his son, in the motheship; when he discovers the special section(the one where there alaways a breathing that is heard...) and discovers all the disappeared people stored in cocoons, when Julie is caught and taken to be converted... well, that's just a sample... The whole series was powerful and had a deep effect on me!

Man, this brings back so much memories. V was the first Sci-fi Original tv series that appeared on tv. I was very young at the time and found the show to be very interesting. I purchase all of the dvd's to this. It is a total masterpiece. The new version could never compare to the original, from story lines, characters and music.

I was just saying to my chica when we watched the debut of the new V that they really have lost something between then & now...The new one is going to be good, I am enjoying it immensely but dies anyone remember how long the exposition took in the 1984 version? I don't think you saw lizard skin until well into the 1st season...in the new one, since everyone is used to instant gratification, the entire plot was pretty well mapped out in the 1st two episodes...

Oh how I love this music. Back in high school, I used to play it on my keyboard and even came up with a way to blend this music with the classic Klingon theme form the Star Trek movies as a kind of "Sci-Fi" medley idea. It's my favoite music from all the V broadcasts and I wish the new V series theme was more like it.
Damn, didn't show the classic opening scene. Slo-mo fade-in dream sequence as Mark and boy Shaun are running thru a corridoor as they are being chased by visitor guards.
Kenneth Johnson had himself credited as "Lillian Weezer" as co-writer of the story. He was unhappy with how The Final Battle turned out and what the new producers did to his concepts. He disowns this and the weekly series and wrote his own sequel novel V: The Second Generation, which only follows the continuity of the original mini series, set 20 years later. I think The Final Battle is ok, except for the ending, but his original was far superior.
"V: The Final Battle" was good. Not as good as the original miniseries but while it put more emphasis on action, intrigue and romance, it for the most part, ignored the social "what if" questions raised in the original. But "The FInal Battle" has its high points, the creepy title music score, good action scenes and the truly icky alien pregnancy and birth. It falls apart at the very end though with the 'Star Child" BS. Still Ham Tyler kicks some serious lizard ass!

Never liked the arrival of that "Star Child" stuff and all the rest (this was around the end,like 1985...) ...I like to say that at tah moment,it just looked like very much to some kind of a sci-fi "Dallas" or "Dynasty" ... The best was at the beginning (V mini series and V Final Battle...) however,there are still some good episodes in the regular series...

N.B. : One has to admit -however- that after the part called "The Final Battle" , it became less entertaining...perhaps because Kenneth Johnson and a part of the original staff involved in "The mini series" and in "The Final Battle" had retired... the rest of the series still had its great moments too ...

Not only this theme used to freak me out,back in the days (I must have been 5 or 6 ...) but there were also all these moments in the series : when Donovan dreams he goes and get his son, in the motheship; when he discovers the special section(the one where there alaways a breathing that is heard...) and discovers all the disappeared people stored in cocoons, when Julie is caught and taken to be converted... well, that's just a sample... The whole series was powerful and had a deep effect on me!

The best miniseries ever made by far!! The new tv show makes the same mistakes that the tv show that came after the mini series made. What made the original great is the resistance grew into a army to fight the v but on the series it seems to only follow 4 boring chacters instead of making it into a war its just a boring chess game.

The first 5 mini series of V was far more tantalising than the new series that is being aired in 2010. . .Even though acting in the 1980s was not as great as general acting in the 21st century on TV, and naturally the special effects, the acting in the new series of V, asides a few characters is appalling, although the theme of the new series is so painstakingly slow

Man, this brings back so much memories. V was the first Sci-fi Original tv series that appeared on tv. I was very young at the time and found the show to be very interesting. I purchase all of the dvd's to this. It is a total masterpiece. The new version could never compare to the original, from story lines, characters and music.

I was just saying to my chica when we watched the debut of the new V that they really have lost something between then & now...The new one is going to be good, I am enjoying it immensely but dies anyone remember how long the exposition took in the 1984 version? I don't think you saw lizard skin until well into the 1st season...in the new one, since everyone is used to instant gratification, the entire plot was pretty well mapped out in the 1st two episodes...

Oh how I love this music. Back in high school, I used to play it on my keyboard and even came up with a way to blend this music with the classic Klingon theme form the Star Trek movies as a kind of "Sci-Fi" medley idea. It's my favoite music from all the V broadcasts and I wish the new V series theme was more like it.

Kenneth Johnson had himself credited as "Lillian Weezer" as co-writer of the story. He was unhappy with how The Final Battle turned out and what the new producers did to his concepts. He disowns this and the weekly series and wrote his own sequel novel V: The Second Generation, which only follows the continuity of the original mini series, set 20 years later. I think The Final Battle is ok, except for the ending, but his original was far superior.

"V: The Final Battle" was good. Not as good as the original miniseries but while it put more emphasis on action, intrigue and romance, it for the most part, ignored the social "what if" questions raised in the original. But "The FInal Battle" has its high points, the creepy title music score, good action scenes and the truly icky alien pregnancy and birth. It falls apart at the very end though with the 'Star Child" BS. Still Ham Tyler kicks some serious lizard ass!
