    The lingering, affetuoso style, typical of a whole era of Viennese music-making, works because the singer believes in it and makes it a lovely, musical thing.

    This HMV recording would be from c. 1907?

  • John Steane criticizes Kurz' too-romantic, cozy style in this aria (yet does admire her singing of the aria from Il Re Pastore). But I agree with you on this one: lovely, heartfelt singing regardless of its lack of conformity to purist Mozartian conventions of today.
