take a class in physics and you'll change your mind. Distance to the net doesn't determine velocity of the puck. Ryaz skated towards the puck much faster than Chara so his added momentum might have added a good amount to the shot but the distance from the puck to the net isn't the issue. This is the fastest recorded slap shot I've ever seen.

Canadian NHL'ers have proven to be good when playing in North America but also proved to play like shit when they're playing outside as in Nagano and Torino in 98 and 2006 where they didn't medal at all.
