  • Here is a music video of a band that recently heavily featured the KORG Prophecy in their music video. Paste this phrase in the search box:

"Boy On The Side" music video by Official Version

  • This Guy Puts on a show with each keyboard he plays

  • LOVE the kraftwerk bit!

  • Hey, Jexus - I got my Korg Prophecy from UK band 'Pitchshifter' and it came with a memory card with some awesome samples. Now...I have ProGenie, so I can hook it up and save my own, but I'm wondering if I can also save everything on the memory card onto my PC as well as have it on the card, (just for backup purposes)?

  • @YakuzaJoe88 Yazuka, jexus never answear

  • @1982Batmobile

well, you can always try his email on the page/synth blog he has..he answered me back like 2 times or so..nice conversation..I wanted for him to shoot or prepare me a video in his unique pastiche/crazy demented visual trademark styling, but he gave me the usual "not much time at hand" answer heheheh..but at least I had the chance to correspond with one of my idols!!! hehehe

  • Wow one of the best synth demos I've seen...

  • I wish this thing was polyphonic...

  • @Newcomingmusic Z1, get it now still you can!

  • First watched this three years ago. Bought the thing a year after. Still, every time i watch it i have to admit, "WHY MY SYNTH NO SOUND LIKE THEES?" Some men are just born to edit the fuck out of synths.

  • @Docipede You gotta work for it lol

  • @Docipede Jexus is a pro, don't expect to make sounds that pro when you first buy a synthesizer man. He probably had a lot of practice on this thing before he made this video

  • @XcesMusic Haha, ta for the advice but i do have many synths and half a degree in music technology ;)

  • @Docipede I didn't mean to say that it was your first synth, I meant to say that to get sounds like this you've gotta experiment with whatever one you've got. Even if you're a pro you gotta experiment with each one of your synths.

  • I just wanted to say something to all the morons asking for patches etc. : go fuck yourself!!! if you don't know how to program a synth, then you should not be allowed to own it. and keep in mind that nobody owes you anything. so stop crying and try to use some brain... otherwise sell it for a reasonable price. to jexus: nice work, really!

  • @johnrozzo: There's no need for making your point by being so rude. Well, you have a point but the Prophecy and Z1 are really not easy to program if you want to go beyond bormal sounds, so the question ins understandable.

Maybe an answer by Jexus, like "Sorry, dudes. Learn the stuff by yourself, I just want to show off." would make this point clear, too. ;)

  • This is one of the hardest synths to program. If it was ever in doubt, you are a master. Nice work.

  • @brownerthanu It's not really that difficult. The Prophecy is pretty easy to understand, because the engine is bog standard...the interface is the only road block, & is rather cumbersome. I think Yamaha's TX81Z tops the list of most difficult to work with. I still don't understand FM properly.

  • @z0hmz Yeah good point. I agree that the theory is not that difficult, it's the clunky interface that makes it laborious to program. I'm thinking about getting one again, and using an editor for creating patches. Then I can use the excellent knobs and 'the log' for performance.

  • @brownerthanu it'll never be the sort of synth that you can have a few beers & just play around. It's still worth getting one though, as it's a trully beautiful & powerful synth. I searched on & off for 4 years before I found one, & I'm never, ever going to sell it :)

  • @brownerthanu: There's a pretty good software GUI that makes programming the Prophecy a lot easier: Progenie

An excellent editor for the Z1 is "Korg Z1 Editor" from IAX Software

  • @z0hmz: It was Yamaha's greatest commercial trick to sell their phase modulation synthesizers as FM synths. :)

Chowning's original paper on FM is a good introduction and demonstrates what a complex matter FM really is. If you don't know what Bessel functions are you won't get the full mathematics behind it but Chowning gives several basic examples how the parameters influence the spectrum of the sound. The rest is trial and error or using existing sounds as a basis for your own experiments.

  • @albedoshader: Google for the original title of Chowning's paper: "the synthesis of complex audio spectra by means of frequency modulation"

You can download it as a PDF file. It's just 9 pages long but contains all the theory that is behind FM.

  • @albedoshader reading now :)

  • spittin'! :)

  • that ribbon is genius

  • Great video!!

Even though I'm not really into digital and virtual analog synths, I must say this synth sounds pretty good! It has it's own character. Though having a distinct digital sound, it sounds way better than a nord lead (I've owned a NL2), and this video made me bid on one on ebay.

    Nice job!!

  • got a steal deal on one for $150. right place right time...:)

  • protips: use FEEDBACK in mixer section for extra BAMP, check output level in effects to make sure volume is actually up on the patch, use the UTY menu often to splice up parts from other patches into frankenpatches. if you take time to learn details of this machine its one demonic beast.

  • @elektrogeist: The feedback section makes the Prophecy such a sound monster. Like made by the devil himself. I love it.

  • Plaease do some basics tutorials on how to use this - I have one a year now & still cant make it my own as i dont understand the manuals

  • Please do some tutorials - I am a bass player & I fell in love with this when I messed with one in a music store in 1996 & I finally got one a year ago but I cant make my own sounds & the manual is soooooo dull & incomprehensible

  • zajebiste szacun

  • One of my first synths. All I have to say is Korg synths are in a class of their own!!! Moss filters were the bomb.

  • All these videos are great proof that like analogs were 15 years ago, the cheap old stuff on the pawn shop shelf is still all you need -- an artist can paint a masterwork with any brush at all.

  • Do you have a Myspace page where we could interact with you? I have questions......so many questions.

  • is hard to work on that? i would like to get a synthesizer but i don't know anything about that.

  • very nice

  • this or r3?

  • ... Really?

A Ferrari or a Honda Civic?

The R3 is a stripped Radias and has all the worthwhile features taken out, leaving the pathetic VA engine to speak for itself.

  • so?witch is better?r3?

  • .... Yes. That's exactly what I said. Calling it stripped and worthless definitely makes it seem like the better choice.

  • stupid ftw. lmao.

  • lol

  • oh this is briliant ! =D

  • Or get a Z1 - a Prophecy on LSD - if you can find one.

  • Technically the Z1 should be a better synth, but something got lost along the way. Having owned both I think the Prophecy is the real winner. Z1 is still very powerful once you understand it and how to program it. Prophecy seems more punk rock though.

  • @theoriginalmrsm: Although both use "MOSS" technology there are surprising differences between both synths. The filters are pretty different and a lot of parameters are implemented very differently. Both the Z1 and Prophecy are great pieces of hardware with their own strengths character.

  • @albedoshader: I mean ...strengths and character ;)

  • wspaniałe dźwięki - coś pięknego ♪♪♪♪

  • Czy ktoś mi może powiedzieć jakie DSP jest wykorzystywane w ostatnim motywie od 9:30? To analog czy FM a może coś innego?

  • When the Prophecy came out back then I bought it without hesitation. I still own it and love it!

  • dope

  • Prophecy jest super. Mam go tesz. Fajne demo ! ... inspiracja

  • też*

  • amazing synth

    cool video thx

  • Fucking hell, nie spodziewalem sie az taki wspanialy glos z tej maszynki.

Haha wszystkie syntezatory na jakich grasz brzmia super!

  • LOVE THE START!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • pizdato

  • ok :)

  • SUPER !!!

  • i think i am in love with this video!

  • i think i am in love with this guy!

  • i think i am in love with this synth!

  • al go with the synth as well lol

  • 0:14 - 2:00 THE BEST of ALL Sounds from him!

  • Impressive video

    you are a gifted musician

has this synth the same sounds as th z1 which is said to be the polyphonic version of the prophecy.

can the z1 read and reproduce equal sounds from the prophecy

  • Comment removed

  • can this do those pitch shifts, like the ones you can hear on oh so many HIM songs?

  • Jesteś mistrzem świata, liderem jołtubowej, syntezatorowej zgrai, UBÓSTWIAM twoje filmy!

  • this is the most amazing korg-synth

  • SYNTEZATORY's videos ROCK!!!

    SYNTEZATORY's videos ROCK!!!

    SYNTEZATORY's videos ROCK!!!

  • yes

  • indeed!

  • one of the ugliest synths but very fat and powerful sounds :)

  • Yes, toyish

  • fecking great demo dewd !!!

  • When i first saw this thing i thought it was some kind of crappy keyboard. It suprised me bigtime it was a korg with this kind of sounds.

Not as beautiful as my korg ms-20 but certainly a great synth! ;)

  • some really nice bits there ;)

    f.ex ca 2.30, 2.50 & 7.30(riff+sound).

  • Korg Prophecy is one of the greatest synths ever... Big warning though, it is very deep and can be difficult to figure out at first.

Beginners need not apply. This machine is for advanced synthesists...

  • Wow! Great demo, I must get one of those! I have a microKorg ^_^

  • c'est vraiment excellent !! bonne continuation .

  • wicked ending! jexus rulz

  • i love it, too... it gives me chills

  • Nice demo - given me a bit more incentive to use mine - thanks - I was going to sell it - now I'll give it a reprieve.

Demo wise - I'd really like to here someone demo the acoustic models with an emphasis on realism and fooling the listener into believing they're really listening to sax, trombone etc, etc ...

  • One of the greatest mono-synths ever. Really....Shit is DEEEEEEEP. It was the first synth that I ever bought and it took me almost five years to figure out. NOT a good beginner synth. It can do FM, Sync, Physical Modeling, Subtractive, and a few more types of synthesis that I'm forgeting...4 lfos that can be assigned to multiple destinations at once. Same thing for the 4 ENVs. VERY deep synth. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED for peeps who know how to program.

  • well, its a monophonic Z1. Ive seen utter magic come out of them. they sound like like MP3 quality, however, but in this case I do not care.

  • "well, its a monophonic Z1. Ive seen utter magic come out of them. they sound like like MP3 quality, however, but in this case I do not care. "

Actually, the Z1 is a polyphonic Prophecy...Also, the sound quality is PROFESSIONAL!It doesn't sound anything like an MP3..Don't know what you are hearing, man!

  • don't mind me, my hearing is so good its impractical, meaning I always am analyzing the timbres to the point where I pick stuff apart. I am also surrounded by analogs all the livelong day. While the Z1 and prophecy are cool little digital bastards, the sound engine is ancient, compromised by the technology available at the time. It's not a slight at all. It is awesome the same way a commodore 64 is awesome. you will never get realistic graphics out of it, but it still kicks much ass.

  • 99 steps on a filter, it could have 400 and you'd still hear the digital steps. this would be a great synth if it had an analogue filter. or option b, a digital filter but an analogue LFO

  • ever heard of interpolation?

  • I just bought a Korg Prophecy, not knowing very much about programming yet, this synth can be a real pain in the A** LOL! I bought it mainly for nice sLeads for house productions like the one here wich can be heard at 5.17min. Could you give some pointers on how to program sounds like these?

Or maybe upload that one patch, so I can explore the parameters? I hope you'll help me out as I need to be shown the right direction with my Prophecy.

Thank you in advance man, you rock!

  • WOW very very nice

    THX

  • That was really impressive. It made me wanna dig my prophecy back out and chuck all my virtual synths in the trash. I'm so sick of my CPU crapping out. Viva the hardware synth. I've spent every monrning this week tweaking again. Thanks for the inspiration. P.S. do you know where I can get some decent patches.

  • I just got this and the appregiator button doesn't work :(

  • You have to get the rom updated in it. Unfortunately Korg screwed up when they first built this synth but there is a fix for about $100 or cheaper if you can install the rom yourself. See your local dealer for details. I paid someone to update mine and it works perfectly now. Awesome synth

  • Do you have to do any scrolling with this synth? It reminds me a lot of a Micron except monophonic and better interface

  • "Do you have to do any scrolling with this synth? It reminds me a lot of a Micron except monophonic and better interface "

No, it's nothing like a micron. I have an Ion and I had a Proph (it was stolen) and the two are VERY different.

  • The first 2 minutes are the best

  • well done , bravo

  • Well done my polish friend.

It makes me wanna pick out my own baby from the cupboard again!

  • NICE WORK

  • hey do you know any places in UK where you can buy this korg prophecy i tride in mancehster do you know any other places

  • ebay?

  • Very, very nice work. I hope Korg gives you some work doing sound design.

    Cheers,

    Andrew (Vancouver, BC)

  • po polsku...

zajebisty instrument, Z1 jest moim faworytem...

  • I'v heard from many peeps that because this is monophonic, it's sound is limited. Im gettin 1 4 xmas because they're so versatile, and good midi controlers. any chance of sharing your patches?

  • is there any software version out there?

  • i fuking hate u too :)) i wish i never sold that real cool thing :))

  • when i saw this video i bought one a week later on ebay!!! couldnt be without this synth now as a hardware man.

  • GREAT! be in my band?

  • Amazing, I've had mine for several years and it never occurred to me to program it - thought the cool thing was the ribbon control, which you rarely use. I didn't know it could "depeche mode in a box." Anyway I just posted a demo of mine with the intent to put it up for sale: See video=RpeTH17yrzw (Some of the prior posters expressed an interest.) I'm not clear if everything in your video is internal sequence, or if some is being run by external midi?

  • i fucking hate you!!! goddamnit watching this makes me wish i never sold the damn thing lol right thats it im buying another

  • Haha lol....same here!

  • I have a Prophecy and it's wonderfull! But nobody share "patches"! Problem!!!

  • woah im looking to buy one of these of ebay, would you recommend it? and also did you have to program all these yourself? it looks complicated. reply asap thankyou!!

  • Oh wow, at 4:11, that lead sounds so awesome. It would go great for a drum & bass track. What I miss about the Prophecy was the reed model and the square wave.

  • I had a Prophecy. The thing sounded so raw, but I never got around exploiting it. I played around a bit, but the audio outs were loose from the board, so I sold it on eBay.

  • Very cool, mannnnn!!!

  • Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiice. I think i want 1 now =D

  • amazing stuff

  • hey man that really cool, you programmed all thos epatches yourself?

how diffcult is it to program in terms of menu digging?

  • Absolut Awesome! This has shown me a completely different way to use the Prophecy! I've had mine since 2004, now this has inspired me :)

  • KORG PROPHECY is the law friend, buy one years ago and I can say that this at a height(the level) of any other shynt, it performs the better thing of KORG, congratulate you. I want to see more

  • When the Filtervalue reached 99 i wished some 909 Drums... great Video

  • Made in Poland
