Watched him court side beat Rafa in Cincy on Friday. I never saw them play and didn't know what to expect. All I knew is that Marcos had never beaten him. If I'd watch this clip, I would not have been so surprised. Even though Rafa is my favorite player, Marcos earned himself a new fan that day.
cro91 - i get your point, but if you are referring to % points he wins when he comes to net, then I am not surprised - he generally only comes in to volley when his approach is so good he can't not win the point. My guess is the other 20
% is when he is not there by his own choice, or he is required to volley well. So I guess I kind of agree with myst, but I haven't looked at the technique. Of course, I could be wrong, but as a stats argument it is pretty weak by my reckoning.
baggy should have won this match, his game went off ever so slightly during that 2nd set and nadal raised his and that is all it needs to do for nadal to take control he is that good.
his game is so intensive i hope he'll still be able to play so good in 2 years... btw it is a long way to go for him to replace federer in our minds, roger is simply the most talented and ideal tennisplayer!
I dont think that to be remembered long one has to win gs. Its what you bring to the game. Mcenroe always as ousted everybody in the media not cuz he won the most grand slams but because of his charisma. Sampras will be forgotten before agassi and mcenroe, not to say that he isnt the greatest of all time, he is but to be remembered, you have to do great things and nadal has done greater things than federer. Not in count, but look at the matches he has won n in what condiftions.
federer's more like Ronaldinho.. talented, elegant and so gracefull.. both had a wonderfull seasons since 2003,2004,2005,2006,2007.. but both had a terrible 2008 season :)
Baghdatis rules. He is a true tennis sportsman. Even when he loses he tells Nadal he hopes that Nadal himself wins. What sportsmanship. ;) Go Baghdatis!!!
@Victor8939100 instead of victor, maybe should put victoria then,(I imagine that´s your name) otherwise, people are going to think you´re a male homo, just a thought..
Toi aussi, ta gueule, sale couillon!!! Yes, they're both great, but Nadal is the best, he's the world number one, he'll be remembered longer than federer!!!
yea but nadal is just starting in the new generation. if federer was at his best he would thrash nadal. and federer was number one for longer than anybody else.
well..if u came so close to getting your 14th major and would have broken a record..it has to hurt to lose..and nadal didnt face many good people anyway..he only had like..1 5-set match b4 facing federer
not in public. and he shouldnt have spoken if he thought he was going to be emotional. its disgusting to see a 14 - time champion cry like a little girl in front of the world.
The biggest thing with marcos has always been his fitness. Every tennis player knows the drills they should be doing day-in day-out. Its a matter of doing them. So far this year though, he is not doing well. First round at roland garros, and 2nd at wimbledon (?)
do you mean the umpires overule at set point federer in the australian open final two years ago? that decision was absolutly right! baghdatis ball was out!
Baghdatis is a great player. He may not be at his best now but in the australian open he was 52nd seed but he did beat Roddick,Ljubicic,Nalbandian and took a set from Roger Federer at the final.Only Federer could stop number 52 in the world Marcos Bagdhatis.
the magician is much shorter and was top ten for a while. There is a "good size to-be" (6-1 - 6-3 or so) but it does not have THAT big of an influence. AND marco is not that short. Its all about the skillz/fitness/ mentality.
one of the best matches of the year, too bad it was rafa who won, i respect him but that tournament has shown that Marcos is still in the list of great players, i hope 2008 will find him higher in the rankings
plus i don't think marcos would have been blown out by nalby in the final. it would have been a good matchup like that of ferrer, similar styles. but poor rafa got served in the final. ouch!
baghdatis woulda owned nalbandian...just like he did in AO 06'.....lol yeah if he did make it to the finale...he'd win...coming back from a 1 set deficit...
that was a fantastic match!both played very well,I was so glad that rafa was through to final even though he was crushed by Nalbandian.Vamos Rafa, good luck in Shanghai!
Bagdatis must be pretty cool. Check out his ex longtime girlfriend.
Cut Paste "Elite Model Camille Neviere" Nadal's groaning is grotesque.
He can never be great because of it. It's as faggy as Federer and the
rest of them floppy on their back when they win a a slam.

Funny how Nadal has absolutely no feel on the volleys. Nadal vollying well is like an elephant ice skating in an elegant manner. Impossible.

And his volleys haven't improved, still poor technique, poor shoulder turn
