It was really beautiful with the interior 747 of which 747-100. Nice engine too. Now almost all 747-400 installed with monitors everywhere and uncomfortable interior. I would rather go with the 747-100 or the 200th Thanks for this video. Damn nice.
These were the golden days of commerical aviation, dirty loud smoky jet liners. Now, there's nothing but oversized vacuum cleaners with no style. The planes nowadays are so cramped, not like how the L-1011's were so spacious.
Wow- imagine how many flights that BA aircraft did before being retired in the mid to late 1990s! Very nice footage - it seems such a long time ago and a lot has changed!
I couldn't make out the Pan Am 747's name - it looked briefly like Clipper Juan Trippe! I flew N747PA (Trippe) LHR-JFK in May 1984!
wow, these days you never find footage this old like this. this really nice, i must imagine how BA operated in those days, when flying was more a fun and luxurious thing. nowadays is delays, uncomfort, high cost worries, security. but those were the days, wish i was in them.
for me, the best parts about the old days were no worries about anything, eps. if you wanted to ride jumpseat in the cockpit of a true classic. pilots would let you inside the cockpit while they resume their work. those were the days, now its all tight security were you cant even get a glimpse of anything anymore
i wish i lived back then, before all of the security measures where people weren't as uptight and overprotective over their kids. family vacations meant more back then i would think.
how so? I'd prefer the more modern airliners flying today, and the comfortable seats and personal television screens over stiff necks and playing cards..
Days of inocense is what I meant. Airports were different places then, no security issues, flying was a pleasure and unrushed in those days. Flying was still an adventure as the 747 was quite new. These days flying is such a drag and so stressful, I don't care for the modern spoils of todays aircraft, back then you were happy to be on the plane, today people get stressed if the TV in the chair back doesn't work or the Pinot Grigiot runs out!. Hence, "those were the days".
Aah I know what you mean, when flying off on your holiday was as fun as your holiday itself. The days when airlines used aircraft types for publicity- something I miss.
@KillTheBlairs i know what you mean, on one flight recently, a man was stressed out so he asked for medication, when the steardiss said that they couldn't give him any he went on essentially a meltdown.. "F this and f that i know you have it"
@KillTheBlairs I think aviation is still fun today, I'm a huge aviation enthusiast so something like a delay excites me, I could just watch the planes longer. Additionally, the 747 is still quite an aircraft in my opinion.
@cheryl301197 haha, I know, its so funny how other people don't get that. In all seriousness, one of the best days of my life was when my flight from London Heathrow to Detroit with British Airways a few years ago was delayed 7 hours and I got to sit in T4 and watch departing traffic of of 27L the entire time.
@TSBA92 hahaha, me too me too, I loves delay very much. I even ever reserved a hotel room in Jakarta airport that faces the runway, I'm sitting in front of the window all days...!! And you now what? A 747 was parked in front of the window! Just about 3 metres! I'm so excited and I can't even slept or take a nap while I'm there...
how so? I'd prefer the more modern airliners flying today, and the comfortable seats and personal television screens over stiff necks and playing cards..
It's a 747-100. A -136 to be exact. Not even a -100B. Indeed, Boeing delivered -100Bs delivered with ten windows on the upper deck (Iran Air, Saudia got em).
However some operators of old school -100s added a new window panel which gave it the ten windows - including BA (also Northwest, JAL etc).
BA's -200s are easy to spot cos they are powered by Rolls Royce RB211s.
Back in the day....when they actually turned off the no smoking sign and in-flight cockpit visits! Compare this film to modern videos and just look how much Heathrow and the surrounding areas have been built up!
Awesome video, I love me some 747s! I always get a kick out of seeing that old "British" livery, something about its design just says "tacky late '70s/early 80s"!

@qwertyguy76 It was not so luxurious flying on BA in 1983, BA before rewamping itself had a bad reputation for schedules and service...
