  • It was really beautiful with the interior 747 of which 747-100. Nice engine too. Now almost all 747-400 installed with monitors everywhere and uncomfortable interior. I would rather go with the 747-100 or the 200th Thanks for this video. Damn nice.

  • amazing how back then air travel was a luxury, now its so taken for granted i still appreciate the safest and fastest transport.

  • the good old days, no hijackers, great planes 747 100-200, dc 10s, l1011,707,727 ecc good old three man cockpit, good old days

  • wow u can see the twin towers at 6:11 on the right side. Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

  • Those are some OLD PLANES!!!! GREAT TO SEE THEM AGAIN!!

  • 31R approach in use

  • great stuff. whats the name of the music?

  • Every time is see a TWA or PAN AM 747 I start to cry and thing of how those people must have felt on those doomed flights!

  • These were the golden days of commerical aviation, dirty loud smoky jet liners. Now, there's nothing but oversized vacuum cleaners with no style. The planes nowadays are so cramped, not like how the L-1011's were so spacious.

  • I WONDER IF SOME OF THE STEWARDESS ARE STILL AROUND FROM BACK THEN OR IF THEY DIED!

  • the airport is full of 747's

  • Great music, Bach Brandenburg concerto to departing BA 747

  • Wow- imagine how many flights that BA aircraft did before being retired in the mid to late 1990s! Very nice footage - it seems such a long time ago and a lot has changed!

I couldn't make out the Pan Am 747's name - it looked briefly like Clipper Juan Trippe! I flew N747PA (Trippe) LHR-JFK in May 1984!

  • @jamiewhittle you vile moronic racist.

  • Ture BA was bad then got made up to world class airline

Now willie walsh a nasty Irishman it's breaking up BA reputation and wants to make it cheap nasty and low cost

Shame they let axman like him distroy our national airline

Supprise supprise he dngry Irishman who hates the British

    Funny that don't you think

  • wow pan am and TWA those were the good old days.

  • wow it looks like they were all 747 back those days

  • The Pan Am is a 100, the BA 747-200

  • Did I notice a flying tigers 747 breifly in that video too. Those were the days classic 747 100s PAN AM the golden age of aviation.

  • i wonder if the pan am at the beginning was one of the ones that bit the dust

  • wow, these days you never find footage this old like this. this really nice, i must imagine how BA operated in those days, when flying was more a fun and luxurious thing. nowadays is delays, uncomfort, high cost worries, security. but those were the days, wish i was in them.

  • @qwertyguy76 It was not so luxurious flying on BA in 1983, BA before rewamping itself had a bad reputation for schedules and service...

  • What is the music played in this video? It's brilliant!

  • the JT9D engine is too noisy than the GE RR and not effisien

  • for me, the best parts about the old days were no worries about anything, eps. if you wanted to ride jumpseat in the cockpit of a true classic. pilots would let you inside the cockpit while they resume their work. those were the days, now its all tight security were you cant even get a glimpse of anything anymore

  • i wish i lived back then, before all of the security measures where people weren't as uptight and overprotective over their kids. family vacations meant more back then i would think.

  • why do the jt9d engines look weird compared to the modern day ones

  • Gem of a movie, never to be repeated! Those were the days, those REALLY were the days.

  • how so? I'd prefer the more modern airliners flying today, and the comfortable seats and personal television screens over stiff necks and playing cards..

  • Days of inocense is what I meant. Airports were different places then, no security issues, flying was a pleasure and unrushed in those days. Flying was still an adventure as the 747 was quite new. These days flying is such a drag and so stressful, I don't care for the modern spoils of todays aircraft, back then you were happy to be on the plane, today people get stressed if the TV in the chair back doesn't work or the Pinot Grigiot runs out!. Hence, "those were the days".

  • Aah I know what you mean, when flying off on your holiday was as fun as your holiday itself. The days when airlines used aircraft types for publicity- something I miss.

  • @KillTheBlairs i know what you mean, on one flight recently, a man was stressed out so he asked for medication, when the steardiss said that they couldn't give him any he went on essentially a meltdown.. "F this and f that i know you have it"

  • @KillTheBlairs

Aside from the numerous bombings and hijackings that had been taking place for decades?

  • @KillTheBlairs wow wel said ! I agree

  • @KillTheBlairs I think aviation is still fun today, I'm a huge aviation enthusiast so something like a delay excites me, I could just watch the planes longer. Additionally, the 747 is still quite an aircraft in my opinion.

  • @TSBA92 I know it sounds weird but thats the sames as me! I love long delays because I can just sit there and watch planes longer!

  • @cheryl301197 haha, I know, its so funny how other people don't get that. In all seriousness, one of the best days of my life was when my flight from London Heathrow to Detroit with British Airways a few years ago was delayed 7 hours and I got to sit in T4 and watch departing traffic of of 27L the entire time.

  • @TSBA92 hahaha, me too me too, I loves delay very much. I even ever reserved a hotel room in Jakarta airport that faces the runway, I'm sitting in front of the window all days...!! And you now what? A 747 was parked in front of the window! Just about 3 metres! I'm so excited and I can't even slept or take a nap while I'm there...

  • @Boeingloverzz That is pretty unbelievable

  • @KillTheBlairs and pan am was still alive!

  • It's a 747-100. A -136 to be exact. Not even a -100B. Indeed, Boeing delivered -100Bs delivered with ten windows on the upper deck (Iran Air, Saudia got em).

However some operators of old school -100s added a new window panel which gave it the ten windows - including BA (also Northwest, JAL etc).

BA's -200s are easy to spot cos they are powered by Rolls Royce RB211s.

  • ehh i dont know it looks like a 100b the b has the 10 windows too

  • Thats a 200

  • Nope its a 747-100b the b is different, it does not have the 3 circle windows on top

  • Nice video

  • Back in the day....when they actually turned off the no smoking sign and in-flight cockpit visits! Compare this film to modern videos and just look how much Heathrow and the surrounding areas have been built up!

  • WOW! Wasn't even born yet.

  • Totally agree. Makes feel at home again.

  • Awesome video, I love me some 747s! I always get a kick out of seeing that old "British" livery, something about its design just says "tacky late '70s/early 80s"!

  • Thanks for sharing such a good insight to what a BA 747-100 flight was like :) Great quality footage too! 5 stars :D

  • twa and pan am too! :D

  • Masterpiece! 5*

Got to love the music too. :)
