  • ur the best!!!!!!!!!!!! so detailed so perfect .. thank you

  • love the music...i has a 'real genus" flashback

  • haha very "alton brown" inspired video

  • If it's airtight, wouldn't the gasses get trapped and isn't that a bad thing? Aren't you supposed to let it breathe?

  • I didn't notice any problem from the gas buildup, but I did burp it about once a month because the bag was being slowly pushed up. Didn't get sick and it was quite tasty. :)

  • I don't see par2 of your video & how long do you let it sit in the glass jars before its ready to eat ?

  • Leave it sit a month at least. Then taste it periodically. Good luck!

  • good vid subbed. I'm definitely gonna try this and maybe make a vid.

  • Hey, does orange juice protect you from scurvy? I mean, orange juice has a lot of vitamin C right?

  • Yes, but make sure it's not the high-fructose corn syrup BS OJ. Get the good stuff. ;)

  • 2 questions

1:can you make sauerkraut with purple cabbage

2:where did you get those big ass clear jars those are nice

  • 1: Yes, Most veggies can be preserved this way Google Lacto Fermentation

It's been used for millenia to preserve

    2: Walmart, Kitchen Section. Cheap.

  • damn that was fast thanks for the quick reply brother!

so the purple cabbage would give you the same anti fulminating scurvy properties right ?

  • Yes, what can I say I'm prompt!

Red / Purple Cabbage actually has MORE Vitamin C.

Also, the darker the cabbage the more lactobacteria, typically.

    So...yeah, purple works. lol

  • Hey, this song is from Real Genius. LOL, how ironic when the video has dummies in the title.

  • YES! haha

Wasn't sure if anyone would get that. :)

  • Nice idea with the bag! I'm going to steal that.

  • You may not steal my bag. Get your own! lol

  • fresh homade Sauerkraut contain probiotics and vitamin C to keep away scurvy in rough times. Looks pretty easy I will give it a try looks a little bit like how Alton Brown does dill pickles on the show Good Eats come to think of it you look a little like him : ) I have found that a good pickeling container is the crock if your remove it from the crockpot and they are cheap from 2nd hand stores . Pickeling crocks go for min $30 a piece

  • Thanks Trish! That is a good idea, using crock pot crocks from thrift stores. I'm trying to do everything as simply and cheaply as I can.

Yes, lots of vitamin C in sauerkraut! They used it in seafaring days for scurvy. Also protects against fulminating scurvy - the end result of influenza.

Best of luck in your fermenting!
