They didn didnt realize how impossible it is to hold territory when the entire country is against you. Most Chinese didnt even have guns. The japs turned around and saw that after a day, all the territory that they had "taken" was already back in the hands of the Chinese. They never moved any further west since 1939. They were stalemated.

Whittman was an amazing TC. What he accomplished at Prokhovkha is IMO more impressive than Normandy. His driver deserves a lot of credit. The turret speed of the Tiger is slow and his ability to use the tracks to pivot the tank was a big factor in their success.
The turret was blown from the tank. That shows how German ammunition used PETN, and would detonate when hit. By contrast, US M-4s used TNT based HE, and would burn rather than detonate, so the crew could often escape.
Wittmann was using a tiger tank to notch up these victories , it would be like a grown man going into the school playground and knocking fuck out of the kids.

British forces??? it was a Canadian Sherman V that took his tank out. if you look at the photos of his destroyed tank there are a few sizable holes on the right hand side and none on the left hand side. the right hand side is facing toward the Canadian positions. the killing blow was under the turret from a 75mm gun at 150 yards

@axellegrand7777 No, Wittmann's Tiger I 007, was not hit by a British or Canadian tank that day. His tank was photographed by an American after the battle and the person that took the photo said just as the German's report his tank was hit by a rocket form an Aircraft.
The photographer said the top deck was hit behind the turret, and that is the only hit he saw on the tank; he said it was easy to remember because that is the only Tiger with the turret blow off.

Then over 40 years later low and behold the gunner of the tank in question is still alive and the 3 become 4 in 1997 range, yet we still have all the records form 44.
Those records show the Germans and French farmers said that Wittmann's tank was destoryed by a plane, these are the closest wittness to the battle. Then the photographer confirmed there account around 1998.

I have a feeling that Whitmann had just given up, realizing the war was lost. He was not one to cross open fields blindly, as he did the day he died. Almost all of his tactics revolved around camouflage, basically "sharpshooter tactics." Contrary to belief, the desired tank battle is one where the enemy never knows where you are shooting from, or is killed before he can react. Wittmann was known to shoot and scoot, aka he would constantly shift positions, like a sharpshooter.
It was the Canadians who killed Wittmann, it was les Fusillers de Sherbrooke who got him on August 8 1944. Wittmann was an outstanding Tank Commander.

This video is incorrect. SInce then more facts have emerged and there was no way the British could've destroyed Wittmann's tank as they were over 967 meters from Wittmann. Considering the range it was unlikely. Plus, his tank sustained damaged to the rear left portion, which is more inline with the Canadian Sherbrooke's position just 143 m from Wittmann's left flank.

His orders such as never retreat, and his habit of totally ditching battle plans and going off on whims is what doomed the Germans. The Germans were forced to defend undefendable positions through the winter, when the russians had the advantage, instead of falling back in the winter, and regrouping in the following spring with their armored divsions

They didn didnt realize how impossible it is to hold territory when the entire country is against you. Most Chinese didnt even have guns. The japs turned around and saw that after a day, all the territory that they had "taken" was already back in the hands of the Chinese. They never moved any further west since 1939. They were stalemated.

Whittman was an amazing TC. What he accomplished at Prokhovkha is IMO more impressive than Normandy. His driver deserves a lot of credit. The turret speed of the Tiger is slow and his ability to use the tracks to pivot the tank was a big factor in their success.

The turret was blown from the tank. That shows how German ammunition used PETN, and would detonate when hit. By contrast, US M-4s used TNT based HE, and would burn rather than detonate, so the crew could often escape.

British forces??? it was a Canadian Sherman V that took his tank out. if you look at the photos of his destroyed tank there are a few sizable holes on the right hand side and none on the left hand side. the right hand side is facing toward the Canadian positions. the killing blow was under the turret from a 75mm gun at 150 yards

@axellegrand7777 No, Wittmann's Tiger I 007, was not hit by a British or Canadian tank that day. His tank was photographed by an American after the battle and the person that took the photo said just as the German's report his tank was hit by a rocket form an Aircraft.
The photographer said the top deck was hit behind the turret, and that is the only hit he saw on the tank; he said it was easy to remember because that is the only Tiger with the turret blow off.

@Tellgryn THE ONE who shot wittmann said that when he hit the tank on the rear left side the turret blew up in the air but many people tought that only a typhoon(or a P-47 thunderbold) tank killer with rockets could have done such a damage to a tiger, the real fact is that the hit ignite some 88 ammos from the inside of the tank no one stand a chance and the turret blew up like 20 feet in the air

@axellegrand7777 If you know the facts in the case, first the unit in question claimed only 3 tanks destoryed that day.
Then over 40 years later low and behold the gunner of the tank in question is still alive and the 3 become 4 in 1997 range, yet we still have all the records form 44.
Those records show the Germans and French farmers said that Wittmann's tank was destoryed by a plane, these are the closest wittness to the battle. Then the photographer confirmed there account around 1998.

This was nazi doctrine. This Wittmann was a product and would have marched you into an oven given the oopportunity. The man was a beast and loved war and the thrill of it. These are the thugs that become ppolice or other authority once the fighting is over.

@reece5412 Do you have any proof of your so called "Nazi Doctrine". There was no Master Plan to exterminate Jews. This was Allied wartime propaganda that is still believed by the weak of mind. The "gas" ovens at Auschwitz and the open air pyres at Treblinka have been proven false by documentary evidence, physical proof and expert examination of the facts. The Jewish cultural references "six million dead" and "holocaust" were referenced as early as 1919 (before there were Nazi's).

The British specifically targeted residential areas using incendiary bombs to raze the wood-framed housing. The British fire bombings killed more than two million civilians, including over 500, 000 dead in Dresden (the worst atrocity of that war)(Dresden had no military or strategic value).

@telstar9 The Germans went out of their way to avoid bombing British cities during the early parts of the air war. Though there were instances of German air crews inadvertantly bombing British urban areas it was not intentional or part of German 'doctrine'. That changed once the British started intentionally targeting the residential sections of German cities. Throwing in the Condors is a red herring meant to distract from the fact that propaganda-drivel got you caught in a lie.

I think it was bomber harris who said of the carpet bombing of German cities, they have sown the wind and now are reaping the whirl wind.

I have a feeling that Whitmann had just given up, realizing the war was lost. He was not one to cross open fields blindly, as he did the day he died. Almost all of his tactics revolved around camouflage, basically "sharpshooter tactics." Contrary to belief, the desired tank battle is one where the enemy never knows where you are shooting from, or is killed before he can react. Wittmann was known to shoot and scoot, aka he would constantly shift positions, like a sharpshooter.

It was the Canadians who killed Wittmann, it was les Fusillers de Sherbrooke who got him on August 8 1944. Wittmann was an outstanding Tank Commander.

This video is incorrect. SInce then more facts have emerged and there was no way the British could've destroyed Wittmann's tank as they were over 967 meters from Wittmann. Considering the range it was unlikely. Plus, his tank sustained damaged to the rear left portion, which is more inline with the Canadian Sherbrooke's position just 143 m from Wittmann's left flank.

It's unlikely anyone will ever know which tank fired the shot that killed Wittman. While he was a household name in Germany, none of the Allies had heard of, or cared, about this junior officer at the time.
