Looked up Party Game on Wikipedia, I didn't realize it was syndicated to more than 30 Canadian channels. Awesome hilarity with no purpose whatsoever. Just right for relaxin' with the family after a busy day.
Wow, that brings back some memories. We'd huddle around our black and white Electrohome (made in Kitchener!) and chuckle at the sheer creative zaniness of it all. We got especially excited when they had Ted _____ as a guest, he was a regular guest but can't remember his last name. Does anyone know who I mean? The interactions between Billy Van and straight man Bill Walker were hilarious. Thanks for posting, do you have more?
Sorry "rtfordy", I meant to click on thumbs up to your comment because it sure takes me back too. I thought I'd look up House of Frightenstein and here I an 5 hours later watching hours of Billy Van etc.
Ya Billy Van was great on the Bizarre Show. Both Bill Walker and Dinah Christie appeared on "Forest Rangers" in 1963- Bill played wesern hero Tex Bailey and Dinah was a target shooter in The Beaver episode.
Yes. Unbelievable skills - that entire ridiculous sentence would have taken me AGES to perform, but Billy Van does it so easily (plus the guessers are good too....)
My father used to drink with Billy Van. By that I mean at bars and taverns after work and such -- not crazy drunkfests or anything! Anyway, Dad always said that Billy Van was a genuinely nice guy, always worthwhile, and always funny off the cuff, as it were.
OMG thank you for posting clips from Party Game!!! I haven't laid eyes on this show for over twenty years! I'd forgotten how darn good these guys were at guessing charades! My sisters and I used to watch this show and learned some of the gestures they used, like "First word, three syllables...first syllable...etc." for when we would play charades. I heard that they lost most of the shows when they accidentally recorded over the tapes, thinking there would never be any future interest in them.:(
God, I miss Party Game! I still recall the day Billy almost pulled off an impossible "Gag Saying": "An ideologue who adheres blindly to sophistry is inured toward
tergivisation without reason"! And he darned near did it! RIP, Mr. Van (and host Bill Walker).
My dad has fond memories of Bill Walker, who had a long and productive career in Canadian radio and television. We used to live in Bill's hometown (Oakville, ON) and, by chance, dad knew him on and off from the late 1960s until a few years before his death. Dad remembers him as a nice, well-presented fellow with a wonderful speaking voice. Sadly, he's largely forgotten now - he shouldn't be, for he was a class act, on-camera and off.
Ah, great stuff! God, I didn't realize how much we would all miss Billy Van. He left WAY too early damn it!
Of course this show was years before cable and good reception from the US to watch the big game shows. Still, they have a charm don't they? They were fun for fun sake and very little greed, eh?
Amazing! I loved this show as a kid. Billy Van Evera was a true legend both on screen and behind it. Years after he said he loved doing this show as well as "The Hillarious House of Frightenstein."
That is some hardcore charades right there.

@ramiller100 The guest's name was Ted Ziegler. And I agree that Ted & Billy together were fantastically funny!

If Billy Van didn't receive the Order of Canada then he deserves one posthumously.

What a COOL story. Thanks for sharing. :)
He sure seemed like a great guy. A guy that understood a child's sense of humour, which is hard for a lot of adults to do.
Miss him tons.
