  • Well, my mate's a Sikh and he has his head shaved, as well as his face. Not a hair in sight.

He says it doesn't matter any more.

Certainly saves a lot of messing about, and here in Madrid it certainly stops people staring.

The turbans look nice for special events but for everyday wear? What happens when you sweat? Does it affect your hearing? Etc.

And what's the original reason, anyway?

  • Gr8 veer....

    gr8 job ...thumbs up!!!

  • kapda = 'full vail'

length = depends on ur head size.

    pooni = this is it.

  • 22 g i tried but i got problems coz my jooda is big do u have any solution for it cos of jooda my ladh is not so perfect plz give me solution

  • keep it loose and low.

  • 22 u no u can tie ur hair cross like u seen some greek people do it..lol.....and then tie fifti over it.....that'll be better.

or then wear patka over it which will make fifiti. do the cheer at the centre and then u no take half of ur hair to the right side and take the rest to the left...and then roll em and then tie em at the back........tie a fifti over it.....u can also use a pin at the back and after u tie the patka over it..take it out...hope that helps.

  • i tell you he way i do...mine is big too...

I tie a very very loose knot at the centre of my head (practically centre), ganth nahi marni...bass ik vaari laapet do...tie patka on it (commando style)...now spread looselt tied hair knot around the circumfrence of your head...once done...pull the strings of patka and neatly make of knot of patka strings around your head...after that tie a fiftee over it...its done...!

  • @tinku1211

j beere tusi wadhiya pagg sikhna chaone ho te zaruru aa hai k jurha jehra hai ohh piche karo taaki pagg theek aave vaal khol k jurha piche karna and pagg geeli kro then after pagg nu darwaje de kunde naal h bando paave te seeind hamesha left te honi chahide then fold jeha kro then larh shuru kro yaad rakheo pehla larh aakh de nerho hona chahida

  • People wore turbans centuries ago because it was in the contemporary fashion, just like medieval Europeans wore tights and about 60 years ago all English and American men wore ties and jackets casually.

I don't need anything to figure out that wearing a turban and carrying a knife as a religious requirement is superstition, culturally its completely fine, Arabs wear robes, Indians wear saris, but they don't make it a requirement.

  • turban aint a culture requirement, its religious, and it has significant respect for the religion, a sari and robes are just fashion/cultural wear

  • You simply stated what I said.

It being a religious requirement is insane.

  • nothing is insane about being a religious item, its an identity every religion prides itself on its identity, Sikhism has many prides and one of them is to have a unique identity and to stand out.

  • And exactly how many Sikhs are now refusing to follow that "pride." The Sikh leaders themselves are acknowledging now that close to 50% of Sikhs don't follow these turban not "not haircut policy" anymore.

Religion distorts thinking, you just proved it. Even young Sikhs are acknowledging that.

  • thanks for your views mr. atheist. enjoy your life, let others do their thing.

  • so if you dont want to follow something for whatever reason means it is wrong?....rather than you not having the required skills to do it.

    Stop preaching.......

  • "if you dont want to follow something for whatever reason means it is wrong?"

Of course not, but making it a religious requirement is pretty lame. I ask people 1 question, but they never answer it and rather yell at my comment. Answer this if you are truly genuine:

No haircut policy for men or women, then what should those women do who unfortunately start growing hair on their face and chins, what should they do if they are Sikh?

I said in my comment that sari is not a religious requirement.

  • @romansionis

What do you really now stupid man ? You live in USA and you talk ? Plz read about how great is sikhism and then talk . I live in Europe and I can say that now a lot of sikh youngsters who were haircut are now wearing turban.

  • superstition?

we have hair and we want to cover it with a turban....why do u have a problem with it?

for your information saari is not religious........have a gud day.

  • @romansionis

You really have no knowledge about the Sikh religion itself. The Turban isn't some fashion, nor is it a superstition, it's a crown to us. Given by Guru Gobind Singh ji, it keeps your hair clean. Not only that, it's a command given by the father of Sikhism, Guru Gobind Singh ji, we can't question that. A turban gives Sikhs a sense of identity.

  • @romansionis

Let me give you brief history lesson: At that time, a Mughal aristocrat or a Hindu Rajput could be distinguished by his turban. The Hindu Rajputs were the only Hindus allowed to wear ornate turbans, carry weapons and have their mustache and beard. Also at this time, only the Rajputs could have Singh (“lion”) or Kaur (“princess”) as their second name. Even the Gurus did not have Singh as part of their name, until the Tenth Guru.

  • @romansionis Guru Gobind Singh decided to turn the tables on the ruling aristocracy by commanding every Sikh to carry a sword, take up the name Singh or Kaur, and have kesh (hair) and turban displayed boldly, without any fear. This effectively made his followers see themselves on a par with the Mughal rulers.

  • I dont understand how the pooni was done. It seems like he tied some section of the turban to the door. I cannt figure out which part he tied. I never seena pooni done like this before. I dont know whether the pooni makes a difference to the outcome.

  • use your brain. find something in your home to tie one end around something and ask someone to hold the opposite end. watch the video againa and again.

the turban is rectangular in shape. so it has 4 corners namely 1,2,3,4

tie no. 1 to something and ask someone to hold no. 3 this way pooni is done.

  • USE YOUR BRAIN ?? Veer Be Little Gentle Here.. Pyaar Naal Jawaab Dena Chahida hai. GOOD PAGG GOOD COMMENTRY

  • video is good and clear.

I think i can get the hang of the technique for tying it. BUT i dont understand the pooni part. I've never seen a pooni done like this before. Im not sure how he attached one part of the pag to a door knob! I cant figure it out. what if you dont have a door knob? whats the substitute?

  • 22 G ,bahut meharbani, i was looking for dis type of turban tying video for such a long tym.

    But i have a ques:

1.Wich type of fabric is used to tie turban in dis video.

2.Wht is the lenght of the turban.

    Thank you very much..

  • thx bruh. i felt same when i first got hold on this cd last year. then i thought why not put it up on youtube which is pretty much popuar these days.

honestly, i dont have any idea about cloth length/type used in this video. but if u ask me start with 7.5m(sewed) 'full-vail'. u can make adjustments to length later. most important part is practice. pick up any old turban and 1-2-thru :)

  • Bai ji,I have the same question.

If any one is associated with Sardarian Youth club,Barnala then please kindly give info about the fabric and length of the turban in the video.

    Thanks

  • i dont have any relative in barnala region.

  • I'm not a Sikh or Indian for that matter. But I gotta give it to you guys for dedicating your daily time to this process of putting on a turban. I thought it was more of a smash and grab job, but this looks complicated.

i think its not difficult to grasp rather its difficult to apply!! lol nevermind and u r welcome always.

  • HAMPYSIS

In Part I , I could see one end of the Pooni and the other end is not shown which you say left side to start. actually ends 1,2,3 & 4 are there and you tie No: 1 end and start doing the poni of No: 2 by Wrapping. But the End No: 3 diagonally opposite to End 2 is opposit which has also to be wrapped in similar way by holding End No: 4. Then Single side does no remain at one end but become cross. How to do it. Please put this Video of Pooni on the Web seperately. Can anyone help?

  • end no. 1 is diagonaaly opposite to no. 3

and, end no. 2 is diagonally opposite to end no. 4

because we named the ends in clockwise or u can say anti-clockwise order.

  • very nice pagg i tryin to learn how to tie it myself but just cant get it to be "pointy" everything else seems good but it not sharp enough. please just tell me how to do it. thanks

  • i cant teach u man. it needs practice. it seems like piece of cake but ITS NOT. keep practicing for atleast a month!!

  • paji bahut vadiya.keep it up

  • Bahut wadia veer ji. Thanx. :)

  • Bhaji, please show the entire pooni in the beginning?

  • pooni part was short and i've already showed the complete. watch it carefully again and again, and u'll understand like i did. best of luck.

  • thanks bruh i think ima try this out for the nagarkirtan thats coming up :P thanks i think i've learned something new.any advice for a begginer?

  • craze, focus, practice, practice, practice, and patience!! best of luck bruh :D

  • bhajii pagg kini wadhi hove ??? kine meter te double hove k kidaa

  • bhaji it depends on the size of ur head. no doubt it has to be double for this style. i recommend start with 7.5m total and after some practice u will know, where ur last larh ends so u can cut that to perfection and measure the full length so that next time u dont have to do all the math.

and, remember its all about practice, just pick up any old turban and start tying rabb da naa leke. u'll start to know everything slowly buy surely. best wishes.

  • hello sir,

may I ask about why some Sikhs wear a turban, but trim their beards...is this allowed?

also there are many Sikhs who cut hair and don't wear a turban! From what I read, these people according to the Sikh websites I visited say they r not considered Sikhs or are only half Sikh?

My understanding is u r only considered a true Sikh if u don't cut your hair, no smoking or drugs.

Would appreciate your opinion, thank you.

  • hello gentleman. nice to meet u.

sikhism says that dont alter the image the God has given u. so this means someone with haircut is not sikh. no offence. but u know ppl's way of thinking has changed and its not the same thinking as it used to be 400-500 years back when the religion was formed.

    answers:

    1. trimming any kind of body hair is not allowed.

    2. there is no such term like half-sikh. either one is sikh or he/she is not.

    3. and u r right. no drug, alcohol, beer, smoking, caffeine etc.

  • Thank u for replying.

Just one last q's if I may!

U know Sikh youths and other Sikhs who practice EVERYTHING in Sikhism, live the life of a Sikh, but they cut their hair, trim their body hairs...are they still considered a Sikh?

Or is this because they r still young and they r still learning to become a Sikh...after all Sikh means learner...right?

When the youth grow up, thats when they become a Sikh and learn that they shouldn't cut hair, etc.

    Thank you.

  • we believe in deed circle and reincarnation thing. it takes a lot of good deeds to born in sikh family and it takes even several times more good deeds to born in sikh family and following the path of Guru's. if some is not following sikhism properly even after takin birth in sikh family is just bad deeds.

how to change bad deeds to good?

following sikhism, helping poor/children/disabled/armless, speaking/following truth(PATH OF GURUS), wishless service, meditating the True Lord, etc etc etc.

  • bahut vadhia veer ji...........if u go 4 ma opinion, its the best tutorial 4 turban i hve ever seen........thnx a lot ji....m gonna try this one for sure.......Maharaaj Ji tuhanu charhdi kalaa bakhshish karn...
