@so6p In Japanese the word "hige" means both beard and mustache. So Shiro(meaning white)hige, which is what they call him is technically both whitebeard and whitemustache. Same goes for blackbeard as they call him Kuro(meaning black)hige or translated blackbeard.

My theory on this:

D. comes from Demigod, which is what the people from Raftel, the island of the Great Kingdom in the void century were having in their names. They were the descendants of a great demigod which was once on Earth.

Now something I came up with: The Gomu Gomu fruit gives the power which tries to replicate the Demigod's haki: strong shining aura which can interract with objects, by lifting, destroying and other things.

I believe the World Government knows perfectly what One Piece is and where it "is". So it cannot be Pluton or something like that. One Piece must be something that the World Government can't destroy and therefore needs to hide and is surely related to the void century.

It might just be the truth about the void century, it might be that Raftel is the city of the people who were destroyed by the World Government and some important truths lie in it.

(That's his approach: he does something bold, then hides behind someone, like WB & the World Government - until he gets himself ready to move on.)
