If you listen to James' voice here and then the more recent albums, you can tell his voice has taken a beating and I don't like where he went with his style, and the entire direction the band took, but I can see why they wanted to do that. Its just they left me , which at the time was their core audience...Chalk it up to change and new blood I suppose. But they will always have a special place in my heart for sure...doubt anything can top IAW cd.

Dream Theater isn't the same to me anymore. I know everybody has their opinions, but when I first fell in love with the bad back in the early 90's, I think they were at about the peak of their charm and appeal for me. That album (IAW) had it all, a great sound, a great blend of the entire band performing in perfection every way possible. I think every song on there was a masterpiece. Then Metropolis II Scenes album...likewise was excellent, but all after that really went downhill, in my opinion.

Portnoy was such a badass back in the day.... Hell, all of them were, but Portnoy is the only one who fell out of badassery status for me. He has his own right to leave Dream Theater, but ever since, he's been making huge public announcements about how badly all the fans' comments are hurting him... He een tried to rejoin Dream Theater, and made another huge announcement on how he did it and is sad because the lawyer said no.

It's a shame how people fall from glory.
