Saw Wes live in London in 1965, i was only a kid but..to this day NOBODY comes near to him in terms of feel, tone and imagination. Nobody is as nice & humble a person as him either.
He had no ego whatsoever. Thank you for this wonderful tune.
@MrThatwentwell It doesn't necessarily follow that being egoless means you hate yourself..rather one is neutral. Being driven by ego causes one to PRESUME. I think maybe you don't really know what the ego is. Perhaps what i meant was he didn't have an INFLATED ego..like some on here.
@taildragger53 Ofcourse, you should say the person next to you is much better. But think again, if you whant to be a great artist, you need a big 'ego', because only then you can develop a creative mind!!
@kwast22 Well, that's a matter of opinion. Certainly, today, big egos are in since we have the era of "attitude' but many creative artists, past & present manage to get by with tiny portions.
The ones with the biggest egos are usually the least talented.
@kwast22 I do not think that it is a matter of ego. I believe that it is more a matter of character and a reflection of self, as well as, understanding and connecting with the 'knowledge of music,' whether that be by ear, theory or just by practicing for 8 hours a day and knowing how to use that knowledge. But taildragger53 is right, its a matter of personal opinion.
Hello Praguedive: Thanks a lot for sharing these testimonies of the best music like Wes's. Maybe you knew Wilis Conover in the 60's and 70's. He was the "official" jazz DJ. He was widely known in Europe. It was Wilis who made me to be aware of Wes greatness, through the VOA Jazz Hour, a SW radio emission aimed to Europe. Have you any of these audio programs? Unfortunately the VOA denied to publish them. Thanks again.
@Praguedive : I found a reference in a VOA reprise two years ago. I copied it and included in the CD for an issue of a magazine which I published. I think I'm going to upload it. I'll give advise to you. In the meanwhile I'll be enjoying your gifts. They are excellent.
What soulful playing ...

This recording was done in 1965 on the album, "Movin' Wes", NOT 1964.

From "Movin Wes". To me...Wes's guitar never sounded better..then on this album...it was like the air becomes electric or charged.

@taildragger53 if he had no ego, then he would hate himself. everyone has ego, its a part of the human.

@taildragger53 ya, everyone has an ego.

@MrThatwentwell
Yes, i think that's been established many years ago.
BUT what you've said about it incorrect . Quite the opposite infact.
An inflated ego has driven many people to suicide so how can NOT having one cause you to hate yourself?
Get your facts right before you comment

@MrThatwentwell Ha ha!! Is that the best you can do when presented with the FACTS? (which i have a right to)
Ah, but it was OK for YOU to be a smart ass for trying to present a statement like " If one has no ego then you'd hate yourself" .
Go read any statements from the Jazz greats like John Coltrane when he says "The ego has to be pushed aside for one to play from the heart".

Great version, but Wes' version for this tune on Full House Live album is even better IMO. The solo is among Wes' best solos. Thanks for posting.
